  1. Alright, thanks a lot for the quick reply! OK, yes I thought so, just wanted to make sure. I've actually used the same power adapter for my Macbook in the US and EU without issue, it did not even occur to me that it might NOT work . Thanks a lot!
  2. Hello all, My wife just bought a new laptop in the US (Framework laptop), since it is not available in Belgium. The laptop obviously came with a US power cord, but they sell this laptop in the EU market as well (just not Belgium). Can we just swap out the cord on the adapter to a EU power cord? It is just a pretty standard looking three pronged power cord that goes into the adapter (see picture attached). The adapter says 100V-240V - 50-60Hz on it. So I assume that is compatible with the EU power grid? I was looking to buy this cord: https://business.alternate.be/goobay/Stroomkabel-Notebook/html/product/1177934 I assume all these cords are interchangeable, or is there anything else to look out for? Finally, can you swap USB-C chargers between laptops? Can we also use a Macbook USB-C charger on a Framework laptop powered via USB-C? Thanks a lot!
  3. I mean, I professionally do CAD / 3D modelling and rendering work for architecture, with file sizes that are over 700 GB. But the actual memory usage of those applications is never more than 20GB. I would be curious to know which types of applications actually use that much RAM / VRAM regularly. Apple claims they tested this using "OctaneRender 2022.1". Which seems to be a rendering engine akin to Vray. I guess if you are producing SUUUUPER complex animations or renders for an actual big budget movie or something? But I feel like at that point, you are getting to a use case where it is unlikely that people do this on a laptop? They use dedicated renderfarms, or at the very least a super tricked out workstation, for that kind of stuff. Is there anyone on here who has actually done this type of work on a laptop and could use this amount of RAM/VRAM? Genuinely curious.
  4. I thought the same thing, untill I realised that it is "unified" memory. Meaning it also serves as VRAM. That is pretty darn cool, and 96 GB of VRAM would enable certain scenario's that would be very difficult to do on even a very powerful dedicated laptop GPU. Nvidia mobile GPU's seem to max out at 16GB. Not sure how the M2's GPU compares in terms of speed otherwise to like an Nvidia professional grade laptop GPU though?
  5. Mine is the Core i9 beefed up model with the Vega 20 graphics, but honestly that shouldn't matter. On battery, in low power states the i9 shouldn't significantly use more than an i7. And it should use the iGPU on the CPU unless doing something graphically intensive. Yes I'd be interested to see which brightness level Apple tests their claims at. I tend to run on the higher brightness mostly.
  6. I wouldn't really know if my Macbook reaches the claimed battery life, because I probably never use it in the exact scenario that Apple tests these claims in. (certain brightness, perhaps bluetooth turned off, etc.?) But it feels like my 2019 15 inch Macbook Pro never made the claimed 10 hours, even when it was brand new. Feels more like 6 hours-ish. But this is an Intel CPU. Perhaps the battery life has gotten way better with the M1 and M2 chips though. But I came from a Dell Studio laptop, and there are numerous other reasons I would never go back to a Windows laptop now.
  7. Good forum. Its actually one of the nicest, least toxic places I visit on the internet. I feel like even when people disagree the arguments are mostly respectful. And people are very helpful. Cheers!
  8. You are correct, my bad. Still though, his PSU should be totally fine. The components mentioned are way below the power output of the PSU.
  9. PCpartpicker shows the total power consumption of your CPU + MOBO + the 2070 for a full system with SSD and HDD at 364 Watts. So your 600Watt should be plenty. Silverstone is a decent brand, so I doubt you will have any issues. You can always try. The worst that can happen is that the PSU will not deliver enough power, and the system would shut down / crash under load. You can always upgrade your PSU after the fact. Good luck!
  10. But how can you be a vulture capitalist if you OVERpaid for the company? And AFAIK a software company like Twitter doesn't have a lot of real assets to sell off like other business might (factories, machines, land, materials, etc. etc.).
  11. Hello all, Simple question. Do GPU's generally get discounted on black Friday? Or is it one of those product categories that never really gets a discount? Seeing as the RTX 30 series and RX 6000 series pricedrops have kind of stagnated... do you expect the lowest available price for let's say a RX 6700 XT be lower around black Friday then it is now? I know a lot of retailers raise the price right before black Friday to be able to say it is "discounted". That doesn't count. I'm also not interested in like a "discounted" 1050Ti or GT 1030. Thanks!
  12. Exactly. Actually up until this year, I felt no need to upgrade. Even at 1440p the 980Ti could handle anything I threw at it. But recently I encountered a few newer games where I have to turn down the settings to get to 60fps. But seeing as prices are pretty high, I feel like I want at least 2x performance to make spending the money worth it.
  13. Thanks buddy. Good info. Huh, I didn't even know the xx50XT cards existed. Thanks! I figure it will be a while before AMD comes out with anything like a 7700XT, so its not a bad time to buy. Might wait until black friday time to see if any more drops occur.
  14. Thanks for the good info. Yeah it looks like the RX6700 XT is the best bang for the buck in my area right now at 460 EUR. The 3060Ti is 480 EUR but slower! The 3070 is way more expensive at 600, although a bit faster I think. The RX6700XT is also just 15% slower than the RX6800, so I guess it is still better value. Yeah the RX6800XT seems like a pretty good card, but that pushes me into 650+ territory, and that is more than I am willing to spend I think.
  15. In my country these are 460 eur for the cheapest. Unless you are talking about used, which is not the route I want to go. Is it a better deal at 460 than the RX 6800 at 575?
  16. Hello all, I am looking to upgrade my aging GTX 980ti, but not in any particular hurry. I want at least 2x performance at 1440p to make it worth spending the money. I am thinking around now would be a good time to upgrade, as the newer cards are coming out and older cards are dropping in price. I have owned both AMD and Nvidia GPU's over the years, and don't really have a specific preference either way. People say AMD has bad drivers, but I've never really had any issues. - I was considering the RTX 3070 for a while, at around 600 EUR currently. Would love to see it drop further, but the price has been stagnant at 600 EUR for months now, and with Nvidia not launching a 4070 anytime soon, it will probably stay there. Only 8GB of VRAM is a major downside IMO. - My eye now falls onto the RX 6800, which has kept falling in price, and is now around 575 EUR. This seems a compelling price to me. It is significantly faster than the RTX 3070, and it should be around 2.5x the speed of my 980Ti at 1440p. Don't really care about ray tracing. Double the VRAM of 3070 at 16GB. - I could also get a used RTX 3070 or 2080Ti for around 400 EUR. Both should perform similarly. But for that money, I am not sure if I want to take a gamble on a used card, possibly used for mining, without warranty. For just a bit more I get a brand new card that performs better.. Which would you get? Is there any other reason I should consider another card? Thanks!
  17. Too expensive to be watching ads. This will not go well for them. Also, why is France a whole euro more expensive than Germany?' That doesnt make any sense.
  18. My point is that the phrase "late stage capitalism" is BS. Capitalism has always been out to exploit workers. And workers have never had it better than today.
  19. Little timmy, aged 11, working in the coal mines in 19th century England called. He told me, between coughs, that it is true, things were way better "in the old days".
  20. This would ACTUALLY be useful! And funnily enough probably MORE useful than most wearables. Colon cancer is very serious!
  21. Can they stop with this metaverse nonsense already? I don't follow this stuff closely, but is it even out and available? Or is it just something Mark Zuckerberg wont stop talking about? Apart from very specific use cases like certain games (cockpit style flight sims or racing games) and certain business use cases, VR is never going to take off. Why? Because putting on VR glasses in cumbersome at best, and downright impossible if you have kids to look after, other people in your house to interact with, etc.
  22. Cool. Still never have had a need to own an iPad. I kinda wish I did, because they are cool devices, but I really don't see myself using it.
  23. This looks cool, thanks! Perhaps a fun way to tinker with some tech.
  24. Because maybe I trust the company that makes my phone with my data, but I don't trust Xiaomi (Roborock vacuum) or iRobot (Amazon). Also, phones tend to get very regular security updates and are more buttoned down. Most iot devices or "smart home" devices do not, so they pose a greater security risk. There have been plenty of reports of smart door bells or baby monitors being part of botnets and doing DDOS attacks. Most iot companies don't give an F about the security of the devices they put out. So, yes there is a big difference. It is not paranoia if it is true.
  25. Yeah, maybe I will look into this actually. Although that is more hacking and setup than I had previously thought about. But I had no idea this was even an option. Yeah vacuuming my whole house takes about 45-60 mins. Only the downstairs takes maybe 20 minutes, which is what the robot would handle. I heard good things from my brother in law about the robot vacuum. I always assumed they were crap, but the consensus seems to be that they are actually OK. Don't expect miracles, but it keeps the place cleanER. Thanks for the input!
