  1. OK thanks for the feedback. Yeah its probably 8 or 9 years old, so it is not impossible that it is just going bad. The temps are totally normal, dont exceed 75C or so. Thanks for weighing in. I could try and repaste, but at this point I don't think that will fix it. Guess I'll be shopping for a new GPU..
  2. Hello all, My PC has recently started crashing under load when gaming. Either blue screen of death and reboot, or crashing the games to desktop. Happens with any game. If I turn the max GPU power down to 70% in MSI Afterburner, the crashes stop, or become much more rare. So I am thinking either the PSU is going bad, and cannot supply enough stable power anymore under 100% load, or the GPU is going bad. Which is more likely to blame in this scenario, PSU or GPU? Sadly I don't have either another PSU or GPU to test at the moment, so I'll have to order either part. My specs: Ryzen 2700X Asrock B450 iTX PSU: Corsair 600W ITX GPU: EVGA Geforce 980 Ti RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHZ. Thanks!
  3. Hello all, Long story short, my wife ended up on a website that got hacked. She stupidly clicked on a link that told her her "browser was outdated". It downloaded 'something' to her downloads folder. She then realized her mistake, and without opening the downloaded file, she deleted it and emptied her trash. - She had Avira antivirus running the whole time, and it did not detect / pop up anything. - I've done a full system scan with Avira, didn't find anything. - I've done a full system scan with ESET, didn't find anything. I'm still kind of worried that clicking this malicious link somehow infected her PC with some trojan, zero-day attack, or whatever. I know some forms of attack don't even require the user to click anything, and visiting a malicious website is enough. So I am tempted to just reinstall Windows 11 to be on the safe side? Or am I being paranoid? What would you do? Thanks!
  4. So you got the early access version and refunded it? I think I will try it on Game Pass, I won't pay $70 for it... And I was thinking of upgrading my PC to play it, but I don't think I will.
  5. Yes, I have not played it, but after watching numerous gameplay videos, this sticks out to me. It almost seems like the game is actually LESS open than a game like Fallout and Skyrim, even though the total playable area is probably technically much bigger, it feels smaller. Its like jumping from map to map in your spaceship, doing a task, then jumping to a different map. It all feels very disjointed. I know there must be technical limitations to their engine, but it is still disappointing for a "space game". The scope actually seems similar to The Outer Worlds, which was developed by a team of 75. This was a team of 500 developers. A bit disappointing they couldn't expand the scope much. I understand it probably wasn't feasible to do No Man's Sky level of freedom. BUT If they could have only implemented at Least ONE of the following: - fly around on planet surface, even if you cannot land everywhere. - fly between planets in the same system, even if you cannot fly down to the surface. - physically fly from orbit down onto the planet surface, even if you can only land in a few places ... it would have felt much better.
  6. It will be buggy for sure. I just hope they've learned their lesson with Fallout 76 and not straight up told lies about what you can expect. They did say something like "limitless exploration" and then it turned out that the planets are smaller instances. But the term limitless exploration is a vague one... True, but isn't this the case for every game? Do a lot of games release unedited long gameplay videos before release?
  7. I am excited to try it, since I've enjoyed most of their RPG's I've played. That being said, I am going to wait for reviews until I actually buy it. I will probably subscribe to game pass until I finish it. I am cautiously optimistic. It is probably NOT going to live up to the hype, but I think it will be just a good, enjoyable RPG. What do you guys think about the release date? I think it is beyond ridiculous that they release it LATER for people who ONLY spend 70 bucks. Yes, that's right, they are releasing it on sept 1st, and you are being punished for not spending ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. (I refuse to call it "early access", its the actual release date). The fact that they call sept 6 "day one" is beyond ridiculous. Its day 6. I hate when companies do this. EA has had a habit of doing the same for Battlefield releases. Just shameful. Don't you feel dirty now though?
  8. The problem with their testing errors seems to be that LTT is a big operation. I imagine it goes like this: - one guy does the testing - another guy writes the script / is on camera - another guy does the graph making - another guy does the editing - another guy does the uploading / correcting on screen... An error such as in the 4090 review would have been easily caught by a smaller operation, with one person doing all these tasks themselves. There would be 3 instances in which you would go like "hold on a minute, this doesn't seem right". So it sounds like they need to: - have more stringent quality control in place for testing in the first place - If an error is found, they need to be willing to retest, not use the result, re-record a video, or take a video down. Right now they don't seem willing to do any of these things.
  9. I did not follow this story closely, but... I have watched Linus since when they were 5 guys in a house, and I used to listen to the WAN show every week. But I have tuned out of their content a while ago for two reasons: - I found their reviews were always seriously lacking in depth (especially as opposed to the likes of Hardware Unboxed or Gamers Nexus) - Linus' apparent inability to take criticism to heart and learn from it, and instead doubling down on a "non-apology", really turned me off. From watching the Gamers' Nexus video, not much has seemingly changed since I stopped watching. In Dutch there is a saying: "Tall trees catch a lot of wind". LTT is a big channel, so they obviously get a lot of scrutiny. But I think Gamers Nexus makes valid points. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is how you correct them that matters. If anyone has the resources to do retesting when a serious error is found, it is LTT. They have seemingly been unwilling to retest, or take down videos, because it would "take too much time" or "be too expensive". That is not excusable. Hopefully they can improve their testing quality in the future. Hopefully they can do the right thing going forward when serious errors are found.
  10. I mean, yes, it is obvious that more goes into engineering something as complex as a GPU than most consumers understand. But the simple fact remains, VRAM is not an issue, until you run out of it. I would say the hardware is even more complex than most "tech Youtubers" understand. Most reviewers have a pretty limited understanding of how the hardware actually works, they just run some benchmarks. The only exception would be Digital Foundry. Whenever I listen to their podcast, I am amazed by how much they know about how games, game engines and 3D visuals are actually made and work. But then strangely they are mostly a software / games channel, whereas they probably understand more about the hardware than most hardware reviewers. The only other exception is maybe Gamers Nexus. They do a lot of in depth testing. But even with them, I am sometimes not sure if they understand the full picture of how everything works.
  11. Max GPU clearance is about 267mm long, 54mm thick. So the reference 6950XT should just barely fit. Ok thanks, that's the feeling I got about the 6700XT as well. The 6700XT would probably be OK for now, but I tend to keep my hardware for a long time, so it feels like it would start to struggle quite quickly. Thanks!
  12. Not at all. Well, I use this monitor as well for color accurate work, and the Dell Ultrasharp I got happens to be 60 Hz. Don't really have the space to get a second monitor setup... Well the 6700XT doesn't push much frames beyond 60fps at 1440p anyway, so it wouldn't really make sense to upgrade the monitor anyway. The 6800XT reference model isn't available anymore, and all the aftermarket (AIB models) 6800XT's are too big for my case. The 6950XT reference model from AMD is available, and actually much smaller, and fits in my case. It is smaller than the smallest 6800XT I can get currently. The 6800XT and 6950XT are not that far apart in price/performance actually.. but it is true that the 6800XT is better in that regard. Would 6700XT be enough for 1440p / 60 for upcoming games like Starfield?
  13. Hello all, With the extremely underwhelming releases lately of the RTX 4070 and 4060Ti, and AMD not releasing a 7800XT soon, I am about to pull the trigger on a last-gen AMD GPU... Now I am upgrading from a 980Ti... playing at 1440p / 60Hz. Going to pair it with a new 5800x3D. Which of these would you get / is the best bang for the buck? - 6700XT (Powercolor Fighter) for 360 EUR - 6800XT for 570 EUR. - 6950XT (reference model) for 699 EUR. The 6800XT I include for reference, but is actually a nonstarter for me, since I would have to buy a new ITX case to fit it, making it actually more expensive than buying the 6950XT. According to the graph from Tom's hardware, the 6950XT is about 3.5x faster than my 980Ti, while the 6700XT is about 2.25x faster. Or the 6950XT is about 55% faster than the 6700XT... But for almost double the money. So I guess the best bang for buck is the 6700XT.. But is the 6700XT good enough for 1440P / 60Hz for a few years? It only has 12GB of VRAM vs 16GB... Currently it averages about 75 fps at 1440P, which would be enough for me, but doesn't give me much wiggle room? Would the safer bet be the 6950XT? I have the money for either, but I want to make a good decision value-wise... Thanks! D
  14. What a bunch of BS. I live in Europe. We have very good minimum wages, also for restaurant workers. Tipping is nonexistent here, as they are paid a normal living salary. Still, restaurants are abundant. Fast food exists here. Pigs are not flying (yet), hell hasn't frozen over. Go figure. Sounds like you have been brainwashed by the talking points the corporations use to lobby against minimum wage increases. The only thing that will happen if you raise the minimum wage is the C-suite executives can't buy a third boat or a fourth private jet.
  15. LOL. And it sounds like you've worked at the C-suite of a fast food corporation buddy. Stacking supermarket shelves is also a shit job. Yet people fight to get jobs at Costco. Why? Because they actually pay their employees well, offer good healthcare and other benefits, and try to make the job environment as pleasant as possible. And their business is booming.
  16. If they are so poorly run or doing poorly that they need to resort to these kinds of tactics, yes, let them go out of business. If you cannot find enough employees, maybe try paying them a wage they can actually live on. This is the same kind of logic that people used in my country when the government implemented a digital cash register system that made it much harder for restaurants and bars to evade taxes. "But they will go out of business". Good, if they are so poorly run they cannot afford to pay their taxes, they deserve to go out of business. FFS.
  17. I would be seriously in favor of just banning AI technology for certain uses (such as this). Sure, it stands in the way of "progress". But the proponents of this kind of "progress" always state some kind of rosy picture where due to more industrialization and more automation, humans will be free to live a life of luxury and leisure. This is not true at all of course. The owners of the tools of automation will reap the rewards (i.e. the rich will get richer) while others will be left behind. This is akin to the industrial revolution 150 years ago. Governments and corporations need to learn lessons from what went wrong back then, and be proactive on how to use this technology wisely, while helping those who are displaced by it.
  18. The thing is that you really only need to lower texture quality. That is the only thing that really impacts VRAM usage. The rest could be on Ultra. That being said, its kind of stupid. You have a powerful GPU like the RTX 3070 that can do RT and everything. And then you have to lower texture quality, a setting which can REALLY impact visual quality a lot. Low textures can look shit. Who cares that you have RT on, if you have to look at bad textures. I don't know what it is with Hogwarts Legacy or The Last of US, but something about how those games are built eats up VRAM. You can say "Oh those games are just badly optimized". But 8GB has been mainstream since the GTX 1070 now.. it is really normal that games are starting to require more VRAM nowadays.
  19. Actually, I say sell NOW, before the prices drop in the used market. You can still get a good price for it currently. As Hardware Unboxed recently pointed out, the used market is a bit slow to react usually. Now it is slowly dawning on people that the RTX 3070 isn't gonna cut it for very long.. As far as what to replace it with, don't get the 4070 or you'll be posting the same question a year from now. Get something with 16GB of VRAM. 6800XT or better sounds fine. At current prices, you can sell your RTX 3070 for 350 USD and get an RX 6800XT for 500 USD. Not a bad swap... Its like a 25% performance boost, and it will probably age better with more VRAM. You'll lose ray tracing performance though..
  20. I think this belief stems from the time of the 10900K, 11900K CPU's. Those were absolute power hogs to be able to come close to top AMD performance. And even then, the xx600K parts were not that bad. I think people are slow to adapt their "common knowledge". Also, the 5800X3D was pretty power efficient for the performance...
  21. Thanks guys @Clearviper @John Reactor! I might get a Game pass subscription to try it out.
  22. Yes perhaps even with your 6750XT, the 5800X3D will deliver a much better experience than what you currently have. For sure better 1% lows. You can probably still sell your 5700X for a decent price too. AMD recommends 850 Watts with the 6950XT. But the 5800X3D is not that power hungry actually, so depending on the quality of your PSU, you might be able to get away with it.
  23. Hello all, With the recent (buggy) release of Star Wars Jedi Survivors, I was thinking of playing the previous game, Jedi Fallen Order, for the first time on PC. I was looking up reviews on this game, and it seems like the game was a buggy mess at launch, borderline unplayable, on PC. Can someone tell me whether they fixed the game since then? Or is it still not a great experience? Thanks!
  24. It depends if you are talking about upgrading an existing system or building a new one. If you are upgrading the GPU, and keeping your CPU, or vice versa, sure, get whatever you want. With any given CPU, an RTX 4080 will be faster than an RTX 4070. Period. When building a new system however, it doesn't make sense to spend your money on a $1600 RTX 4090 and get a $100 core i3 CPU. You will get better performance in more games by going with for example an $1200 RTX 4080, and spending that saved $400 budget going with a $500 i7 CPU. The total amount spent is the same, but it really does matter where you spend it. I think that is where the cliche of "is my system bottlenecking" comes from. ---- Just an afterthought: we are kind of in unprecedented times with AM4 right now. Many people own an older AM4 CPU, like yourself with the 3900X (although I wouldn't consider that a 'weak' CPU). These people can potentially jump 3 generations to a Ryzen 5000 series without upgrading anything else. For those people, when upgrading their GPU it might make sense to get a tier lower than they would normally, if that allows for an upgrade to a 5800X3D. Just yesterday I encouraged some guy to get a 6950XT + 5800X3D over the 7900XTX + keep his old CPU. For CPU heavy titles, that would be the better combo. But like I said, this is kind of unprecedented, because typically you'd have to spend way more on a meaningful CPU upgrade, including the motherboard and maybe RAM, so that choice was not really an option.
