  1. Hi everyone.

I need some help/guidance on my situation.  I have 2 780's in SLI that I have been previously using to run a triple 24" surround.  I had to give up one of the screens for my wife's new computer so now I'm running only 2.  I mostly play fps games but I noticed that since I disconnected the 3rd screen, the SLi has been disabled.  I noticed this only after reviewing my Precision X log and saw that only GPU 1 was being used.  the other was just sitting there.

I'm now trying to setup the SLi where I have one primary monitor for BF4 and the 2nd monitor to show the battle screen.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong but the Nvidia control panel doesn't let me hook it up this way.  I have also tried to only have one monitor and then setup SLI which works but then when I add the 2nd monitor after powering down, the software recognizes the 2nd monitor and shuts it off.

    Very frustrating!!

I hope that someone has some experience with this and can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance!!

  2. If you still haven't made the plunge check out optoma HD 131xe, its in the same territory as the W1070 for price and quality and I can vouch for its ability in picture quality and 3d.

Also if you do get a projector check out Tridef 3d (you can get a free trial. Convert your 2d films, pictures (dunno why one would want to convert pictures) and games into 3d and its surprisingly good.

Thanks! I'll take a look.  Hoping to get the projector pretty soon.

  3. Think of a movie theater they have good 3D and all that is is a projector. It is a very nice one and the movie was originally shot or rendered in 3D. Me personally seeing someone have a theater room BenQ is a great choice and if you don't have a lot of light coming into the room then you don't need that many lumens.  The more the the better though. Just go with what your budget picks. They are all really nice and look amazing too.

Thanks!  I'll post pics once I'm done.

  4. Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase a projector for a dedicated theatre room.  I will NOT be watching TV on it - it is just for movies.  I'm going to be projecting to a wall with the special paint you can get that gives the right surface.

I have never had a projector before.  I have done some research and I know that the higher the lumens, the better the picture quality.  I'm going to be running this directly off my NAS (QNAP TS-451) which has an HDMI output.  1080p is the minimum.  Don't know if 3D works well with projectors.  I'm planning to scale the picture to around 100".  3d would be a good option for me for the future.

I have done some digging around and it seems that Benq has quite a few nice units.  I have also seen some of the Sony units but they seem really over-priced.  I'm trying to keep it around $1000 for the projector alone with some room to move.

I would love to get some guidance and advice on which units would be a good buy.

I was considering this unit from BenQ on sale for $849 with 2 glasses:

This one from BenQ which is their short throw model but no glasses for $899

I'm very curious about this one because it has 4000 lumens.  Also a BenQ for $999:

    Thanks in advance!

  5. well done on the build and the pics so far.  I love how well you document your builds.  I have followed all of them.  Keep up the great work!  I'm most curious to see the finishing pieces like the wiring and the watercooling stuff.  I feel that is your forte - the biggest thing that differentiates you from others.  can't wait.  Popcorn is ready!  Bring it on.

  6. Great advice from @Modzy!!  I personally have a 780 SLi with an sandwich rad setup in the bottom and a 360 on the top.  Link to the pics in my sig.  I'm running a parallel loop for my GPU's and the temps are within 5c of each other.  System is overclocked and I have no issues.  I'm running a single MCP655 pump on the number 4 setting and it keeps everything nice and cool.

    The rads I'm using: 1 - quad 480 (40mm)[bottom]; 1 - triple 360 (40mm) [bottom]; 1 - triple 360 (60mm) [top]

  7. Looks to be an awesome rig in the works.  If the 8GB cards are indeed around the corner, return the other ones and get those instead.  I like the Air 540 but have you thought of a larger case?  Case Labs or 900D?  I have big hands and working on a watercooled rig in a smaller case was tough for me.

I'm looking forward to your build log.
