crispybagel got a reaction from GuiltySpark_ in DYI Start button, electrical help needed.
Ok, thanks. Here are some in-progress renderings of the chassis. Maybe a week of work and the design is finished for prototyping and manufacturing.
That sounds like agood idea, how exactly is surge protection implemented for a power button?

i just wanted to clarify that buying 2 kits and a RX480 is obviously not a waste of money and that selling a kindey for it totally reasonable.

crispybagel reacted to Moonzy in Planning on sliing 2 gtx 970s with 4790k but the 4790k only has a max number of pcie lanes of 16?
close to none
source:
to physically plug them in, you would need a splitter of some sort
and it will split the lanes into 8x 8x, so they would BOTH work
if you havent got even one 970, i suggest going with a single 980 Ti
because SLI pose issues that are not worth hassling with if you can get the same performance from a single card
not to mention you get more Vram (3.5gb vs 6gb)

Nvidia SLI runs at x8 speed so it will be running fine. if you want 3 or 4way u need to get the x99 platform as the 5820, 5930 and 5960 has 32 and 40 PCI-e lanes.

crispybagel got a reaction from UnlimitedTMD in How much heat does a backplate really dissipate?
Heatspreader might be a better word for it, i assume it picks up the heat from the components of the card and spreads it evenly over the backplate rather than just letting the higher temps from the core move from 1 position straight up. Aswell as what you said, for cards like the ASUS 980ti or watercooled cards backplates would serve to dissipate heat since it's actually connected to the PCB with thermal pads.
