  1. As I understand it, the momeory controller lies inside the CPU package, so the mobo shouldn't have any effect on it. Don't quote me on that though
  2. afaik Ryzen is not compatible with ECC memory. I think you need to get other RAM for that system then, sorry.
  3. I'd go for a BIOS update. Unfortunately you can't do it without a working system. Maybe the people at the place where you bought it can do it for you.
  4. An actual Ryzen R7 1700 @4GHz here ... I have a 60Hz 1080p display and I play most AAA games with V-Sync on. Butter smooth. And before you ask, no I didn't get an 8-core for gaming only. I stream and I like to use the h.264 option for encoding and when I bought the R7 1700 there were only 4-core i7 CPUs. Anyways. I get about 170fps in DOTA 2 and LoL when V-Sync off. I also play GTA V online with a couple of friends and it's said that GTA V doesn't like Ryzen. Again, butter smooth experience. I don't think you can really go wrong with either Intel or AMD at this point if you're a gamer. But I'd choose to buy the R5 1600 instead of the R7 1700 or the i5-8600K because it delivers good performance and is way cheaper than both options. Also you can upgrade your CPU in the future without having to switch the whole platform. I'm thinking about Ryzen 3 (or whatever they will call it) when they use the 7nm process. Coffeelake delivers the most frames per second, yes. But it's a more expensive and also more limiting plattform in my opinion. Personally I was very happy to not having the need to build an Intel system again. I had a Core 2 Quad Q9550, an i7-2600K and an i7-4790K ... boring.
  5. The 1600 and the 1600X can be overclocked the same way, depentinding on your luck in the silicon lottery ofcourse. BUT the 1600 comes with a decent cooler which is also enough to overclock it to 3.6 to 3.8 GHz. So to me the 1600 is way better than the 1600X.
  6. I use the RGB features to make it fitting to the GPU. So what I've seen is normal for a Ryzen system? What if I manually tune the timings? As far as I understand I can go up with the timings a little when I can have the RAM operate at a higher frequency because of the Infinity Fabric ^^
  7. DOTA 2 is able to use multi threads. I get about 160fps on ULTRA with my R7 1700 overclocked to 4GHz. If I were you, I'd go with the R5 1600(X) because it is enough for what you want to do, it's cheaper than the Intel stuff and you'll get at least two iterations of CPUs in the future for that socket.
  8. Hello everyone, I have just build myself a new computer with an AMD Ryzen R7 1700 overclocked to 4GHz on an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero with 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200MHz. The case is the Fractal Design Meshify C, the PSU is the bequiet! Dark Power Pro 11 750W and the Storage is a SAMSUNG SSD 960 Pro NVMe 1TB. I cool the system with the Corsair H110i and my GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti reference. I use Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. Here is a picture of my rig. So after overclocking my R7 1700 to 4GHz on 1.325V vCore (8h Prime95, 8h AIDA64) stable I started playing with the D.O.C.P options on my Motherboard. Since I don't know much about memory overclocking I activated the D.O.C.P standard profile and set the RAM to 2933MHz instead of 3200MHz. When I set the RAM to 3200MHz the computer won't even post, no matter what. I appreciate your help and opinions =)
  9. 15.5GHz? I hope you're talking about the 1550MHz I reported. I tried every power plan in Windows 10. I'm on performance mode atm.

  13. Hello everyone, I just build myself a Ryzen System and I want to overclock it. I did some quick and dirty stuff with Ryzen Master but when I try to OC the CPU from the BIOS the CPU is at 1550MHz constantly. That's the system: CPU: R7 1700 MOBO: ASUS Strix B350-F Gaming RAM: HyperX Fury 2666MHz GPU: GTX 1070 PSU: bequiet! Straight Power 10 500W Those are my UEFI settings: I don't know what I am missing at this point. Please help me When I did some CB R15 testing the Ryzen Master OC scored 1740 but the UEFI "OC" scored 618 ...
  14. I think it has to do with how compact the case is. You don't need as much room for cablemanagement like that. That's why the PSU is mounted vertically in the fron as well.

AMD R7 1700 @stock (undervolted offset -0.1385V) 16GB HyperX Savage 2666MHz GTX 690 (I will put a GTX 1070 FE in there next month) ASUS B350M-A be quiet! Straight Power 10 500W 80+ Gold SAMSUNG SSD 960 EVO Bitfenix Prodigy M black Thanks to undervolting the CPU barely hits 50°C with the stock cooler under Prime95! The cable management was tough in this case but I think I did ok on that. Let me know what you think about it =) Saw this picture from while I was building. This was the first test. Started with a USB drive ofcourse. Looks really nice to me.
  17. Sorry for the late response. By crashing, I mean BOSD and in Prime95 I only tested with small FFTs. Right now I'm on 4.5GHz to be really stable. I really like to know if my system is becoming instable or if it's software related. May I contact you via private messages? I might need some help.
  18. That's exactly what's confusing me. That it looks stable while stressing but crashes with that workload. I game a lot on it and it doesn't crash. I also installed like a ridiculous amount of Software and drivers. How do I know if it's a hardware or a software failure? The only thing that comes to my mind is reinstalling the OS and test it in a "clean state" again ...
  19. Hello everyone, about two years ago I build my PC with an i7-4790K, an ASUS Z97-Pro Gamer and 32GB DDR3 HyperX Savage 1600MHz. I overclocked the CPU to 4.7GHz with an input voltage of 1.900V, CoreVoltage of 1.320V and a multiplier of 47 with a base clock of 100.0MHz. This setting was 24h prime95 stable, 24h AIDA64 stable and 24h XTU stable. About two weeks ago I rendered a recoded gameplay with Handbrake 1.0.7 in 1080p 60fps H.265. My computer crashed! It even crashes with a multiplier of 46 ... 45 looks stable What the duck is wrong with my Computer? The other specs of this machine: SAMSUNG SSD 950 Pro (NVMe SSD) GeForce GTX 980 Ti 600 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 10 CM Modular 80+ Gold Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 Bit (yes I actually bought this back in the day) Here is a picture of my PC:
  20. I own a reference card. Since you have SAMSUNG memory on that card, I assume you don't have a reference card. Macbe this really makes a big difference for the GTX 980 Ti after all.
  21. Dude you still got like 250 more than I. I wonder why the difference is that big. At least in benchmarks it looks like a GTX 980 Ti can beat a GTX 1070
