  1. You should be fine to be honest with a weaker GPU, especially if right now you are only using 1080p monitors! The 3070 is going to be overkill for 1080p and you could get similar results with a cheaper GPU. For now I’d recommend the 1660 Super if you can afford it - my system is really similar to yours (3700X though instead of 5600X) and it runs pretty intensive games at 1080p at ultra settings really well, so eSports titles like CS:GO/DOTA 2 will probably run great at 1080p/144Hz.
  2. Yeah, I think the 1660 Super is going to be more of a bottleneck on my PC for gaming , though I bought this system for productivity (programming) with some gaming on the side! I might try using the Ryzen RAM overclock tool and see if I can get a stable 3200MHz OC there, but it's nice to know that I can have a stable 3000MHz baseline!
  3. What about the Cooler Master Silencio S400/S600? I've just built my current PC with one and it meets quite a lot of your requirements: the front panel is nice and clean, you can get a version with tempered glass on the left side, and the top can be covered up with an included cover, though you can remove it and replace it with a fan filter if you need top fans in the future. Airflow is really decent as well - the only downside I can think of is that there's no Type C, but it does have an SD card slot which is a bonus.
  4. I've enabled XMP but downclocked the RAM speed to 3000Mhz, and so far so good - Prime95 seems to work okay with no immediate errors. It's a shame that I can't run the memory at the "proper" speed for the Ryzen CPU: is there going to be a performance impact because of this, and could I eventually run it at 3200Mhz (does RAM "bed in" as I have read on some forum threads or would I need to manually overclock it?)?
  5. It depends whether you’re ok with switching platforms, but I’d also really recommend either the iPhone SE or 11 - I moved from a OnePlus 5 a year ago to a 11 and it is a huge improvement in virtually every way. There’s also the SE If you want something cheaper (but only one camera and large bezels)
  6. Yep, the RM series come with an 8pin - my brother has an RM PSU and uses the 8 pin with his RX 580.
  7. Hi everyone, I've recently rejoined the PC fold after moving to laptops for a few years, and I've just completed my custom built PC with a Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB of Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 RAM, B550M AORUS ELITE motherboard and GTX 1660 Super. However, I am having trouble running the RAM in dual-channel mode at the rated 3200MHz speed using XMP. When using each stick individually, XMP works great, and both sticks without XMP at 2133MHz works fine too, but when I want to use XMP (to get full Ryzen performance), my system becomes unstable: I get MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSODs, Prime95 and Memtest86 also result in errors (probably due to bit flips). I spoke to the store where I bought the memory from (Aria PC in the UK), who said to try the sticks one at a time as I have described. This suggests to me that the RAM is not at fault: could it be a motherboard or CPU issue? Anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks
  8. There are a few with Core M processors if you want something thinner - it depends if you want to sacrifice performance for portability. These would include the Dell E7270 and I believe the EliteBook Folio series as well
  9. At this price, getting a used/refurbished business laptop would be the best option. Dell have a Latitude E4370 for £490 (inc. VAT) (no link unfortunately) with an Intel Core i5 6300U, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. The only problem is that it is reasonably heavy at 1.9 kg, so it may not be as portable as you like. There is also the HP EliteBook series and ThinkPad to consider: here are a few EBay links: EliteBook 840 G3: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-840-G3-6th-Gen-i5-6300U-256GB-SSD-8GB-RAM-Windows-7-Mint-Condition-Never-Used-/331887518416?hash=item4d4609a2d0:g:SAAAAOSwRQlXc5u4 ThinkPad T460: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T460-Laptop-HARDLY-USED-IN-MINT-CONDITION-/252862917249?hash=item3adfcdea81:g:rb4AAOSwTM5Y70du (slightly over budget) Dell E5470: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Latitude-E5470-Laptop-Core-i5-6300-8GB-128SSD-Win10-Pro-12mth-Wty-Vat-Inc-/112378985107?hash=item1a2a4f3a93:g:J5kAAOSw5UZY-iN5 Take a look and let me know what you think
  10. @Pendragon It's just so frustrating as when the 5510 works, it's a fantastic laptop, and would serve my needs perfectly. I will definitely talk to the agent and see about getting a 5520 though, as it would be nice to get an upgrade due to all my troubles. Dell were a little specific last time about me getting the exact same config as before, but I am with the Resolution Expert Center who are apparently meant to deal with escalations like these so fingers crossed I suppose
  11. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get. If I were to get a refund, I would get around £1400-1500 (so around $1400-1500), so any suggestions around this price range would be fantastic. I'm not quite sure what to get - there is the XPS 15/Precision 5520, but as I've had plenty of issues with mine I don't know whether I want to take the risk. Here is what I'm considering at the moment: 1. Dell XPS 15 9560 - Perfect for me, but with my model (essentially the prev. gen model) being so unreliable, IDK to take the risk 2. ThinkPad T460/T460P or Dell 5480 - Great business laptops, but are a real downgrade from what I have currently. To be honest, I don't really game that much, if at all to be honest, so gaming performance is of little concern. What I do want is something that is both portable and powerful at the same time, and something adequate for my needs as a potential CS/Math major.
  12. Hi all, Back in November I purchased a Dell Precision 5510 from Dell Outlet to use as my primary laptop (I had a desktop before but as I'm going to college abroad, I need a good laptop for portability's sake). At first, everything was fine with the laptop, However, after a few weeks' use, it started to develop issues: the laptop would wake randomly from sleep, and eventually, performance slowed down to the point that it felt slower than my previous desktop (with an i5-4460 and Intel 530 SSD). Due to this, Dell offered me a replacement system with the exact specification as before, thus I decided to take it as I really like the laptop when it isn't being faulty. At first, this replacement (which I am typing this on) worked perfectly, with the only issue being that it came with Windows 7 when I asked for Windows 10, so I had to reinstall. Yet, I am now having GPU/display issues with this laptop - when I had the Anniversary Update, the screen would randomly go black for a few seconds, then return, but now the Creator's Update is out, I keep getting flashing lines/graphical artifacts/momentary black screens. This still happens even with a reinstall of Windows and downgrading graphics drivers, so I believe it could be a hardware problem. I am currently dealing with an agent from Dell, who says that Dell Engineering may have to take my laptop away for inspection. Would this mean I would perhaps get a replacement, as it would be horribly inconvenient to give away my only computer. If I were to get a replacement, should I take my chances with another 5510, or would I be able to ask for a different model (perhaps a 5520 or 9560, though I've heard loads of issues with those as well, so I'm perhaps going to look at Latitudes instead). I've had three repairs with my previous one plus a replacement, which has also failed, so would Dell be in any way sympathetic to this? Alternatively, I could ask for a refund (through Dell or by credit card) Essentially, it's a choice of keeping/getting another 5510, having another Dell model or getting a refund. What would be the best thing to do in these circumstances? Many thanks in advance for your help!
  13. I believe you can get one with a US layout, but you might have to contact Dell's business store by phone.
  14. I would say that the best option for you would be to get a MacBook and PC desktop. Apple's desktop lineup isn't great to be honest, as it is lacking a little in upgradeability and expandability, in comparison to their laptops which are some of the best on the market. Look at getting a used or refurbished 2015 model MacBook Pro - the performance is only very slightly less, and they are more usable laptops IMO. Then build yourself a decent desktop for Linux/Windows.
  15. The G4 (H815, European model) supports all of T-Mobile's bands (according to GSM Arena) - I did get 4G when I visited last year, and Wi-Fi is available on campus anyway so it's not a huge deal.
