  1. I'm considering making a "junk yard" build for fun and for youtube. Plus my GF could use something to do some light PC gaming on. Also want to attempt to stretch the project for a second video to make a hackintosh, so I'm sticking with intel. I've been browsing Ebay for the gems, clearly bots are in use or something. I've had winning bids on machines at around ~$80 with three seconds left and then somehow there's 10 more bids within 0.5s and the auction ends at $250. So ebay seems unlikely to find a cheap unit to start with. I could try to source each part, I just assume it will actually be more expensive. I want to keep the whole build under $200 but the cheaper the better obviously, just to be able to do it. Craigslist is a disaster. People are charging $80 for 15 year old laptops I wouldn't take for free.
  2. Hosting a website on your home network is a horrible idea for about a billion reasons. 1. You will likely have a dynamic IP address 2. You are opening up your home network to SWARMS of attacks.
  3. If you have two identical drives, you could get familiar with FreeNAS, which will also run Plex as well as manage your drives and raids.
  4. My "sever" is primarily a Plex server. Plex is a software you can install to mnage media (movies, tv shows...). It has a phone app too. So I hve all my movies and shows, and then there is a Netflix-like interface. I connect to it on my PC through chrome, or on my phone and I chrome cast it to my TV.
  5. Are you using a Logitech, Razer, or other keyboard with advanced software? Attempt a different keyboard and let us know if the results are the same. If another keyboard works, either your keyboard is physically broken, or the special software needs to be reinstalled.
  6. This is actually a question for a computer I'm repairing at my day job, I am going nuts over this. Client can't install Adblock Plus on chrome. We remove viruses and all that and gave it a shot, it freezes all of chrome when you click "add" to chrome, it says "Checking..." and freezes. After using Revo to remove and reinstall chrome on top of some other things, I give in and convince them to let me reset their PC using the windows 10 Reset This PC and Keep Files. Computer "resets" I cear out all Google stuff from appdata and install Chrome using their offline standalone installer. The exact same problem persists. This is a "clean" computer at his point with the same issue.
  7. I "want" one but I don't have one. They are large, generate heat, and some of them are even loud. Power in my town goes down maybe once a year?
  8. Im an avid reddit user, addict actually. If you need PC help though, you're more likely to get help here. There's just different communities that behave different ways.
  9. Could you provide more guidance on using the system? This is how I set it just based off what I was hearing.
  10. Hey thanks for this. I will be doing a lot of research.
  11. You don't need to worry about any plugins when you first start. I don't use ant plugins at all in my Premiere workflow (just in AE). You may want something for color grading... But you shouldn't want t just add plugins.. what are you trying to accomplish? You use plugins to do things yo otherwise would have trouble with. When you know what that is that you need, you can then see if a plugin exists, you're working backwards
  12. Sorry, very new to this area. Actual audio source? Meaning the AT2020? And no, I was going to buy a $60 audio interface off Amazon but I saw this for a little more and thought maybe I could benefit the recording by having the dial controls over the LOW/MID/HIGH. Of course they didn't quite work as expected, I do almost all editing in post.
  13. Equipment: Behringer Xenyx Q502USB Audio Technica AT2020 XLR version The gain on the mixer is at the absolute minimum, and the volume is still fairly high. There is a QUITE NOTICEABLE dead noise static and hiss. I am able to correct for it fairly well in post but I'd love to start with a cleaner sound. Moving the mi closer definitely seems to help a little but I think it's more of the voice overpowering it, and when I record videos I cant be breathing into my mic, I'll need a small distance of maybe a foot or two.
  14. Speaking of padding and margin, GOT YOU COVERED! Also goes over border-box lol
  15. Hey guys. I make web design tutorials on Youtube and I actually got my first sponsor after only three videos. The video I'm working on now, which is the first video for my sponsor is on CSS resets, bu honestly it's a little weak for a video. What do YOU want to learn that would make a good video?
  16. My questions is more conceptual and less specific. I am working on a video for youtube and I am hoping you guys can help me. Im trying to learn about and subsequently explain DNS for a video. A couple of questions. 1. Are most hosting providers also authoritative DNS servers? I want to know where the A record comes into play. If the recursive DNS server fails to resolve the query it is sent off the the root servers, and then what? How does a root server determine the server with the record on it? 2. I also want to know more about prorogation. If the query is supposed to be found using the DNS system the way it is, why do you need to wait for DNS propagation? If the domain is registered and added to the root server, the root server should have the record for it right? And if Authoritative servers query the root server, what are they actually getting propagated with? Do they actually download incremental full copies? And if so, again why must you wait for the next propagation if your query is supposed to hit the root servers anyway?
  17. As a web designer, I know you dislike Google but Chrome's webkit supports more features and standards than any other browser. Maybe you could check out Chromium
  18. They won't be dangerous. The LED won't draw more power at some point causing a sort or something. They would only ever really burn out, and you just replace it.
  19. There are quite a few web design channels. I believe mine is quite a bit different format though. Most channels are very instructional and lecture styled. My videos focus more on visual learning and explaining more concepts rather than repeating back code to you. I use a lot of animation to try and keep your attention. Web design would cover HTML ya, but HTML is a fairly small portion. My first video covers just about all you need to know about HTML. CSS is the other language in web design where a lot of the focus will be. Javascript also being exceptionally important, but I haven't decided how I'm going to handle JS since SOOOO many resources exist for that. I hope to soon make some web-connected raspberry pi projects. And also hoping I can do some networking tutorials. I wouldn't mind touching on hardware in the future... but we'll see
  20. Looks like you've got the equipment. If you can handle editing and can produce a polished video I say go for it. I think 70% of success on Youtube is faking a professional set up as best as possible. If you have clean audio you're a decent portion of the way there.
  21. Well, I'm glad someone asked! XD. Thank you for asking. I got it! I don't 100% have it but it's looking very good. I spoke with someone from the company who I guess deal with marketing or sponsorships directly and they were impressed with the content (what little of it there is) and they said they do believe the videos would grow and that it would be interesting for them to have an advertisement in the video. Basically gambling that I will continue to create content, lucky them I plan to. I won't get into any specifics just in case, but they eluded that they may pay about $500 for spots on much larger channels, and they also have an affiliate program. I was able to land on a dollar amount I am excited about for a first ever sponsorship. The representative said he needs to run this whole proposal past his boss, but said as long as the videos aren't "really bad or something" we should be fine. I should be hearing back from them tomorrow. Amazing to see a company believe my channel will succeed and is willing to pay me to continue making videos because they actually believe my videos will be seen. It's crazy validation to all of the hard work.
  22. LOL!!! Build it but im sure is selling it because it shuts down while gaming.
  23. I have a very new Youtube channel that only has 3 videos so far (like I said, very new) in the web design tutorial space, although I hope to branch out just slightly to encompass networking and IoT as well to introduce some hardware. I contacted just a few large-ish companies just in case they would be interested in sponsorship. The reason I went for sponsorship so early is because the style of video I am making, accumulates views over a long time span because it is educational and likely to be more search based. And, sponsorship at first makes sense in this space because my videos are targeted at people new to web design, so these first few videos are crucial. Today, after only three videos uploaded, I have a phone conference with a massive company who you all likely have heard of before. They have sponsored many massive youtube stars, such as Philip Defranco and WendoverProductions. I don't know exactly how this call will go, but I'm excited.
