  1. hold on, linus said himself in the intel extreme upgrade videos that 850Watt and a 3080 is pushing it...so why would a 3090 and a 750 ever be a good idea
  2. So I became Interested in making a plex server on my local network, I used musicbrainz picard to tag and organize everything into folders. then i point plex music library to the correct folder but it only recognizes like 5 or 6 and the rest are the various artists or whatever...i cant figure out what to do anymore
  3. Im sure it can handle light linuxy things, prob not transcoding with plex tho, i dont know if you would be able to offload that task to the gpu without further specs
  4. id say 550W is still enough, seems like ur build would use about 400-450W on full tilt
  5. at this point go for the newer samsung nvme 980 evo instead of the 970 evo
  6. well its still 5V default because of backward compatability, but if the device its communicating with handshakes on a new version of USB or if it supports fast charge, then it will increase voltage...but even at 5V 900mA it should still be 4.5Watts vs 2.5watts for usb 2.0
  7. Yeah okay that's just shows how little experience you actually have. I've dealt with computers from all the major sectors for many years... And plus if workstations where as bad as u make it seem to be they would have died back when they where putting 2 pentium 2's on the same motherboard.... Yet this segment still lives on.
  8. If you are going to go intel go with either 10th gen or 12th gen your amd build does look pretty good overall, just making sure you have 2 8gb stick for ram right? also id say go with 850W psu instead of 750 just for more breathing room
  9. Thats interesting, I mean i know SFX PSU's are REALLY hard to make over 850W so im not that surprised if they all have coil whine issues...but for nearly all of them to be affected by coil whine? jeez
  10. Thats a very similar deal that my father got with an Asus motherboard and a 10900 for $300. He was really happy to get ahold of it. And tbh with you thats part of the reason why Microcenter has stayed afloat this whole time. If i where you id go with it. It will run circles around 4th gen. Yeah your right its has no upgrade path for the CPU but tbh if the cost is that much lower its worth it cause that build will eventually pay for itself since it would last a long time.
  11. As another example, my HP Z820 that i got off ebay and have been rocking for 5 years now had dual e5-2697v2 and they have this special self-contained liquid cooling modual: I have two of these things for my two cpus and they have not once caused problems, meanwhile i have seen my 2 friends with custom PC's go through 4 AIO's from the brands like NZXT and Corsair and eventually fall back to air cooling cause their pumps died.
  12. the "OC edition" is just the same GPU but with higher clocks, it would be the same as EVGA's superclocked for example. as long as your 3080ti performs within like 10% of the ones you are comparing them too then it should be fine, assuming cooling in your case is good too/.
  13. ECC Ram, CPU's that certain features that u dont find on consumer grade or enthusiast grade system, boards with better quality components, better shielding, not just better but more Reliable cooling, PSU's that are redundant, more efficient, and are designed to run for longer. Not to mention that Workstations are specifically tested and validated with whole ranges of components (you dont ever get into a situation where some ppl bought ryzen 5000 cpu's but their motherboard didnt come with a new enough bios version). I can go on and on...
  14. Well a PSU running at 50-70% capacity will last longer than a psu thats at 80-90% capacity....also the PSU tripping itself and shutting down, along with the gpu spikes can sevearly limit its lifespan
  15. its not just about performance, its about the higher standards of testing the workstation grade hardware goes through, along with features you would not find on a consumer/enthusiast grade system.
  16. in the order that u listed them 2x1r is 2 sticks of ram each are single rank 2x2r is 2 sticks of ram each are dual rank (better) 4x1r is 4 stick of ram each are single rank 4x2r is 4 sticks of ram each are dual rank (better) stick with dual rank as they can access your ram way faster than single rank
  17. TBH tho he has enough money to go with a proper workstation grade system... so why would he build a desktop/enthusiast class system where the standards are lower?
  18. NGL userbenchmark has a lot of problems in the way they test your hardware, And they have had their share of bad light...i suggest you do an actual in game benchmark and comparing against YouTube videos of your same gpu.
  19. tbh id go with a 850W minimum with the rtx 3080. You said that the entire system shuts off with the intensive games right? well RTX 3000 is known for its 600W ALONE transient spikes of power that will trip a PSU's overcurrent protection/
  20. can you scroll down in that window there so we can see the rest of the information
