Lab results don't count all that much. We have graphene and super batteries in labs all around the world and have had that for a good number of years in one form or another; yet here we are.

msharp116 reacted to Taf the Ghost in Caselabs is shutting down.
Some of Case Labs stuff would have been hit; some would not have been. (The Tariff run actually affects petroleum products a lot more.) It's 25% Import tax, but that usually translates to about a 10% end-user cost increase. They also *haven't gone into effect yet*.

The real problem would appear to them being an extremely fragile company. They lost 1 account and their production costs go up 80% from a 25% tariff that isn't active yet. This means a lot of bad decisions were made over time, and they simply got crunched by events when they weren't stable enough to handle them. One could also say that their business model required production cost arbitrage out of China.

This won't be the last company to go under like this, but it also explains why this is happening. The entire Cost Structure of some of these industries is based off getting products at prices that aren't actually viable for the industry. China has been one Recession away from causing this chain of events anyway, it's just being kicked off by the USA.

I dont get why this is frowned upon. It two people in a work place turn out to be great together, who the fuck cares. Let them be happy.

I have seen two people in a relationship at work fight and that can be awkward for sure. But that is an outlier

Sorry but "Scraps" and "won't renew" mean two profoundly different things. According to the article it will be 2019 until the on-going contract expires. It's only a small consession to say that they won't renew the contract but

    1) I'll believe it when that time comes and

    2) I would certainly not go back to work at Google or continue to work for them for just a token promise of stopping.

I've been using Windows 10 since launch and the only "advertisement" I've ever seen was the "get office" once, which is actually an app that sends you to the Buy Office page.
Compatibility? Everything runs just fine, even Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, which absolutely refuse to even start on Win7. "spyware"? Can be turned off. Constant updates? Oh no! Bug fixes and improvements. Who needs those? Also can be turned off.

Same. It was nice turning my PC on today and being immediately able to do what I wanted to do. It's great being a Windows 10 user and knowing that Microsoft offers updates for Windows 10 that are intended to keep the end user safe while using their operating system with the ability to postpone updating the operating system while power tasks such as gaming are being done.

To quote from the link, an Intel spokesperson is claimed to have said:
I think this is nothing more than generic butt-covering. If Intel were to say "it's fine, do what you want" then when it breaks, they could be liable for that. The stance is nothing more than "you could do it, we don't recommend it, so if you break anything, it is 100% your problem, not ours". That's standard overclocking risks.

It makes me really sad and depressed to see so many people pre-ordering.
This forum often prides itself in not pre-ordering a game for like 60 dollars, but pre-ordering a motherboard and CPU for 600 dollars, despite not having a single third party (aka trustworthy) benchmark to look at?

Pure idiocy. It is really that hard to just wait a week and see what the performance is like before throwing money at your screens?

I am so sick and tired of people saying phone X looks like phone Y.

No fucking shit they look the same.
Plain back with a camera at the top.
Bottom has a charging port and speakers.
Top has nothing but a microphone.
The sides has volume and power buttons.
The front is just a screen, bezel and maybe a button.

There, I described 90% of all smartphones released in the last decade. They all look the same if you ignore the differencing things, like how this phone doesn't have any buttons on the front while the iPhone does. Like how this phone has a slightly different shape and completely different material for the back. Like how this phone has the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Yes, if you go "just change X and Y and it looks like phone Z" then you can make any smartphone look like a copy of any other smartphone.
Hell, the iPhone 7 is very similar to the Galaxy S2 if you ignore those kinds of differences.

Wanna know what this phone looks like? It looks like a Galaxy S7 if you make it larger than remove the front button.
The S7 in turn looked like a Galaxy S6.
The Galaxy S6 looked like a Galaxy S5 if you changed the plastic to glass and metal.
The Galaxy S5 looked like a Galaxy S4 if you changed the back from glossy plastic to rubbery plastic.
The Galaxy S4 looked like a Galaxy S3 but slightly less round.

By the way, these are all things I have heard being said. The Galaxy S3 was the only phone I have ever seen which people don't go "it looks like phone X", and that's because everyone agreed the Galaxy S3 looked like ass.

If you can't tell the difference between that massive 6.2" screen with no front button, different ports, different materials and so on, and an iPhone, then you need to get your eyes checked.
It's like saying that Samsung's CEO looks like a copy of Apple's CEO because they both have a nose, two ears, two eyes, a mouth and so on.
