sterling42 reacted to GoodBytes in Searching w/ Cortana Forces You to Use Edge + Bing
terrytek loves complaining and act like it is the end of the world, when he has Cortana completely disabled, just giving him a reason to freak out and spew warrantless hate toward Microsoft, and follows the bias news post from Kherm.

Anyway. By default it was going to Bing. But people used ways to make it change the requested URL to Google. As Microsoft explained, they don't have control of what Google or other search engine outputs. Bing has a lot of pop-ups information boxes at the top of search results which Google doesn't. So Cortana expects you to see the information on the Bing page, but you don't get it, so you think Cortana is stupid or not as helpful.

So now it uses Edge, and it will go to Bing.

Oh and Microsoft NEVER said "Hacks"
Stop using bias sites that says crap, and look at the original source:
    Is what Microsoft said
    https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/04/28/delivering-personalized-search-experiences-in-windows-10-through-cortana/

As you can see there is no word "hack" anywhere on the page linked above.

In many ways you're right. But everything has pros and cons. I personally prefer PC as I love messing with it and you can do so many things a part from playing. But I do get your point. As always there is a different product for different tastes.  Getting to work is part of the pleasure of creating your machine. IMHO.

sterling42 reacted to porina in Doom open beta
If devs have a vision then calling it Doom again, as opposed to Doom 4: insert subtitle here, implies a certain connection to the original. I don't see that connection. Simple as that. I haven't kept up with the news. If they're also going to offer a single player mode, fine. This wasn't the beta I was looking for.

Lost interest as soon as I logged in to see it was multi-player only, and team based at that? Well, I might still give it a go since I already downloaded it, but I will have to apologise in advance to whatever team it puts me in as I will drag them down.

sterling42 reacted to sapphirethunder in Does the GTX 970's 500MB slow down modern games?
I have never had any kind of slow downs with my GTX 970.
The whole 0.5Gb memory segmentation is just highly over-exaggerated in how it affects stuff.

    In reality it does nothing.

sterling42 reacted to Serath in (Poll) - Are you a gamer?
I just game for the experience, I hate competitive stuff, achievements, grinding, insane difficulty levels and I really hate losing.

Games I play are mostly the ones with pleasant controls, visuals and story, preferrable all three at once. I tend to pick Easy over Medium or Hard because I'm playing to enjoy the story, not to get pummeled. (Unless Easy makes me the bullet sponge and the enemy die from ballistic cottonballs.)

So yeah, I'm very, very, casual.

sterling42 reacted to Corwin111 in Why do parents get their Kids COD and GTA and stuff like this?
My childhood, and that of my friends was marked by by blood and gore in Wolfenstein3D and Doom, blood and gore and boobies in Duke Nukem 3D, blood and gore in carmageddon and GTA1, and later on, blood and gore in Starcraft and Brood war. More blood and gore in Terminators, Van-Damme and Segal movies, Hellraisers and so forth.

If I may be so bold, we all kinda turned out alright.  In contrast, the kid in my school who had an earlier curfew than the rest of us, was not allowed to watch and play the "bad" stuff and was grounded when he was rude to someone, later committed suicide in prison, where he was incarcerated for rape and aggravated assault. :-/

I realize that any evidence I can give is anecdotal and circumstantial. However there is no shortage of serious studies on the subject as well.

Violent entertainment is an outlet for the base animal, carried within us all. From public executions throughout history, through the Greek Olympics and Roman Gladiatorial battles, to medieval jousting tournaments, to honor duels. People just always gathered to watch this stuff. Yes, even children. This does not necessarily make them bad people... just people. And now is a time of wonder indeed. Because we have ways of doing all this without anyone getting hurt!

Empathy is innate within us all as well, but using it as a barometer to restrain your actions is learned behavior. And children, not having had the time and experience, necessary to learn life's basic lessons in this regard are, in fact, more violent and cruel than your average adult. And there is no better way to develop your empathy into a moral code, than to decide what is acceptable and what is not for yourself. No one can really teach you that. They can give you pointers, but they can not build your morality for you.

You know, I eventually came to the conclusion that shooting the strippers in Duke Nukem was somehow less fun than shooting the aliens. I came to that conclusion all on my own, even though nobody was stopping me.

And as for "maturity", the kid in the OP's example actually gives a much wittier response than you can see from many adults playing these games anyhow. Average Joe CODplayer would probably go "Oh yeah? My fist is inside YOUR MOM! HA!"

Not being rude.  Any class I've ever been involved in has required reading and research.
So, while the answers are not only at your fingertips, via google, You probably have a text book with all of these answers, which only needs to be read.

Taking a class, then not doing the work, is pointless.

sterling42 reacted to Aereldor in 240GB SSD for $75
The OCZ Trion and PNY CS1311 240/250GB SSDs can often be had for cheaper, and those are pretty fast. The Crucial BX200 isn't slower than an HDD by any stretch of the imagination (unless you have two buildings full of WD Velociraptors in Raid 0), but despite its decent read speeds, it suffers from comparatively poor write speeds for an SSD, along with a higher failure rate than some other drives, making it less reliable than the aforementioned OCZ and PNY alternatives as well.

Right click on the Movies folder (example C:/Users/Name), go to properties, find the location tab and there will be a text box to change where it goes. Just do something like D:/movies/

Or in the program you're recording in, just change the default save location.
