No I do not intent to use VM for this, I'll install truenas with the Plex plug-in I'll store it in the basement so noisy fans don't bother me. A htpc is a nice idea but not something I would want right now because my smart tv has everything thing I need on it including steam link which works perfectly for me. I'll be picking the upgrades you recommended. Thank you for your advice

Hey I want to get a NAS and i want to build it myself and install truenas on it. The main purpose of the Nas will be Plex streaming ( 1080p with at most 4 Concurrent streams ) and photo storage. This is the PC I have picked so far. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yp9j2m I have a spare ssd from my laptop that I currently use as my Plex server. I'll be using this ssd as the boot drive. I do not know if I need a m.2 ssd for caching so I haven't picked one out. I haven't picked a GPU because i think the CPU is good enough to transcode the media files in Plex, and the CPU does have Intel graphics so I can install the os. I would like to know if I missed something for a Nas build or that I should change something.

Thank you for your reply. I don't know 100% if his drive is still okay, we'll just give it a shot with plugging it into my PC and than we'll hope for the best I guess.

Hey My friends pc crashed and can't roll back or update windows. But he still has a lot of photos and videos on his :D drive, so want to add his :D drive ( 1 tb HDD ) to my system to try and recover his data. Can I just plug it in to my system and let windows recognize it with disk manager without losing the data on the drive ? Or are their some other steps I have to take to try and recover his data without losing any files on his or mine system ? Thank you in advance for the help -stonedsmurf

i mainly focus on gaming with my pc, i dont spend alot of time using photoshop compared to gaming. so i will be looking into the 8600k i bit more. okay lets forget about it, maybe in a few years with a complete new build. the LEDs are nice but i dont care much for rgb inside my case, so i think i can find some cheaper RAM indeed. i made this post to orientate myself for my upgrade, and you guys helped me alot, i think ill save up some more money and upgrade to the 8600k with faster RAM in a few months thank you so much

hey a couple of weeks ago i have bought my self the logitech g910 keyboard and so far i like it very much, but their is one downside for me. i bought the keyboard for the extra programmable macro keys on the side and on the top. the main reason i wanted them is for for world of warcraft and i want to bind spells on it which i do not use very often. but i cannot program them in any game. when i installed the software for the keyboard it searched for installed games to download the games profile ( for quick macro setup etc ) i have tried rebinding them to other keys ( IE G1 to numpad 5 and make ingame ( WoW ) numpad 5 a hotkey ) but that does not work in WoW or in windows ( in .txt files or word ) i have tried using the quick macros from the WoW profile ( IE: cast hotbar slot 1, auto run ) they do not work either. i also tested it with GTA V and tera, also both without any luck on getting them to work i also tried it with the MR ( macro record ) key * MR *G1 *NUMpad 5 *MR this does also not work in WoW or in a text file. i have also tried it with locking the WoW gaming profile in the logitech gaming software, this does also not work for me but i can use them in windows to launch programs ( google chrome, spotify, battle.net and steam etc ) so the keys are not broken. i have made a ticket on the logitech support site, they cannot help me because i have tried everything they told me to do. i also called logitech holland support, i had a 35 min phonecall with one of their operators and he came to the conclusion the Gkeys are broken ( which they are not because i can progam them to launch programs which i mention before ) i am running the latest logitech gaming software which is version 8.76 so can anyone please help me or should i just return the keyboard to the store and ask for a new g910 ? TL;DR cannot program the Gkeys in games but can program them to launch programs in windows. greets stonedsmurf =)
