  1. Yes, as mentioned I will be using Plex, which will transcode videos ranging from 1GB-40GB in video sizes
  2. I'm willing to spend, if it is worth spending. So ranging from $150-$400
  3. Well I'm putting it into a Fractal R4, so size isn't an issue. I guess the most important factor would come down to bang for the buck and # of SATA ports
  4. Interesting, it does not. Guess I'll use the motherboard for the main PC then. Any recommended motherboards for FreeNAS?
  5. So I'm building a FreeNAS, and planning on moving some of my existing parts into the FreeNAS so I can get some upgrades on my main PC as well. My main PC runs mainly 2 monitors (2560x1440 and 1920x1200). I do game at 1440p and play the wide variety of titles like The Witcher, Assasins Creed, to DOTA and CS:GO. Budget right now is still up in the air. Main PC Case: Looking for a case with a window - Thoughts on NZXT H440? Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z87 - Already Owned CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K - Already Owned CPU Cooler: {Corsair AIO Liquid Cooling?} GPU: Asus GTX 770 - Already Owned RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengenance Pro 1866 MHz - Already Owned PSU: Corsair HX850 - Already Owned The FreeNAS is mainly storage for my TV Shows, movies, and backups of all the computers in the house (4 other computers). The FreeNAS will also be streaming videos to the Chromecast and thru Plex. File sizes on the TV Shows vary from 1GB-40GB. FreeNAS Case: Fractal Design R4 - Already Owned Motherboard: CPU: CPU Cooler: BeQuiet Dark Rock 2 - Already Owned GPU: N/A RAM: {Is it that important to have ECC RAM?} PSU: Hard Drives: 1 x WD Red 3TB - Already Owned 2 x WD Red 3TB - Planned to Purchase The WD Reds will cost me $300CDN, hoping to find a silient PSU for $100 or less. RAM and CPU pricing are up in the air. Recommendations would be great. With all this in mind, I plan to keep the sound from the computer to a minimal if at all possible.

  7. Gotta love that lock and volume button position and of course the 1440p screen
  8. So what I gather is that I need to buy a Intel NIC. I currently have 2x WD Red drives, which I plan to possible run in RAID1, but as more storage needs grow, I would probably want to run a RAID5, would you guys recommend this solution or is there some other solution that would be better?
  9. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01423730#N296 There is actually 6GB of DDR2 RAM on the one I have. I happen to have a old HP computer lying around collecting dust. I was just wondering with the existing hardware, would it be suitable for runing FreeNAS or some other sort of NAS software.
  10. Gotta love them boomsound speakers
  11. Leaning towards: the ASUS PA248Q, thoughts?
  12. Any keypoints on gaming on a TN panel compared to a IPS?
  13. Is there any notable differences when its comes to gaming on an IPS though? My only fear is that the IPS monitor will make my current TN monitors look terrible
  14. I currently have two displays Samsung SyncMaster SA300 LG Flatron W2243T The question I have is that since both of my existing monitors are TN panels (I think they're TN panels anyways...) would it look widley different if I add an IPS monitor? I do a wide range of things on my desktop such as gaming, video editing and photoshop and just watching videos in general. I've been leaning towards a Benq monitor if I were to go with a TN gaming monitor but I've also looked at the Asus variety of IPS and TN panels.
