God Damn that's impressive for a 4790K. Voltages are also impressive.

Got my EK Predator 360 and allowed me to push my i7-4790k to 4.9GHz @ 1.285v. but I am semi stable at 5.0GHz but hat 1.39v.

You need to worry about the motherboard pins and not the CPU. Like Windspeed said have the contact side facing up, had a 3770k sitting on my desk for months and it was fine.

How and why did you have $8k worth of CPU's just laying around?
-
Ptopman reacted to TheKDub in Storing a CPU for 2 minutes.
Just leave it in the socket, that way nothing falls into it.
If you're deadset on removing it, just set it down on a piece of cardboard or something that doesn't conduct electricity.
-
Ptopman reacted to That_Random_Guy in Storing a CPU for 2 minutes.
i would assume placing it on a piece of cardboard face down would be ok since they say building a mobo on them is fine but is there really a need to remove it? that only raises the chance of you messing up the pins when you reinstall it

You don't need to take it out though.

They're not as delicate as people think. Did anyone see the video where Linus's son was building a PC? The part where he grabbed it like only a young child would... scared some AMD users I bet
(*because they have the pins on the CPU, and ... well, just go watch it )

Ptopman reacted to thekeemo in Storing a CPU for 2 minutes.
Dont take it out there is no need you just unscrew the backplate no tension on the CPU needed
last time I took out a CPU to clean it I ended up selling a $350 mobo for $60

Ptopman reacted to Benji_w in Storing a CPU for 2 minutes.
Clean off the thermal paste, remove, lay it down on a table... swap your back plate. It will be fine, you're not rubbing it on a cat or anything.

Ptopman reacted to ALwin in how many hours of 1080p 60fps video can 32GB hold
OK I checked some data and the D3300 seems to record at 38Mbps for 1080@60p according to a comment on this website
http://nofilmschool.com/2014/01/nikon-d3300-dslr-1080p-60fps-d4s
Hence with that in mind if every second of recorded footage was constant at 38Mbps you're looking at about 1 hour and 46 minutes worth of video on a 32GB memory card. This is just an estimate and I am rounding some numbers, because variable bit rate means that some moments of the video will take up less storage space than other moments. So there will always be a +/- to the estimate.
Also due to FAT32 file system limits, the camera is very likely to break up the video into chunks of 4GB each.
My initial estimate of 160 minutes comes from what was stated here
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1023353-REG/nikon_1532_d3300_dslr_camera_with.html
1920 x 1080
@ 60 fps: 20 min.
So I assumed each 20 min was a 4GB chunk.

Ptopman got a reaction from W-L in gorilla glass eye glass leses?
Agreed, I worked at a wood/metal shop and we used Z87+ grade workshop glasses. They felt like cheap plastic but one guy was using the lathe at 1000-1500rpm when his work came off and got him in the face. The glasses had scratches but they did not break and saved his eyes. The rest of his face was pretty beat up but he recovered.
The worst that can happen is if they snap but they don't shatter. With glass (of any kind) there will be shattering and pieces can get into your eye.
Now where I could see this is everyday eye ware but i'm pretty sure they have some pretty tough glasses out on the market.
Edit: its rated at Z87+, This means that they are tested for a 1/4 steel ball shot at the lens at a velocity of 205mph at 300ft without breaking. As well a high mass test of a pointed 500 gram weight dropped from 5 feet onto the glasses.

Ptopman got a reaction from TheProfosist in This or compressed air cans?
I have the data vac and love it, its blows clean hot air. My problem with the cans of air is that they can blow air with condensation and are flammable. Also, air compressors are a big no no, if you set the air too high you can blow caps and other components right off your motherboard, and after awhile, the compressor starts to accumulate water inside that can be blown out onto your components.
