  1. Hmm the headache sounds really interesting ! Looks really interesting the things you suggest! Makes me think about the different ways to use the LEDs. The LED's we used in this build are these: And We've used a small controller from Aqua computer the Farbwerk. We got it at www.highflow.nl! Here is the link to the product! http://www.highflow.nl/modding/leds/led-rgb/aqua-computer-farbwerk-usb-bluetooth-version-53171.html For Rinzler the key ingredient were the LED's to light up the edges of the plexiglas but its very interesting to experiment a bit with the possibilities! Maybe LEDs responding to temperature changes?! So another Update! First thing the Identity Disks Taking them apart After Before Fitting the components into the frame Even when you use the lasercutter you always have to adjust a lot by hand. Pixel found his own special job... "re"-placing the LEDs RGB LED Making some aluminium mounting plates. Everything will be screwed together so you can take it apart again when ever you want + it looks cool! The Frame that holds the motherboard and radiator is held in place endless adjusting The radiator in the top frame A nice and crystal clear looking build so far !
  2. Haha thanks Stefan!! That's a very creative comment ! Yes the RGB Lighting! That was something that had to be involved as we used the MSI GODLIKE motherboard, so now I can use te fancy disco mode when I have a party haha ! (always very usefull...?) So here is the next buildlog update, I will go though these quite quickly so you will see a lot of progress this upcoming week ! This is a short video I made of the cutting of the self adhesive foil! A quick test to see if the RGB lights work in real life (not only in my mind.. ) The X99A GODLIKE Gaming motherboard Fans & Poswersupply Look at that tiny power supply! Pixel is almost the same size Graphicscard In the design I wanted to add the Identity disks they all wear in the movie. I was looking for them on the internet but the were crazy expensive!! Then I found these console rechargers in the shape of the Identity disks! I figured I could just make them into fancy flashy frisbee like killing devices ! Here are the Rinzler and GODLIKE name tags again, now to test them I will cover one with self adhesive foil. Just a test to check if my idea will actually work ! As you can see "rinzler" lights up pretty good ! The SSD & RAM The Radiator & Blocks Fancy tweezers Testing the hardware
  3. Yes ! Rinzler is also my absolute favorite track on the Tron Legacy Album! I had to use that track in the movie otherwise it would not have been right haha! Thanks!
  4. Cool!! Thank you all so much for the kind comments ! Much more 'sexy' coming up !!
  5. Hi My name is Femke Agnes Toele or as you may know me; F.A.T. 27 years old and I have a passion for casemodding. Lately I’ve been working together with my buddy Tenzin Rongen, we are a great team (FAT - Femke And Tenzin? ). Tenzin is 29 years old and a industrial design student at the university of Rotterdam. He can do and make almost anything! We are both gold and silversmiths by profession in the Netherlands and have our own businesses. Through out the years we have collected a great deal of tools and materials to work with. In a big workshop we make our designs come to life. This is a Tron Legacy inspired build, my favorite movie of all time ! Below I made a short video of the result because the build is already finished! It had to remain secret until the MSI PRO MOD Season 2 competition started! ( if you already love it you can vote on the MSI Global FB page ! if you don't ... maybe the buildlog will change your mind?! haha ) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1006126192742544.1073741906.123693947652444&type=3 The design: Using the lasercutter to engrave Rinzler Bending the plexiglas base in its shape. The lasercut frame that will hold the motherboard on top of the base Self adhesive foil I ordered to make the build look like the black suits in the movie First time putting the elements together And ofcourse pixel has to check the quality of everything Bits power send a lot of beautiful fittings! Look at this cool name tag The base

Annnnddddd.... another Update! After the "self-adhesive-foil-adventure" (great book title BTW) Time to fit in the hardware! Aluminium bars to hold the radiator in place, making the thread and than screwing the radiator onto them. The Cooler Master Nepton 240 It was a tight fit with all the cables but in the end everything fits perfectly!! And a very nice package arrived from Avexir! For the Aegis and Atlas ! Now I only need to do the finishing touches to the case and build in the hardware! Next update the final pictures, I've made quite a few last week, so stay tuned !
  8. Thank you very much for that great compliment ! I'm currently working on two other builds, one is the Aegis and the other the Atlas. I still need to start the buildlog for the atlas but the aegis is already online !

Haha Yes loads of cosplay there! I really enjoyed that, a lot of really cool costumes! No the PSU is still Black, I didn't paint it. because of the blau LED lights it looks blue! I will upload more pictures later where you can see it clearly without the LED light ! Thats Pixel my parrotlet! He always with me when I do the modding, sitting on my shoulder and (in his opinion) helping me .. ! haha

After a short break I'm back ! Gamecsom was awesome! It was a crazy busy week (and the week before of course, finishing everything ), but completely worth it!! I was so happy I survived the teenage zombies and..I've made a short 'after' movie! And a few pictures of the Aegis and the Atlas, the other build I'm working on! (more about that one in his own new buildlog..comingsoon) Now, On with the buildlog because I've made a lot of pictures! Ok where were we again.. Applying the self adhesive foil (Pixel was completely obsessed with the plastic tool to straighten out the foil ) You can't really see it here on this picture, but on the backside of the plexiglas you can see the foil opening up. Doesn't look very clean so I've added some black cardboard to the back of the letters which made it look really good! Also the SSD's get their own very special place The SSD's and some lasercut fluor edge plexiglas to go with them (still need some work so don't worry)

Thanks guys ! So, another quick update, after the Gamescom stress officially has started to kick in I took the Bitfenix Spectre PRO Fans out of there frame and used a file to round all the edges, so the fans will fit nicely into the wooden frame. Below you can see the wooden frames for the fans they will be places on both sides next to the MB. Ofcourse Pixel has to check if it is done correctly.. (maybe there are any sunflower seeds there, you never know...) This is a rough idea of what it will look like (you just need some imagination ) Small aluminium brackets to hold the wooden frames with the fans in place. These are all of the frames that need to be painted black on the backside and wrapped in black self adhesive foil on the front. That was it for today, next update is the self-adhesive-foil-adventure (sounds so exciting.... <_< )

Dankjewel ! We don't want to give in on the usability of the case so we will be using the original panels, but modify them of course . Thanks ! It gets better !

Because today I'm really in the 'Update'-mood.. Yes, another Update ! In the last post I didn't really mention the motherboard we are going to use. So this is the one, it was in the price package for Polar (lucky me ). Cut out wooden panels with a lasercutter to fit in- & outside the case. The great thing about the Spectre PRO fans is the two-part frame. You can take them apart easily. The fans will then be mounted inside the panels. It almost look like speakers, don't you think? Using a file to give an edge to the wooden panel so it will fit together nicely. Cut out a big hole on the backside of the case. This will be covered up with the 'Aegis' panel that was cut with the laser. Air can flow through the Bitfenix logo out of the case. Made a small attachment thingy (bracket?) haha This is what it looks like now with a lot of the panels in place. And here is just one quick shot with the power supply!

Annndd another project ! Bitfenix asked us to build 2 rigs for GamesCom 2015 in Cologne Germany. Ofcourse we're super excited! This is the first buildlog the other one ... is a secret (for now) We've chosen to use the Funky Blue Aegis with a display on the frontside. The deadline is the 5th of august so we don't have much time left for two complete systems ! So lets start !! First a video we've made to show you what we are planning on doing! The first packages to arrive, Thank you very much Richard!! The first thing we are doing is flipping the case 90 degrees, and so the 'feet' have got to come to the 'front'. To fit an ATX motherboard in this Micro-ATX case we had to remove some material. To get the case steady again we added an aluminium profile and secured it with rivets. Like it has always been there, after spray painting it black. The eye-catcher of this build is the Bitfenix Fury Powersupply which has a very nice topcover! Looks very neat! This is just a quick preview of the layout for the case. Next update will be a lot of 'case-management'

Simple answer, because everybody else in the contest chose a 'green' theme build and I really like blue  Ofcourse I love to give you some hints ! 1. 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 2. August 3. Cologne... 4. short amount of time... I think that must be enough and one picture to complete it

Haha thanks ! I'm glad that you like it, I was afraid I was going to disappoint you with this build! Thank you ! Great! Ofcourse I have something else planned.. !! That is why I posted this buildlog so quickly, so I can start a new one maybe.. next week ! Thanks! We had some basic CAD software at school, this particular render of the haf stacker was made by someone else, we only modified it to our design ! Yes, the sand thing was quite easy and came out really well! Happy you like it as well !

    Polar by FAT

Yes you are right! Because it is an ECO build, we didn't want to use a GPU because of the high power usage. And to highlight the motherboard more Haha, does is sound like that?!

    Polar by FAT

There are no cables to sleeve ! The 3D printed cable caps will lead all of the cables under the motherboard so you will not see any cables. Without the cables the motherboard looks very clean and simple. Hope you like the result! So, I've posted this buildlog really quickly, because there is more stuff coming up! This is already the final post on Polar! Hope you like the result! I made a clip of the process of building Polar, enjoy ! Hope you liked it, let me know what you think about the build !

    Polar by FAT

Thanks! I will add some extra colour to the motherboard in the end to make it more Polar-style ! Thanks Next up is making all of the pieces fit together. This took the most time and is a very tedious proces since there are so many parts to fit together! A lot of sand went into it that we had to filter to get a nice even finish. Here are the first pieces coming together, it's looking good! That was one side, now the other side! Drilling holes to fit the motherboard. We want a very clean look so the least amount of visible cables. First cut of the 'old' sleeving. testing the hardware Everything fitted with nice looking steel bolts! We 3D printed covers for the psu and sata cables, the drawings were made in Solidworks. This gives it a really clean look! Lots of details for the motherboard and front of the case. The 3D printed covers: [img width=450 height=600]http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u601/femketoele/P6156230_zpsuaj2xwfq.jpg All of the plexiglass details were cut from Fluor edge Blue plexiglass that gives it a very 'Polar' look to it. And to make it better all of the edges have been polished by hand. Here is an example of the MSI ECO logo: Final task is mounting the LED's and test them. It is alive!

Thanks for the nice comments guys! ANNNDDD an other update ! Usually I cut out everything by hand but with these tiny details the lasercutter is perfect! Pixel tests every piece, cutting up the front and top panels so they fit the slimmed down case. First masking it with tape and then cutting them by hand and check if they fit. putting it back together Then to give the wooden panels a cool finish a made a test piece using black spray paint and real sahara sand from Egypt! Checking if everything fits before painting. Then first a primer and then the black paint and sand. The real eye-catchers of the case are the blue plexiglass bubbels. To make this I first needed a frame to press the heated plexiglass in. it worked really well! Ready to paint it black! To finish it of we put in the inlays of CM & MSI logos, looks sweet! All along the seem of the panels we made a cool CM style belt for the front and top of the case. all done! hope you like the looks of it

Time for another update ! We used a lasercutter to cut out the side panels out of wood. Below you can see a short clip about the cutting! Time to put together the frame again with aluminium extrusion profile and rivets! The laser cut wooden side panels are glued together in the right angle. And here you can actually see how much has been cut out. A big difference! So here is where the experiment begins... To melt the plexiglas into the form we had to heat it in the oven (without burning it ) and immediately form it before it cooled down. So here are the test pieces; Worked really well! So now ... on to the real deal !

Thanks for the nice comments ! I will be posting the complete buildlog during this week so it will be updated quickly ! Thanks! Yes it is a good looking MoBo! Pixel is a parrotlet, so he should be really intellegent   Yes, the case in general is very big ! The case was sponsored bij Coolermaster for this contest and it had to be recognizable as a HAF Stacker 935 in the final design. All the contestants had to use both parts of the case, so it will be big ! Hope you like the outcome!

    Polar by FAT

Hi My name is Femke Agnes Toele a.k.a. FAT. You might know my work from 'Little Scratch' from ECS Modmen Contest and 'Flux' from the Bit-Tech Intel NUC contest of this year. I have build 'Polar" together with Tenzin who is an Industrial Design student in Rotterdam. Initially 'Polar' was build for the Hardware.info Masters of Modding competition. Wich we won! And now it has been selected for the MSI PRO MOD Final round. If you like it you can cast your vote on the MSI Global Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/MSIHQFANCLUB?fref=ts First the design! For the competition there was an 'ECO' theme so we took our inspiration from the north pole, ice bergs and glaciers. The Olympic swimming pool in Bejing has these amazing shapes wo we incorporated those 'bubbels' in our design. The whole build is based on the huge Coolermaster HAF Stacker 935. Below you can see the renders for the design; These are the packages we received from MSI and Coolermaster! Always fun to unpack the boxes Lets start with taking everything off the HAF stacker. In this video you can see the strip down of the case. The first big thing we did was cut out 80mm of the case, right down the middle! After that the whole case was very flimsy so it's gonna take some work to get it back to shape and strong again. Bit it will be worth it. Slimming down the case this way really brings out the best of the hardware! Next up is the motherboard! Again in the ECO theme. After unpacking we could measure everything up and start cutting the panels. Our mascot 'pixel' always likes to help out [img width=450 height=600]http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u601/femketoele/P2180128_zpsmmhojld2.jpg From now on no more destroying but building!
