  1. My first ever gaming laptop that I purchased after working my arse off two and a half years in IT, fresh out of college. It is an HP Pavilion Gaming 15 with a Ryzen 5 3550H and GTX1650. Any other laptop with a GTX1650Ti or more was around 200USD more than this one, so I settled for the normal GTX1650. This is a huge upgrade for me, coming from gaming at 1366x768 with an Mx150, to actually having a system capable of playing at 1080p near Ultra settings. I chucked in my previous laptop's 16GB RAM stick and this one now has a total of 24GB and a 512GB NvMe SSD. The difference between SATA and NVme is night and day, once I have actually experienced now. Would have liked the keyboard backlight to be either RGB or white atleast, but, to me performance and cooling matters much more than the lighting. Edit: The photo quality just went from great to potato. This was taken on a Pixel 2 XL. Does the forum compress photos?
  2. Sorry, kind of a storage noob here, but are there chances of this affecting SSD prices for consumers? I have been eyeing a 1TB SATA SSD for my laptop that I want to buy around December. Would be nice to see it be a little more cheaper.
  3. That looks weird. Did you install all the drivers? I see the display is probably not in the correct resolution. You should be able to find the latest drivers from HPs website. Try installing the drivers, mainly any chipset and video drivers, reboot the system, and see if that solved any of the above issues.
  4. @Tyme Can you share screenshots of both the Memory and CPU tabs under the Performance tab of task manager? That would help us figure out what the issue might be.
  5. Hello everyone! A little background: I currently have an Acer Aspire A515-51G with the following specs: Intel Core i5 8250u Nvidia Geforce Mx150 2GB GDDR5 1TB WD Blue HDD 20GB DDR4 2600MHZ RAM 240GB WD Green M.2 SATA SSD 1366x768 TN Panel Matte LCD display My parents got me this laptop when I was just out of college and about to go into my first job to a different city. I use this laptop for my office work by connecting to VPN and also for gaming. I know, people might not approve, but I have played some very heavy AAA games on this, Detroit: Become Human, all the Battlefields from 3 and up, most of the Call of Duty up until the recent WW2, NFS Heat, The Witcher 3 and currently invested in Apex Legends. I have kept my expectations in check with such hardware though and have played most of the latest games at lowest settings just to get a playable FPS and until now I was happy. But after the Apex Legends Season 6 launched and included many more items in the world, my GPU can't keep up anymore. Frequent dips to below 30 are very common and I have to prop up my laptop so that it does not thermal throttle, which it does quite a bit during gaming. I was thinking of getting a new laptop with a proper gaming GPU and CPU and also a good screen as the TN panel has been very bad on this one. Now that I can pay for my own laptop, I have around 58k Indian Rupees or roughly 800 USD to spend. I am looking at online retailers (Flipkart and Amazon) for the laptops and have found this one to be the perfect: HP Pavilion Gaming Ryzen 5 GTX 1650 This one has a 1080p IPS screen, GTX 1650 and a dual fan design with a Ryzen 5 3550H processor. This appears to be a huge upgrade for me. I plan to use the 16GB RAM stick from my current laptop and also the SSD. Will this one be a good laptop? We currently seem to be experiencing shortage of laptops here and this seems to be the best bet. I know about the Ryzen 4000 series, but they are more than 250USD costlier than this one. Does anyone have this laptop and can share their experience with it? Thanks in advance! EDIT: I am based in India and would like to purchase from the online retailers: Flipkart.in or Amazon.in
  6. Hey! I really wanted to try this out to see if it works and I am fine with purchasing a few games in it since at this point it is much cheaper for me to try this out playing a couple of games than buying a new gaming laptop. So, if you're not using it, can you please give the code for this trial? I also have YT Premium, but I did not get the code. Thanks in advance!
  7. That's pretty neat. This is the first time I am learning of this. Thanks for the explanation! I was also wondering, would it be a big difference between the performance of 8GB dual channel and 12GB single channel?
  8. Hi people! I have an Acer Aspire A515-51G laptop with the following specs: Intel Core i5-8250u Nvidia GeForce MX150 2GB GDDR5 1TB WD Blue HDD 240 GB M.2 WD Green SATA SSD 4GB soldered 2400MHz + 16GB Crucial 2400MHz I just installed 16GB 2400MHz RAM into the only slot in the laptop that came fitted with a 4GB module. Earlier, the 4+4 memory was running in dual channel mode, checked it via CPUz. I was afraid that me purchasing the 16GB stick would probably make the RAM run in Single channel mode, but I went ahead with the upgrade since it would have helped with my office work when I have to run multiple applications, multiple instances of Visual Studio, Chrome tabs etc. However, I installed the RAM, making a total of 20GB, fired up CPUz, and low and behold, the Memory tab still shows channel # as Dual. What happened here? I read everywhere that I would have to get a same speed, same size and same latency RAMs in order to make it run in Dual channel mode, but here I just have the RAM with same frequency and latency. Then how is this still in Dual channel?
  9. Even if it does turn out that I am running in single channel, I am still leaning more towards RAM capacity as compared to dual channel. I don't think it would be worth to buy a similar 4GB stick to get dual channel config.
  10. I will try CPU-Z when I get home. However, I do not have another RAM stick that matches the original's speed, timings or capacity.
  11. Wouldn't 20GB be more, sorry have to use the F-word, future proof? I could probably also take this stick to any new machine that I would be upgrading to around Dec 2020-Jan 2021.
  12. Hi people! I have an Acer Aspire A515-51G laptop with the following specs: Intel Core i5-8250u Nvidia GeForce MX150 2GB GDDR5 1TB WD Blue HDD 240 GB M.2 WD Green SATA SSD 4GB soldered 2400MHz + 4GB ADATA 2133MHz DDR4 I recently found out that the only RAM slot in the laptop has infact only 4GB stick, and other 4GB is soldered onto mainboard. I was thinking of upgrading the RAM, however I am confused about what RAM capacity to go for. If I got an 8GB stick, it totals to 12GB, which I do not think to be an upgrade enough from current 8GB. If I got a 16GB stick, i totals to 20GB, which would be a significant upgrade, but costs about double the 8gb stick. I play games and multitask a lot, not at the same time though, and some games that I play such as BFV and NFS Payback/Heat stutter sometimes, even if installed onto the SSD. Also, I play a lot of BF1 multiplayer. Which one do you think would be better for my case?
  13. Oh that's sad. I actually liked Cortana when I was using a Windows Phone. She was really fun to talk with and had a great natural speech, at a time when Android and iOS assistants still sounded robotic. I hope they keep it optional on Windows 10 though.
  14. Measurements of? You're gonna need to be more specific then that. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  15. Yeah. Sure. But I meant that from a UI and installed apps perspective. OP specifically mentioned hating the interface on Pixel devices because of being bloated while wanting to own a Samsung device which are known for their clunky UI and multiple apps for same purpose, one from Google and other from Samsung.
  16. Wow! That's the first time I have heard about Pixel phones getting bloated by Google. I mean, Pixels are probably the cleanest Android phones that you can find. And also, you are considering Samsung phones, even though you dislike clunky interfaces? Have you tried a Samsung before?
  17. Mediocre in what departments? I mean, the performance will surely be better in GV62, in case of thermals and overall build quality, I guess it just is a necessary sacrifice if OP cares about performance aspect only.
  18. I see you have not mentioned Flipkart.com. Is there an issue with flipkart? Or personal preference. Becuse there are many more choices for laptops with 1050Ti on flipkart and under very reasonable prices. For Example - Asus TUF Series i5 8th gen availale for 79990 INR Oh and this one looks almost perfect with 16GB Ram i7 8th gen and a 1060 - MSI GV Series available for 87990
  19. I use TrueCaller to find out unknown callers on my Android device but without the app since it builds its database off of people's contacts. So if a person has saved Grandpa Linus as a contact name for some number, it is very much possible that I may see the same name for the number if I search in Truecaller. So does this mean an end for such apps (eventually Truecaller) for the iOS devices? That might be pretty hugh since Truecaller is a big name in caller ID apps.
  20. Inb4 people selling these fake RAM as legit RAM sticks on ebay for their original price and calling it a day. ?
  21. Yeah well! I guess I'll get a wireless USB adapter then, since the WiFi mode seems to be working fine. And then hop on to a new router if there's any trouble there. Thanks for the help!
  22. Thanks for the quick reply! I am already on the latest BIOS available for my motherboard, Gigabyte H81M-S, and the ethernet controller is built into the board itself. So, it looks like the router is at fault right? Also I have noticed this has been happening since around the time my ISP upgraded the internet speed to 10 mbps. Earlier it used to be 4 mbps. Yet the router is connected to internet for days without fault except when I start up my PC.
