  1. Any specific mobo recommendations in line with the price point of the i5 6500?
  2. Went ahead and ordered the classified. Can't wait! Thanks for the input.
  3. Okay, then I guess we should move on. Are there any other cards worth considering at the price point? Any worthy competition to the classified?
  4. As a previous owner of an EVGA, I have no doubt about their quality. Seems as everyone is more or less on the same page. Would there be any reason to give the Strix any points for a higher memory clock and potentially better cooling?
  5. Looking into the classified's level of noise. Not a noise freak here, but I don't want a jet engine either.
  6. Classified: https://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-4998-KR Strix: https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/STRIXGTX980TIDC3OC6GD5GAMING/ Looking to buy 980ti for less than $660 before tax. So far this is what I have narrowed my search down to. Does anyone have any experience with these cards to share that would be of assistance in making a choice? From what I have seen, I don't think I could go wrong with either, but I am leaning towards the classified. Also open to other options below $660 if I have missed them. Here is a breakdown of the basic specs. Strix: Base clock: 1190Mhz, Boost clock: 1291Mhz Memory clock: 7200Mhz (DDR2) 375W consumption 12+2 power phase $649.99 - Amazon Classified: Base clock: 1190Mhz, Boost clock: 1291Mhz Memory clock: 7010Mhz 300W consumption 14+3 power phase $659.99 - Amazon Any opinions would be great, thank you!
  7. I just posted a similar topic here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/510886-upgrading-gpu-will-mobo-andor-cpu-need-upgrade/ Nobody so far seemed to think that there would be any bottlenecking issue. Do you have any evidence of bottlenecking or are you not getting the performance you are expecting on your system?
  8. It seems as though the consensus is that the MOBO and cpu would be sufficient. Thanks for the advice all! I have an 240gb intel 730 series SSD. Couldn't agree more! Keeping my eye on 1TB SSDs for sales; maye one day. It's unfortunate that there is a lack of reviews comparing the 980 ti and fury x post crimson drivers. I have seen a few reviews showing higher fps in some games with crimson, but would like to see some reviews that focus on screen tearing issues (or fixes) at higher resolutions for the fury x with crimson drivers in place. Thank you for your guidance. Without completely converting this topic into a GPU discussion, I am also considering 980ti considering I plan to use a single card. Like I mentioned earlier in this reply, I would like to see some reviews for known screen tearing issues on the fury x with crimson drivers before I can completely commit one way or the other.
  9. I will be upgrading soon from a HD 7870 to R9 Fury X. Obviously I will need a power supply upgrade, but will I also need to bring my CPU/MOBO up to par? I will admit that of all the components purchased for this build, the least research went into my MOBO so I am in the complete dark about this. From what I know of my MOBO, it is a hardy board with good cooling (mosfet heatsinks, maybe more?) and should withstand decent CPU overclocking if necessary. But of course, I am open to upgrading it as well. My expectations for the CPU is that it should not cause any performance issues unless faced with CPU intensive games, but I would like to hear your opinions on the matter. For reference: PC will be used for The Witcher 3 (1440p soon with new monitor), development/using Oculus for 3D adapted games or oculus titles, and various AAA titles (i.e.GTA V, Rainbow Six: Seige).
