  1. Thanks to everyone who had replies and suggestions that I can try.
  2. So many rigs I see today no longer have any optical drive. But a lot of the games that I have require the CD/DVD to be in the drive to be able to play the game. What is my solution?
  3. With so many browser tabs spend your money on a large monitor. Even an i3 will be fine on the internet.
  4. Numlock21 gave me a link to a cool little template that will point me towards CPU coolers that might fit but I think the template is a few years old so not of the current coolers are printed on it. The EVO was about $40 CND so I was thinking I should be able to get a similar one (but shorter) for under $50 CND The CPU we are cooling is an i5 6600K on an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard
  5. Numlock21: thanks for the mention of the DepthChecker and setting me on the right track. . I never knew it existed I am sure it will be super helpful..
  6. I am not trying to fit all the old Alienware pieces into a new case, I am trying to fit new components into the old Alienware case. And pwn_intended, the Alienware P2 chassis case that I have has a standard ATX Nvidia motherboard in it.
  7. Well, the original plan was to have the retro Alienware case because it is such a cool old case. It's not just a square plastic box. I know just getting a new case is an option, but it's just not my first option.
  8. I have all new parts to put into my Area 51 Tower case: Motherboard, CPU, Power Supply, SSD, HD, NVidia GPU. The problem is the side panel won't go on when the Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler is installed. The Alienware case is so huge it never occurred to me that the 212 EVO would be too tall I have tried looking on Newegg for different coolers but the sizing is all over the map - inches vs mm, but some descriptions say 4.6 x 2 x 6.3 but don't tell what dimensions are which. Can someone recommend a good cooler for overclocking that is 1/2 to an 1" shorter than the Hyper 212 EVO?
  9. Please do a video on housekeeping that can and can't be done after I clone Windows 10 from my HDD to my SSD. My SSD is only 256 MB and after deleting a bunch of apps (pre clone) I am only down to 100 GB (yikes) - Win10 restore points (was set after the clone to use 100% of my SSD (Yikes) I deleted a bunch of restore points ad set the maximum to 10% of 256GB, but can I MOVE the restore points off the SSD to one of the HDD? Google says I can't and I am stuck to either not having any restore points, or having them stored on the SSD (poop) - My Documents, My Music, My photos - SSD pre clone I moved all the contents to a USB drive for safe keeping and to reduce the size of windows. Now that SSD is installed I do not want these folders back on my SSD. Is it easy to move them and if so HOW? - Pre SSD clone I uninstalled all my games, and every app that I did not use everyday (Firefox, Video rippers, torrenting) After SSD I plan to reinstall these but not on SSD but rather on to one of the HHD. Is this possible? It used to be possible everytime aoftware was installed to specify where it was installed. Still the case in Windows10?) - Pre SSD clone I did NOT delete Steam but I did delete a lot of my games that took up about 5GB each. If I leave Steam on the SSD and reinstall all the games my SSD is going to be almost full. I though I would be able to have the games I use a lot on the SSD and those I play less frequently on the HHD. But I guess this is NOT possible???? What other things have I not stumbled on yet that will fill up my SSD (I did find how to move the default DOWNLOAD folder for photos, documents, videos, etc off of the SSD onto a HDD The steps in preparing for the SSD clone, the actual cloning is only part of the procedure. The housekeeping AFTER the clone is a huge issue and no Youtube videos I could find to help me.
  10. I have a bunch of suggestions about new videos I would like LMG to tackle. Where is the proper place to put these suggestions? I have tried putting suggestions in a video comment but didn't expect that would produce any results or feedback, and that is exactly what happened.
  11. My son and I tried your suggestion today and it worked like a charm. We had to distinguish between the PWR_LED and PWR_SWT but once we figured that out, the two fans came alive, and black screen but after fiddling with the monitor buttons a bit we saw the UEFI screen ad all was well. The next step of the project is to disassemble his 2007 Alienware Area 51 case and see if we can fit everything inside, with all the proprietary stuff going on in there. Thanks so much for your help.
  12. Thanks for your comments. Your reply prompted me to search youtube and I actually found a video made by JJ (I think from ASUS) which explains exactly what you said. You have turned a sad day into a hopeful one, it is very late so we will try your suggestion tomorrow.
  13. Thanks for your quick reply. This is new to me, can you please elaborate? I don't recall youtube videos including this step. I have watched several builds Jays Two Cents, Linus Tech Tips, Paul's Hardware.. Is it standard operating procedure to install CPU, CPU cooler, RAM and Power Supply and Turn on the PS switch and then short out the front panel pins with say a screwdriver?
  14. We turned the system on using the switch on the power supply. The switch was on "O" and we moved it to "|" That caused the LEDs on the motherboard to come on but not the fan on the power supply, not the fan on the CPU cooler, and the EUFI never appeared on the monitor that was connected to the VGA port on the MB backplane

A Tom's hardware post to another user said to try the initial test without RAM to see it that elicits Memory error beep codes so I tried that and no beep codes. We have not connected any video card yet, nor any hard drive, we are only testing the components to get into the BIOS (I guess it is called EUFI now) Took it all apart, cleaned up the thermal good, and put CPU and heat sink back in place just to double check everything. Same results. Anyone have any suggestions? I sent a webmessage to ASUS support but I have no idea how long it would take to get a response if ever. I made the mistake of buying this stuff from NewEgg in early January for an end of Feb birthday and I assume that after 30 days they will not want to hear from me, even though the boxes have remained unopened until today
