  1. You could look here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9046675/convert-a-php-script-into-a-stand-alone-windows-executable I haven't tried any of them though. For what reason(s) do you want to create a desktop app with PHP? It would be best to use a language like C#, VB.Net, Python, which are more appropriate for that which have a better support of desktop apps.
  2. Yeah well it's not locked anymore since I had to remove it while I RMA'd the motherboard, but when it gets back I'll install it, and then clean it off while it's in the socket.
  3. Hey guys, I recently had to RMA my motherboard, so I remove my CPU, but kept the thermal paste on there. Now my motherboard will come back today, and I want to clean the thermal paste off the CPU and the heatsink. I know that it usually involves a paper towel or cloth to remove the biggest part of it, and then you can use a Q-tip with rubbing alchohol to remove what's left. Is it best to put the CPU back in the motherboard socket before I do that? Is there any risk to bend the pins of the CPU/socket if I push too hard - not that I plan to apply a ton of force, but I'd like to know if I have to be super careful and only apply a very light pressure ? I don't really want to do it while holding the CPU in my hand, since it's a bit tricky too hold and I don't want to risk dropping it.

    Rant!

Too bad for them, and good for you if you know better
  5. I think the best thing you can do to get started is read a lot, and watch some Youtube videos. I recommand that you look at the LTT videos, and especially the TechQuickie if you want to learn the basics about stuff like RAID and other concepts/terms. Then, if you're interested, you can learn more, but at least you'll learn enough to get started and have a basic idea of the concept. Other than that it's just reading, and experimenting if you can. Look at the topics on this forum, see what builds people propose to other members, it will be slow at first but eventually you'll get more comfortable. It's a slow process, I used to be up to date with hardware and interested in that, but I just stopped coming here and looking at LTT after I got busy with other stuff, I just came back to here and there are a lot of new things to learn ^^
  6. ^ This, and it also wouldn't hurt to contact Logitech support, they're very helpful!
  7. If it works for laptop, then I don't see why it wouldn't work for desktops as well. Maybe all the articles mention laptops because typically desktops are connected via ethernet, and laptops have built-in Wifi adapters.
  8. Last time I washed my K70 I simply used the tool they provided to remove the keycaps, I washed them in hot water with soap (not in the dishwasher, by hand) and I use a Q-Tip with some alcohol to try and remove the dirt that is on the keyboard itself. I didn't have some compressed air handy, but it would have helped. As for the wrist rest, mine wasn't too bad so I just rubbed it with some hot water/soap once again, and it did a pretty decent job.
  9. I live the G602, I'm not doing any hardcore or competitive gaming so a wireless mouse like that is just fine. A good number of macros, wireless, great battery life, and I like its size/feel. It's one less wire to worry about when you have many peripherals, like a G27 and 1-2 joysticks on your desk. ^^
  10. Unfortunetly my motherboard is being replaced at the moment so I can't go in the BIOS to find it, but it was a pretty obvious name, something like "iGPU multi monitor" or something. I've done a quick search and have seen a similar setting name being mentionned on other websites/threads.
  11. Don't worry about replacing it by a window without holes, most cases come with a solid window or just with a solid panel, without any (or barely any) holes in it.
  12. It worked fine for me, I had my main monitor in the GPU and plugged the secondary one in the iGPU, since I only had VGA cables and only one VGA to DVI converter. I remember that I had to enable something in the BIOS (the motherboard is an ASUS Z87-A), I'll try to find the name of the setting.
  13. Nope, you can "pimp" it (add more/different RAM, swap the HDD for a bigger better one or a SSD, even add an external GPU .. ) but you can't build one from scratch like a PC ... well, you probably can, but not by buying parts seperately and just fitting them in a case.
  14. Not bad config, I wouldn't get a 50$ air cooler for a non-K processor, a 20$ 212EVO will do just find - you could get away with the stock cooler even, if you don't mind the noise. Also, if you're not going to overclock - you can't with that current CPU - then don't waste money on a Z97 chipset. I'd get a bigger SSD, Windows use a lot of space by itself and the programs you mentionned are also quite heavy. For less than 100$ you can get a 240GB+ one. I can't really help you with the rest as I'm not up to date on PC hardware, but I have an i7 (4770K) and 16GB a RAM, I use the programs you mention and I can have 2-3 of them open at the same time without a problem.
  15. I'd go for Logitech, I've owned many gaming and non-gaming peripherals from them and it's always worked well. I've had issues with my G27 and my mom had issues with her keyboard that stopped working, both times the support was amazing and I got replacements in just a few days, no hassle. That being said, I have a K70 keyboard and I love it, more than the G710+ I had previously (but that's mainly because it has Blue switches, and at the time the G710 with Blue didn't exist)
