  1. Thank you for clarifying this. Don't know what I was thinking. Looks like this guide isn't going as well as I thought it would... I made this in the first place to help users start up their own NAS since I always see threads on the forum asking about where to start. Looks like I have a bit of learning to do myself
  2. Did some more research based on feedback and fixed/updated the guide with more information. Let me know if I should touch on anything else!
  3. Thank you for your constructive feedback, I'll work on improving this.
  4. Wow. I can't believe I forgot about that. I'll definitely update that to the guide! Thanks for the feedback!
  5. It seems like more and more people want to get their own NAS these days. I hope this guide answers a few questions you may have and help you make a decision to buy or build your own network attached storage at home, at work, or anywhere else! What is a NAS anyway? Do you really NEED a NAS? What NAS unit should I build/buy? What's the difference between NAS hardware and regular consumer hardware? How much storage should I get? Which Hard Drives / Solid State Drives should I buy? What is RAID? Should I use it? How can I set up RAID? Do I need extra hardware to use it? Should I rely on a RAID method to keep all of my files protected due to redundancy? What Operating System should I use with my NAS? Conclusion/Changelog
  6. That's what I assumed It's a fantastic power supply though! I've been using it in my Home server 24/7 for about 2 months straight. Still going strong
  7. Have this exact power supply and I can say yes, this will work fine. However please note you can't use both cards for games. These cards aren't SLI compatible.
  8. Nope. The RAM is soldered to the motherboard. Oh and if you open up the Blade Stealth with a screwdriver you void your warranty.
  9. If you're willing to go Mini ITX, there's a few more easy options. However they require SFX power supplies, not ATX: Fractal Design Node 202: http://www.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16811352059 Silverstone Raven RVZ01B: http://newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16811163252
  10. No worries! Just didn't want others to be confused. We all have our moments
  11. 2 Factor Authentication in Gmail is about as good as you can get with public email services. Someone correct me if I'm wrong
  12. Just one thing I noticed here... I don't think that's an i7. I think it's an i3. here's what the Sandy Bridge i7 specs looks like: http://ark.intel.com/products/52213/Intel-Core-i7-2600-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz
  13. You could also go with Colorware. They're a bit expensive but they do entirely custom paint jobs/designs and stuff!
  14. What application is it??? I can't think of ANY program that would use this much data on it's own (Obviously massive photos and video can but not the program itself).
  15. I couldn't agree more when Kyle says the fair use system is broken to shit. I've had videos on my old YouTube channel get taken down like 6 months later because I used a song in them that falls under the category of fair use. YouTube NEEDS to get on this. (P.S: I HATE VISO MUSIC!!!)
  16. YES. EXACTLY. That's exactly how you should handle it. Glad you understand that mindset! Don't bother with the past, look towards the future. It's best that way.
  17. That's because it's 2 cards put together. If a 980 is put up against a 690 to a benchmark or game with no SLI support, the 980 would blow that thing out of the water. Plus a 980 is what, $450-ish USD? It's waaaayyyyyy cheaper
  18. Maybe more like $180 - $150 CAD. But it all depends on finding the right person. Hell, I saw someone selling on Ebay selling a GTX 690 for like $700 not too long ago... Someone ended up buying it despite buying 2 GTX 680s would've been way cheaper.
  19. I wanna say you can configure it to use all 8TB or use RAID 1... Don't quote me on that though. And no, it's not false advertisement at all. You're paying for 8TB of hard drive storage.
  20. Pick the one that looks better (The XFX). Plus it's cheaper.

    ULTIMATE CRINGE

It was in General Discussion when I wrote my previous post. It was moved.

    ULTIMATE CRINGE

Before you post anything on this forum, ask yourself this: - Is it related to tech. - Does it have any information or a question in mind. - Does it actually serve a purpose. This post has literally nothing to do with any of the above... maybe ok in off topic, but this is still old.
  23. Here's how: Don't bring yourself down from those mistakes, learn from them. As a Computer Science major in College (basically the definition of a nerd) I remember in high school I was the exact same way. I just moved on. Shit happens. Trust me when I say this: you're not the only person who goes through this stuff. Everyone has had their share of awkward or bad experiences with someone. Don't let the past haunt you, let it educate you. What would you have done differently? Is there anything you could have done differently? Think of these decisions and apply them to the future. And P.S: High school relationships are stupid. Wait till college
  24. All I can say is, good luck. I guess you could try making really cool wallpapers or something and Photoshop stuff into them, like this: (Source: Swedish Skies by Phil2001 http://phil2001.deviantart.com/art/Swedish-Skies-78311558 Then you could try selling your work to Shutterstock or something. That's all I really got. Either that or open a lemonade stand on campus. lol.
  25. This isn't really news... Everyone I know got rid of their Windows Phones. Bank of America is just developing for an unpopular platform, and this also only applies to Americans with Bank of America (Everyone where I live uses Chase, 1stBank, and Wells Fargo)
