  1. Nobody said you had to buy a Titan X or a 5960x...I personally don't have a problem going with an AMD GPU, but if you really wanna play in 4k someday with 2 390x's, Your CPU needs to change, otherwise you're just limiting your performance due to bottlenecking. My recommendation? An i5 would be perfect for a build like this.
  2. The reason we recommend Intel over AMD CPU's so much is because AMD's chips are getting super outdated and usually bottleneck with high end GPU's. That 9590 you want with 2 390x's is gonna bottleneck like crazy.
  3. Sorry OP, but a G3258 alone is already half your budget. If you're really that desperate to build a PC for that low of a budget then Craigslist is your best bet.
  4. It's a long story, but back in the late beta days of Windows 10, people noticed that due to microcode or something in Windows 10, the G3258 wasn't able to overclock or in some cases a core had to be disabled to run Windows 10 without bluescreening.
  5. I managed to get my system up and running a few months ago, but from a fresh install. I'm looking to help my mother upgrade her machine from Windows 7 to 10. I know it varies from system to system, but has anyone else tried upgrading their rigs with G3258's recently?
  6. So I can actually get a Blackwidow TE Mechanical keyboard for $40??? Count me in!
  7. From what I can tell, here's how it's looking: - The Haswell-E and Haswell Refresh was released from about mid-2014 and around the end of 2014; Which was an "upgrade" from 4th Gen Intel Core technology. - Skylake was released back in August-September last year; based on new 6th Gen Intel Core technology. - Today they're looking to release a 5th Gen-based enthusiast class CPU's. Replacing the 4th Gen, but not replacing the 5th Gen lineup or 6th Gen lineup. gg Intel
  8. Wait so do you have the actual Windows key (like written on a piece of paper or digital) on hand? Make sure you get it by some means of software, like Magical Jelly Bean. From my personal experience you have to download Windows 8.1 from Microsoft directly, throw it onto a flashdrive (or burn it to a disc if people still do that) and install it on the new machine with the new motherboard. After it's installed, then you have to do the upgrade thingy to Windows 10. Only reason I say to do it this way is because I had a Windows 7 Professional key lying around and I wanted to use it for my new Windows 10 build. It didn't work because the key was only good for WIndows 7 Professional, not for Windows 10, despite being able to upgrade through the tool you use to upgrade to Windows 10. Hopefully the above makes sense, I really rushed through writing this since I have places to be To answer your actual question: you can still upgrade to Windows 10 from your WIndows 8.1 key.
  9. The SVGA driver is exactly what it sounds like... A driver for VGA or any other integrated graphics. If you have a dedicated GPU (An Nvidia or AMD graphics card) you don't really need to worry about this. A solution to your problem would be to just look up some graphics drivers on Intel's site
  10. Glad I could help! Let us know how the build turns out
  11. Trust me, 28 lanes is way more than enough for 2 GTX 980Ti's. A single GTX 980Ti can't even utilize an entire PCIe 3.0 4x slot. So, theoretically (if Nvidia didn't cap SLI on their cards to a minimum of 8x) you could run 4 GTX 980Ti's on an i5 6600k without any bottlenecks. My point is, you'll be fine with any kind of consumer or enthusiast-grade CPU from Intel PCIe lanes won't be a problem for a long time.
  12. Hey guys, After checking out the leaked Intel roadmap HERE, It looks like Broadwell chips didn't really come to market on the desktop side of things. So is Skylake-E the next refresh for desktop CPU's? I would like to build a new system around summer this year, possibly go with a new enthusiast-grade CPU this time.
  13. Calling on cellphones is really starting to become a thing of the past... pretty crazy seeing stuff like Skype taking over when it comes to actually calling someone.
  14. Wow. Thank you for this lol. Made this much easier. Thanks!
  15. Hey all! My current HTPC contains A Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced with 3 Hard drives and an SSD in it... SSD for the boot drive, one hard drive for media and random files, and the other two in RAID 1 for important data (nuclear launch codes, Area 51 secrets, etc). I was looking at investing into a new slim tower case as my current case setup isn't very elegant to say the least (I picked up the 120 Addvanced for like $30 on sale at Microcenter and doesn't really have features I would like). My issue is I simply can't find any slim tower cases (similar to a Fractal Design Node 202 or a Silverstone Raven) that can actually hold 3 hard drives or more. Does anybody know of some? Could I get some recommendations? Thanks!
