Because I think this is potentially a good change, and someone who has abused their power getting afraid that they might have that power taken away is amusing to me.

Gadde does not have the sole authority, but she has been instrumental in creating and enforcing a lot of the censorship going on.
Just search her name and you will find a bunch of articles and interviews with about her and from Twitter executives calling her things like "one of the most powerful people at Twitter".

    Just less censorship in general.

    Fewer bans and "deplatforming".
Less selective enforcement of their rules.
Don't ban news sites that report on news they don't like (see: New York Post about Hunter Biden which Twitter censored for "commercial reasons").
Hopefully less "echo chambers" by tweaking the algorithm.
Possibly remove the "quality filter" that happened to have a "bug" that accidentally filtered out content from a certain political party.
Maybe remove the "misinformation warning" as well. Not only do I dislike when companies decide what is and isn't "the truth", but it also seems very selectively used. At that point it might just might give people a false sense of security.

The things that twitter censors isn't really lies or propaganda its just issues that are controversial that they tend to side on one side and censor the other. My personal beliefs tend to align with twitters so it doesn't matter much to me but that doesn't mean the censorship doesn't exist. Also again doing tech reviews about products your company makes is likely a fireable offense in their employment agreement and has very little to do with free speech.

The source is irrelevant to the individual heater’s efficiency.

The alternative is burning natural gas or oil in a central heating system. Gathering, storing and delivering that gas/oil is simply more wasteful by design than simply taking the electricity off the grid.

Good grief this is by far one of dumbest things I've read from California. They have brownouts because of people charging electric cars that use 11500 watts but a 500w PSU is too much that's absurdity. Maybe admit that the electric grid isn't able to handle your fancy electric vehicles and stop shoving stupid miniscule energy saving tactics down people's throats costing them money.

Unfortunately its low hanging fruit which makes it a perfect target for a meaningless political gesture.

Instead of tacking things that will have a real impact (like industrial wastage for one) they'll ban gaming devices because option one is high profile, low cost and low effort where as making factories turn off lights, AC units and power down machines when not needed costs a fuck load of money, needs to be enforced by somebody and won't get the politicians name in the press.

Though the intent was sarcastic, you do have to realize that the upper limit in the US has always been 1500w (one 15A circuit.) One gaming PC is between 650 and 1000w, and a HTPC or Workstation with two or more GPU's can easily hit 1500w.

Now, as for "oh no-fun california" type of comments. These are the same states that implement green standards first, because they benefit everyone EAST of them. Remember Acid Rain? You know what industries did? They made the smokestacks taller so the pollution would be spread over a wider area. Acid rain in North America has collectively declined by about 75% since 1980 due to such green rules.

So why now? Why gaming PC's?

    https://www.semiconductors.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/RITR-WEB-version-FINAL.pdf

Gaming PC's are collateral damage. This is being sped up by cryptomining, and various other energy-intensive computing, and we're seeing the beginnings of this problem in countries that had not moved swiftly enough to get on top of it, and now they're experiencing power cuts.

So by 2040, with no new generation capacity (Western North America's energy grid will be at less of a risk, but continent-wide there is very little room for new generation capacity without destroying some other resource in the process.)

This is regarding the idle power use, not active, though I suppose PC's with no iGPU probably make that harder to hit, and liquid cooled models have a pump constantly running, and if businesses had to make a choice, they would just buy everyone laptop's that can hit that target.

This probably does not apply to DIY builds, at least not self-assembly builds, as no part in a DIY build independently will go over the power budget.

Something important you didn't mention: they'll be able to be retrofitted with electric motors later on, so they're likely going to work on building up the charging infrastructure before converting them all to electric. I don't think the design looks bad. After all, we have had the LLV for a long time now, so a new design in any form is neat to see.

CoffeeBlack reacted to DrMacintosh in USPS is getting new trucks but only 10% are electric
Apparently they can be converted to electric later. Right now, there is almost no electric charging infrastructure in the US. Some of these trucks have insanely long days, so you have to be able to charge them all overnight and they need the range to complete their routes without needing to recharge.

I guarantee that the reason the USPS is not going full out electric is simply because electric cars are not ready for full scale deployment.

    1) you won't want government to control what you're doing with your electricity, just like you don't want them to control how you use your internet

The cryptocurrency market has to die. From a logical and rational point of view it makes no sense whatsoever to convert electricity into an online currency. It literally has zero purpose. No I don't care that it helps you dodge taxations or that you are able to make an income from this. Electricity usage is already high enough in the world, we don't need morons running graphics cards day and night for nothing more than just money making reasons. I doubt Americans are able to understand my argument or care too much about environmental consequences but I can definitely see the EU stepping in one day and regulating this because it literally defies logic from a humanity perspective.

Those numbers make little sense to me. Gamers Nexus did a live stream and overclocked some RTX 3080 cards on air, seeing almost the same results in Port Royal than the supposed 3090, makes me think they either had the wrong card or did something really wrong in their testing process. There is no way the performance is that bad.
But then they would have had to use a modified 3080 driver, likely not being able to address more cores on the chip so that makes sense I guess.

And video production is another industry that’s still largely shut down, so if they had money spent on shoots that never ended up happening or staff can’t congregate etc. There’s a lot of ways a large YouTube channel that employs multiple people could be significantly effected.
