Just change the RAM and (optionally) turn on XMP to get the highest speed.

You definitely don't have to reinstall windows when you install new ram just make sure you have the xmp profile set for the new ones

Based on this data, the closest comparable chip is the i5-10600 at $213/1k (~$235 MSRP) which is locked, and the i5-10600KF at $237 (~$260 MSRP). If we say that these are essentially the same real-world performance as an i7-8700 and i7-8700k (all core clocks look pretty similar, 4.4/4.5 vs the 8700/8700k's 4.3ghz), and since we know a 3600x is close to an 8700k, you got slightly less performance for slightly less money.
 
I don't think you made a mistake in buying the 3600x. Well, except maybe not getting the 3600 instead.

I would also concur that you made a good decision. AMD has an insane price to performance with the Ryzen platform. Pairing it with speedy memory and a good GPU will get you fantastic results.

who says intel will be better?
amd will also release a new line of cpus this year, and they have every chance of being better than the new intel ones and will work with your current motehrboard

It's still my go to for photo editing of any kind. Complimenting Gimp, I also use Krita, Inkscape and Davinc Resolve to do all my 'creative stuff'.

i5 does not have hyperthreading. the i7 are the quad cores that support hyperthreading for intel.

I would recommend getting the cheapest one... you don't get much more preformance by getting ram with higher frequency

Definitely learn to type with full words instead of texting lingo that has been outdated for years. I recommend typing the notes for the class you're trying to learn. In fact, type it multiple times. I guarantee you'll do fine if you do that.
