  1. So I have an old laptop that has been owned forever pretty much. I know it's old but I would still like to salvage it. It came with Windows 98 but it has since been upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional about a decade ago. It started getting blue screen errors about some hive file error or something along those lines so I forgot about it for a while. I recently dug it up and I want to install XP or something along those lines on it or at least get it to boot. There lies the problem: The CD drive opens and closes properly and the lights flash but it doesn't actually do anything come the time it should ask to boot to CD (if you've ever installed XP on a DVD/CD). I'm completely lost here and I have no idea what I can do at this point. Is anyone familiar with this model or lineup of laptops? It was decent for it's time I believe so I'd still like to get it up and running just for fun. I'm not really worried about the data that's on it; I just want to install XP or something (yes my disc is bootable and everything). I've tried a bunch of older operating systems, including Windows XP SP2, Windows 98, and some old floppies for DOS. None of them boot (not even the MS-DOS floppy boot disc). What should I do?
  2. Just the general things to make sure of: -Re-connect all fans -Make sure CPU fan is plugged in -Provide power to graphics card (unless you use integrated) -Make sure CPU is seated correctly. -Re-seat memory. Start with one DIMM, and if it works, add one more and repeat, and if it doesn't work for one DIMM, then it might be some memory. -Clear BIOS, maybe you destroyed something -Make sure 24 pin and 4+4pin is plugged in to motherboard -Make sure you're on standoffs all the way -Try unplugging from wall. Plug in the computer, but don't turn it on. If the fans come on for at least half a second after plugging it in and you don't turn it on, your fans should be working, at least I realized this with an older Intel board. (Last resorts) -Try CPU with another motherboard -Try motherboard with another CPU -Try another PSU -Try removing graphics card and using built-in integrated if you have a graphics card
  3. If you have another LGA1150 processor laying around you can probably test it on the motherboard that blew up. Try it with 212 first (since it was working fine with that cooler) and if it works, then try it with the H75. If it blows up again or doesn't post or gives error 99, you might just want to get a new mobo.
  4. It's been almost a week, and my issue still persists. I have downgraded to the latest STABLE build (not bleeding edge) of AMD's drivers. Whenever the game freezes, the HDD light is solid red, I don't know if that has to do with anything. Any ideas, suggestions, or tips would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I will try re-installing my game and seeing if that solves the issue.
  6. This has been an issue since Day 1 when I installed the game. It has had multiple inexplicable crashes and sometimes they have error messages, other times they don't. If it does have an error message, it says this: Failed initialization please reboot and re-install game I really don't feel like installing practically 70 GB of data, especially considering that I have the disc set. Other times, it just goes black and shows the desktop without me being able to use the mouse. I have to Windows+R and launch taskmgr and use my keyboard to kill the process manually. Specs: OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 @ 3.1GHz GPU: Gigabyte R9 380 4GB G1 Gaming (OC'd to 1020 Core, 1435 Mem. Issue happens even at stock) MOBO: MSi Z97 PC MATE HDD: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM PSU: EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR AMD Driver Version (according to Raptr): Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.1.1 GTA 5 Settings: I upgraded from Windows 7 a while ago, but the issue happened even before the upgrade, so it's not the operating system. However, it seems like the crashes are getting more and more frequent making the game practically un-playable. I need a solution before I uninstall the game and re-install it. Anyone who has had this issue, please tell me if you fixed it and how.
  7. My friend who will remain nameless is convinced that their computer is better than mine. Well, is it? (no, it isn't, but I wanted a bunch of approvals so I could show my friend lol) Their computer (I'm not sure about all the parts, but I tried my best) CPU: AMD FX-6300 GPU: NVIDIA GT 730 2GB RAM: 8GB DDR3-1333 (unknown brand) PSU: ? HDD: Some sort of 1TB drive with 500 GB extra? don't know... Mine CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 GPU: Gigabyte R9 380 4G G1 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIM - Red PSU: EVGA 100-W1-500-KR 500W 80+ (I crapped out on this, I know) Case: Rosewill Galaxy-01 (could've done better) HDD: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM SSD: No SSD Just general gaming performance, I think mine is clearly better.
  8. It really depends on which SpeedTest server you're connecting to. Try connecting to the closest and not the one selected by SpeedTest.Net based on ping. If it's still not changing then try other devices, browsers, updating flash, etc. Other than that, I don't know what to say. Seems like it. That or the ISP is terrible. Have you tried contacting them about it?
  9. Found this on Gigabyte's website. http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/faq-page.aspx?fid=816 It might help, but to be honest they really need to re-do the <br> tags on that page...
  10. I'll try that when I get the chance. Coincidentally, the PC actually failed to recognize the graphics card about a half an hour ago, and I had to re-mount it. It's good to update the BIOS once in a while anyway, so I'll make sure to update. Thank you for your advice.
  11. Can you give us your motherboard, memory, and CPU specifications?
  12. Maybe you can watch one of his ads at the beginning of one of his videos. It is the CM MasterCase 5. EDIT: I believe it is on one of his ads. Sorry if I'm wrong.
  13. I have an MSi Z97 PC Mate with an Intel Core i5-4440 and a case speaker plugged in. I also have a Gigabyte R9 380 4G. Whenever I boot up my machine, two beeps come out of the case speaker, yet the computer turns on fine with no issues whatsoever. On occasions it'll fail to display to the monitor, but it fixes itself when I press the reset button on the case. I have no idea what's going on with those beeps, but this system is literally only 5 days old and this makes no sense to me as I've never experienced this issue on any computer before (apart from when I overclocked some memory on a pre-built computer when the FSB didn't support the frequency I overclocked the memory to). Any ideas?
  14. I'll check that out, although I don't think that could be the issue because in Task Manager under Networking tab, it says the connection is a 54mbps connection. I get 50/50 regardless of what device I use, so I wouldn't be able to lower it too much without sacrificing pure internet speed. I'll still check it out.
