Northbridge was moved to the CPU die a few generations ago, so yes.

    I should note
That usually msi has better vrms (in terms of quality ) and Asus as mediocre ones
Not on all of their boards but some

I'm running a B450 Tomahawk(non-max) with bios update and a 3600.  I was able to over clock pretty well on my 2600, but the 3600 isn't taking to it as well.  Could be worse luck in the silicon lottery, could be the board is about cashed in terms of performance, but the Tomahawk is supposed to be one of the better B450 boards out there in terms of VRMs and features so you might look there.  I'm planning on a B550 when they drop and either picking up a 3700X cheaper(they're $275 at Newegg right now), or keeping the 3600 and going ham when the 4th gen drops.

Well if you use the stock cooler it will shoot air over the vrms to help with cooling some and the 3600 is a 65 watt tdp chip so you should be good there. You could probably even get away with something like a 2700 on a board like that and still be fine.

Yeah I have the R 5 3600 and I love it. I'd suggest a gpu upgrade in the future but if you're fine with your current one then you'll be good.

zedsdeath reacted to jjbeebe in Boot loop after bios settings change
I forgot all the details but if you install Windows under a certain mode (I.E ahci) it will install drivers or other things for that controller. If it is changed it will not boot due to having the wrong setup. I would also check to make sure there are no xmp profiles or anything odd that may mess things up if you can get to the bios. In general, try different settings that make sense. I would say try to revert back if you can or try the update again if the other stuff will not work.

    Hope this helps

Some mobo let you flash the bios and reinstall it. Have to refer to the manufacturer manual: the behavior tells you what's wrong.

I own a laptop with the i3 8130u and its a really good cpu for being an i3, the thing hadles mobas and photo editing with a lot of chrome tabs opened on the background. I would recommend you to use the i3 since browsers benefit more of higher core clocks. And I dont know if the pentium can get you by with the screen recording while doing other sutff

Then don't bother with Ryzen since you would have to get new RAM, motherboard and CPU and you would not see that big of an performance improvement, only in some CPU bound scenarios.

If you want upgrade for cheap, grab used Xeon E3 1231 V3, it's basically a i7 4770 without iGPU.

pop in an i7 3770 (no need to change motherboard) and 2x8gb 1600mhz RAM. then save up for a used GTX 1060 or RX 580 4gb. more than enough power for daily use, gaming and productivity. shouldnt cost more than $200usd total depending on your residence and product availability

I like to put linux on a second drive, then you can boot from that drive for linux & drive 1 for windows. Plus, when you reinstall windows the windows bootloader will not overwrite the linux bootloader.

zedsdeath reacted to Princess Luna in RX 580 vs RX 590
RX 590 is usually heavily ignored because being more expensive to the point you can usually pick a V56 for not much more or like 1070 ~ 980 Ti makes it a really bad purchase, every either go a bit bigger or bit lower on the 580 which performs about the same when you OC it hard.

If it's priced lower where you plan to buy it could simply be it has been stuck on stock for so long and now with the RX 5700 coming this card has no place on the market any more and they just wanna get rid of it.

If you wanna spend a bit more the mentioned RX 5700 could be a really good card if you want AMD, I think worth saving for instead of picking the older RX 500's cards or even nVidia Pascal/Maxwell used.

Yes I have 1 tb exactly right now, but I have another free slot to add some more. I have read that of one os devouring another and I thought it was really rare/weird too.  Thanks a lot! ?

zedsdeath reacted to Nettly_ in Triple boot how to
Before actually working on this I highly recommend at LEAST a terabyte of storage. This way you aren't limited too much. Now the steps of doing this are rather easy. There is a hard way (which even a beginner can do with a guide) and the easy way (that might not wanna work with you sometimes).

    Easy Way
Install Windows Install Mint (when it talks about disc ask to install along-side Windows) Install Kali (again ask it to install along side those two) Now issues with this are that sometimes it won't allow a triple boot without eating one of them. However this is rare.
    Hard Way
(this way works best, as it literally works with you)
Install Windows  While installing go to partition manager Set the partition to around 333.33GB Continue installation Install Mint While installing, on how to install click the option for custom partitions Set a new partition to 333.33GB like Windows Continue with installation Install Kali Same as Windows and Linux Mint Set the size to 333.33GB  Continue Once all are installed make sure ALL of them work properly. General info (Not 100% important tbh)
Now boot loader is rather unnecessary, but not completely, just make sure the one you need most often boots first, or at least know which button to hit to switch between operating systems. Be sure to keep an eye on each install as triple booting can cause errors in the disk, even though very rare, has happened to me on triple boot systems (as they sometimes don't play nicely). Make sure none of them devour another OS (which is rare but I know people who had this happen). Also general rule of multi-booting in general (duel boot, triple boot, quad boot, etc), never try to run multiple OS's at once, even though it is TECHNICALLY possible, it is a pain in the butt and not worth it for any situation.
