So I have a pretty beefy server that I use for hosting my own servers/websites, but was wondering if I was to turn it into dedi boxes and pre-configure some popular game servers (minecraft, cod, ark etc) whether people would be interested in it. Renting a pre-configured server would be easier and cheaper than renting a full server so just wanted to get an idea of if its worth my time
-
Right now I'll literally take any salaried job in IT, to get experience, the qualifications can come later
-
My problem was that I chose Aberdeen university for engineering a few years back but didnt like it, but got stuck with that uni, my course was centred around base level stuff, like machine code and algorithmic problem solving, which neither of those are things I can see myself doing in the future. I also have severe problems with non hands on learning, and my course had almost none (other than 1 course in Ruby but not even rails, just sinatra...) so i just found it extremely hard to focus. I have self taught C++, PHP, Javascript and Java though which shows how bad I am at listening and learning, which is why I want to attempt an apprenticeship since its learning and then applying that learning.
-
So today I left university (computer science) due to the course being outdated and boring/not what I wanted to do at all. I'm now thinking Im going to do an apprenticeship which will give me a qualification at the end of it and was just wondering which ones I should look out for or prioritise getting if I want to go into the IT/Networking field at the end of it?

Depends what program you use, I cant record it using fraps on my rig, but Action! is perfect. A fury will handle it 0 problems

Can't decide whether to sell my PC as a build, or parts
Thespragg replied to Thespragg's topic in New Builds and Planning
Only had it overclocked for a month before the upgrade so its all good, very true, already have a test bench though so right now I dont need much, i will be going with part sales though -

Very true, my main problem with the r9 280 was there's so much bad press about burnt out ones since they're so good for coin mining. I wish having a good over clocking CPU still meant as much haha, I managed to get a stable 5.6ghz out of that chip at one point -
It was more if I decide against the 980 to then I'd want to save a little hence the crossfire

I did think that, but I was worried parts like the PSU/GPU wouldnt sell as theyre somewhat unknown/underated -
Its between dual r9 380x, a GTX 980 or a GTX 980ti or other option Ooh hadn't thought about the nano, but is it maybe worth stepping up to the 980 Ti, unfortunately the 7950 is dying, and Im probably going to sell a full build soon, I have all the parts needed for a second PC other than a case

Ok so in the last year I've upgraded my rig pretty heavy, and because of this I now have: CPU: FX-8350 RAM: 16GB corsair vengeance 1333Mhz GPU: Asus R9 280 MOBO: Crosshair V Formula Z PSU: Corsair CX750M SSD: OCZ arc 100 120Gb HDD: WD Green 2Tb And was wondering, should I sell this as individual parts, or buy a case and sell it as a full build? Which would get me the most value?

Ok so long story short, first built my PC about 5 years ago, originally chose an HD7950 900Mhz clock GPU, then about 2 years ago decided to upgrade and installed an R9 280 (same chip as the HD7950) in crossfire. Upped the base clock of the HD7950 to 950Mhz and all was good in my PC, good graphical performance etc etc. Anyway, I think the old card is dying (RIP) causing river crashes left right and centre, and it is no longer playing nice with the extra 50Mhz (not much of a difference I know but not nice having such an unstable card) so I've decided it's time to nut up and get a new one. Now here's where the problem lies, I could get dual R9 2380x which perform about the same as a 980 but slightly less (UK costs) or I could go the extra £100 and get a 980 ti if I ever wanted to upgrade to 4k in the future. Since I'm basically being forced to get a new GPU anyway I'm wondering if a) there is more options I just haven't considered yet, or b) It's worth getting a 980/R9 380x combo now and selling it on later if I do upgrade to 4k/VR or pay the extra now and only have to worry about getting a 4k display later. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My friends PC wasn't posting, so I powered up my pc using his power supply, which worked, then went on to test his components, but I left it in my pc and just went about it like that, so I got lazy and didnt take his SATA power cable out of my HDD's and instead just plugged it into my psu to save time and it killed all 3 of them. Also i know it was a power issue because I replaced the PCB on the two main ones and they worked again afterwards

Using a power cable from my own PSU to test a friends PSU (300w difference) and blowing out 3 of my hardrives PCBs with it
