  1. Thanks.....ya windows is fairly easy to setup but i do not want to invest in OS.... Any suggestion on the best free os with nice gui?
  2. I am fairly new to this forum and I am getting started on first NAS build for Home uses like plex media server and file sharing I have done a barebone NAS build using the pcpartpicker. I already have 2x 2 TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm SATA drives for storage and a 120GB SSD for OS and Apps. I will be using those for now. whenever possible i will upgrade to WD Red drives. here is the link http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xMPFRB for the build i am planning to put together. My Budget is $400 to $500, i will be happy if i can achieve what i need for even less Main Requirement - NAS should be able to transcode at least 2 streams of 1080p or 1 stream of 2160p without sweating. OS - FreeNAS is out of league as it is ZFS and will need ECC ram and the build price will go high. I am thinking of OpenMediaVault or just lightweight linux distro. Please fill me in with your suggestions or any changes needed to the build above.
