You could use the Android emulator that comes with Android studio, it'll let you easily install any apk and also you can also use any beta version of Android (if that's your thing)

    Edit:
The emulator does have issues running any games, i don't remember what the reason was.

mrchow19910319 reacted to C2dan88 in windows file explorer extension / replacement?
Typically File Explorer only shows the folder size by hovering over the folder name. But sometime this is not reliable/accurate if windows has not opened/scanned the folder before

I typically use WinDirStat for visualizing folder sizes. FileTree is  recommended for explorer replacement.

The static IP address you have set may not be available on other networks.

If you have access to the router, you can log on to it and see what device may use that IP address.

You might like Emergency!. It's about a Los Angeles County fire department at the dawn of the paramedic program. Of course Johnny and Roy rarely lost a patient, but it isn't built on wall-to-wall character drama and us-vs-them tribalism like most of today's police procedurals. It has its share of corny banter with the Station 51 crew and the doctors at Rampart Hospital, but that's balanced with adventures saving accident victims and blowing up old warehouses in southern California.

There was even a Saturday Morning cartoon tie-in featuring teenagers in a van, because it was the '70s so of course there was.

    I loved CSI.

    NCIS, as well.

But, it's pseudo science, most of the time, and if you hate plot holes, fail logic, bad math, or super formulaic stuff... Maybe pass on it...

I mean, it was entertaining to watch, and it didn't really push any specific narrative, at least, not most of the time.

It's just what people want to watch. A CSI show following corrupt cops and a bad prosecutor might be interesting, but it would be a totally different kind of show without the same universal appeal. People like characters who are trying to do good, and happy endings.

Did you actually watch that video?
In order for this to work, you need BOTH a Linux install, and a real Mac system.
If you have a Mac system, then running MacOS in a VM is kinda pointless.

This is one of those experiments where someone went well out of their way to prove it can be done...provided you are willing to go through Hell to make it so. And Heaven help you if you run across unexpected issues, because the video won't.

They should have kept the Mini at $699 and gave the base model 16GB of RAM.

I'm very disappointed that Apple continues to sell 8GB RAM computers in 2023.

There have been laptops with 64GB of RAM for a while, but anything beyond that has been tricky.

As for the audience, it's larger than you think. Audiovisual editors (music, photos, video) love RAM, especially if they're working with very high-res formats like 8K video and RAW images. It's practically essential for working with 3D models. And if you're crunching a lot of data, such as for an AI project, more memory helps.

mrchow19910319 reacted to just_dave in The amount of (seemingly intentional) misinformation in LTT and ShortCircuit content about anything made by Apple (and featuring Alex) is alarming
Before I get called a fanboy - I do use Apple products and enjoy it very much. But I am also a developer and especially on macOS, there are many, many problems that need to be highlighted and addressed. These products/platforms are not perfect and criticism is necessary. But misinformation that is intentionally misleading is definitely not.

I hope I am not the only one, and I think the last ShortCircuit video proved it, as the now-pinned comment contains many replies sharing the same feeling.

Over the last year or so, I noticed a very strong trend in almost all LTT and ShortCircuit videos where incorrect specifications are stated/presented or completely dumb assumptions are being made.

It makes it seem that either the writers for these videos are completely stupid and incapable of actual research and writing, or it's being done intentionally to drive interaction and views.

Let me give a few examples with timestamps:

    1. Mac Studio SSD Swap video at 9:30 - 9:50 ish. Alex says that macOS recovery has been removed and it's not longer possible to reinstall the OS etc. and Linus reacts to it by saying how badly Apple treats their customers.

What even is that? Did anyone with IQ over 80 spend more than 30 seconds working on that video script? This literally takes 5 seconds to Google: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/intro-to-macos-recovery-mchl46d531d6/mac

    2. Mac Users Deserve Better  - at 6:12 - 7:20 Alex here just straight up says that the single external display support on M1/M2 is a software limitation and that the Thunderbolt 3 ports can support more than external display physically. It actually isn't true at all, because the external display hardware exists for only 1 display output on the M1/M2 die. Proving this is hard (as of now), because Hector Martin (the developer of Asahi Linux for Apple Silicon) has since deleted his Twitter (because of Musk) and his tTwitter account had all of this information documented (AT THE TIME OF RELEASE OF THE VIDEO WOULD COME UP IN REGULAR SEARCHES ON THIS TOPIC) along with die shots, die layout estimation etc. However, he posted it on hackernews, so there is only this comment thread available https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32175939

    3. Windows doesn't have an answer - 15:01 webcam comparison, again the video is terribly written with incorrect specs for the webcams and Alex making a big deal out of it (I understand you need clickbait views).
This time people corrected it and it was actually pinned, so that's at least some improvement.

Linus and Alex always say how they want to perform in-depth testing for products, how they want to share transparent results and be the trusted place for consumers to come for information about what products to buy.
Well, this definitely doesn't inspire any confidence in that.

mrchow19910319 reacted to Kisai in What does "Disable secure boot " do to our PCs?
Unless you have a good reason to, you should not enable Secure Boot on anything but Windows 11.

Enterprise systems should enable Secure Boot because they are running Windows, but only after the OS has been imaged. Part of the tools you get with Dell systems, installs the OS image and sets the BIOS to SecureBoot after the OS has finished being image restored. I'm sure similar processes exist for HP and Lenovo systems.

That said, Secure Boot complicates password recovery tools, and if you don't do things correctly when you install the OS, there is no "booting from the install disk" to fix it.

You're running Mint 21 (Previous versions did too)? It will work fine with secure boot enabled. There really wasn't a reason to disable it. The machine I'm typing this on has Mint 21 (my primary OS) and Windows 11 (for gaming).

You create a key, reboot, enroll that key (type in the password you created), done deal.

I think that the comparisons they could not be taken too seriously...

Hear me out before you disagree with me, I do have some doubts after watching it.

In the vid, they did not even use the same mice every time, I mean why keep changing the competitors??
There were 3 sets of tests, and the competitors are:
            1:  mamba & ouroboros & sensei wireless
            2:  deathadder chroma & mamba
            3:  rival 300 & deathadder chroma
First of all, why change the competitor?? Why not let all the 5 other mouses showed up in the 3 tests?? Then give us a result, a chart or sth.

Second of all, at the 1st test, when mamba came out, Luke MANUALLY started the interference. When the g900 came out, he did not do that. The result that showed on the screen could be one that already been reset already. The G900 did perform better in the 1st test , but the whole thing felt rigged. Looks like logitech hand picked some of the tests then only showed you the one that G900 can win.

I know that this vid is sponsored by Logitech, and I admit that in all 3 tests the G900 wins hands down, there is no doubt. (I didn't know the sensei was that bad though) , but does it really matter?? As Luke in the vid said some of the tests are simulating some extreme circumstances that can only happen in a lab. It does show us that the G900 is more accurate than its rivals, but when it comes to practical uses how much does it matter? What I mean is that I am not gonna use it in the lab and connect it to the testing machine and looking at the result and feel good about it. Maybe I am too harsh on this vid... I don't know... What do you guys think??
