  1. I am following this guide to set up a shadowsocks server to bypass the GFW. https://www.oilandfish.com/posts/shadowsocks-libev.html Steps that I've done: install snap core install shadowsocks-libev using snap edited this file: ` vi /var/snap/shadowsocks-libev/common/etc/shadowsocks-libev/config.json` { "server": (Question: is this the server address of my ss account? Or is it 0.0.0.0? ) "server_port":(server port that my ss account comes with) "local_port":1080 (I think my ss account is using 1080 localport), "mode":"tcp_and_udp"(I'm not sure so I just put both LOL), "password":"some password"(again, this is provided by the VPN provider), "timeout":300 (300 milliseconds?), "method":"chacha20-ietf-poly1305" (provided) } then I tried to use this command to start the service: `systemctl start snap.shadowsocks-libev.ss-server-daemon` but I got this error : Failed to start snap.shadowsocks-libev.ss-server-daemon.service: Unit snap.shadowsocks-libev.ss-server-daemon.service not found. so, what should I do now? Also Under /etc/systemd/system there is a file that's called: snap-shadowsocks\x2dlibev-508.mount and inside that file it contains these commands: [Unit] Description=Mount unit for shadowsocks-libev, revision 508 Before=snapd.service After=zfs-mount.service [Mount] What=/var/lib/snapd/snaps/shadowsocks-libev_508.snap Where=/snap/shadowsocks-libev/508 Type=squashfs Options=nodev,ro,x-gdu.hide,x-gvfs-hide LazyUnmount=yes [Install] WantedBy=default.target multi-user.target does it have anything to do with my settings? Do I have to change it or ???
  2. lol i'm getting a R9000K in mainland china with R95900HX + RTX 3080 (165W 16GB VRAM) + 32GB of DDR4 3200Hz RAM + 1TB of NVME SSD. screen resolution is 2560x1600 165Hz 500 nit 10bit gsync/freesync premium display. pretty happy with the purchase, waiting for it to ship to me. just letting you guys know. currently I am using a 4 core machine which sometimes struggles to create/mod heavy excel files. LOL https://item.jd.com/100044892519.html
  3. lol yes. macOS VM is a pretty big part of my workflow. I do use mac specific software to deal with a lot of images and files and so on. The thing is I could not find many laptops that come with a 1080P screen + a 3060. Most of them have a 1440p screen, I think for AAA titles a 1080p screen is better.....
  4. @Darkseth @unnerfed cthun @swabro after checking pricing on the loacl market, I am planning to get a Acer Nitro 5. i5-12500H + 3060 with 16GB of DDR4 ram is the spec I am choosing. So, the money I saved from getting an i7 machine will be used to get 32GB of RAM as well as some nvme SSD + 2.5inch HDD. This is my plan for now. Hope I wont be regretting not getting the i7 version.
  5. I see. In order to get the best performance I can, is there any extra steps should I do?? I heard that you can run macOS using KVM under linux system. (maybe I should just install a light weight distro like xubuntu hence and give all the remaining power to the VM) Or, I could just install it using VMware under windows 11. Which one is better? I just want to best performance for my VM thats all. I do this cos I dont have the budget to get a macbook, hence this is my workaround.
  6. I am planning to run macOS inside virtual box or VMware. I use macOS to organize my icloud library also use some mac apps that works better for my workflow, so basically office and such, as well as some markdown note taking,. That's my plan for now. I know.... I am looking into some laptop that are made by asus, as well as acer. The thing is that Asia market's laptops are quite different from laptops that are selling in north america. I am currently doing research on TDP(both GPU and CPU) of the deivces; screen brightness; are there any known issues that are discovered after the device itself went on to the market etc... I want to get a machine that has a 1080P screen and a 3060 or above for it. That is quite hard to find.
  7. is 6 core / 8 core machine good enough for VMs?? I am planning to run macOS in vmware..
  8. To be more specific, I am buying laptop from Asian market right now since I am from mainland China. My requirements are these: () 1080P screen with high screen brightness. the higher the better. RTX 3060/3070 (140W +) A good CPU that can run VMs smoothly. Since I am goning to duo boot windows and Linux, also using VM inside linux system. At least I am planning to. I dont really care about screen sizes 15.6 , 17.3 are the same to me. My question is this: intel's 12700H only has 6 performance core but when it comes to single threaded tasks it performs better than AMD's counterpart? I'm still a bit confused since you guys gave me opposite answers, LOL sorry.
  9. I am planning to get a laptop for programming, running VMs as well as duo booting linux and such. It will be used to play some triple A games as well. My question is this, since I know nothing about CPUs, is AMD's true 8 core CPU gonna be faster than Intel's counter part? Since intel's i7 is 6+8 cores and only 6 of those cores are performance cores. Which should I get? Also when it comes to virtural machines and such is Intel more compatible ?? Or AMD will do just fine. I've always heard people talk about doing more steps and tweaking more when it comes to AMD's system. What CPU do you guys recommend? I am planning to use this machine as long as possible. At least 6 years +. Which one should I get? Ryzen 7 6800H? Or Intel 12700H. Also if I wanna get a machine that comes with 140W 3060 + a 1080p screen, what model should I get ?
  10. since my budget may vary from time to time, let me put it this way, apple refurbished 14inch OR apple refurbished m1 air. I think this is the right direction for me. 16GB/256GB or 512GB depends on stocks on apple.com
  11. I am tore between these 3 models. The 14 inch one is a tad cheaper than those two. Those two macbooks are 13 inch , but with more RAM. I could always use more ram... I really dislike the 13 inch macbook pro's design, actually prefer the notch design. Also they said there's something with macbook's SSD with this newer generation? Or if it is the 512GB one like I am choosing, it is fine. I will be using it for photo editing as well as programming. These machines are probably overkill for me. But I have the budget right now. So, which one should I choose?
  12. I have downloaded an Excel attendance summary template, where if you key in V inside a single cell, it will change color according to the fx function on top. I do not know how to set it up so that my excel worksheet can do the same. Could someone tell me how to achieve this?? Here is the template I was talking about . 月考勤表微软官网.xltx
  13. wow thanks for the indepth explanation. this helps a lot. could you emplify this last part though... when you say you are preparing to install it using opencore, does it mean that you wanna build a hackintosh ???
  14. I'll use linux as well as macos plus windows as well. Otherwise I would have bought a macbook straight. I think I'll have to wait for next years model when it comes to laptop, the one I am using currently can barely handles office workload. LOL
  15. do you guys think that I should wait for next year's intel 13th gen CPU as well as rtx 40 series for this? when will the newest gen laptop come out though?
  16. is it necessary to run macOS under linux based system?? I wanna run it inside ubuntu cos I thought xubuntu uses very little system resources when booted compare to windows 11.
  17. purpose of running macOS: doing daily tasks such as office work, and organize photos and some light photo editing etc etc. I wont be doing heavy loaded tasks such as video editing, coding and such. so my plan is to install xubuntu on the secondary hard drive on a laptop, and run macOS using vmware or other virtual machine software. and my question is this, is SSD speed gonna effect the performance of virtual machine? how many gigabytes of RAM is suitable for this kind of workload? I do not have the extra money to buy a macbook, so I thought I'm just gonna buy a gaming laptop and run macOS inside VMware. Do you guys recommend Intel or AMD based system? for the secondary harddrive, what model should I get? (let's assume it is a NVME drive) also does photo editing require hardware acceleration?
  18. I am using Ubuntu Gnome right now and I would like to ask if I do NOT use the GUI to change socks5 port, what other ways I can make my system went through socks5 and make it default? The reason I am asking is that I use a shadowsocks proxy server to bypass the GFW. Right now I am stuck on a system that uses gnome as a DE because the app I am using only supports Gnome desktop environment. If I can setup a shadowsocks server using the terminal and change my system proxy to socks5 using terminal I would be good to go.
