FusionDeck reacted to LinusTech in Linus's cost overhead?
We invest  heavily into our staff/business operations because I have a particular set of "end game" goals that MIGHT be different from other content creators.

Making great content that gets a ton of views doesn't take a huge team. Trying to build a sustainable business operation that (if all goes according to plan) could be capable of running seamlessly without yourself someday does.

There is a ton of merit to both approaches. Neither is "correct".

And to be clear, this is not an announcement or even a HINT that I'm going anywhere anytime soon. It's just the kind of thing where if I were to get hit by a bus tomorrow I would want my family to inherit a strong, sustainable business, and I would want all of my staff to still have jobs.

FusionDeck got a reaction from You_are_a_cunt in Motherboard IO [RANT]
I find it extremely frustrating, how motherboard manufacturers constantly overlook the rear IO, and how important it really is. Whether it is a lack of specific ports, bad layout or useless connectors, every company seems to keep making the exact same mistakes, and nobody really talks about it.

I'm not sure whether many people are in the same situation as I am, but I have a large amount of USB devices (8 in total) and very little motherboards have anywhere near the amount of ports I would need. Yes, I could just buy a good quality USB hub, but they are expensive (in Australia at least) and will just make cable management a nightmare. It really cannot be difficult or even expensive (please correct me if I am wrong) for manufacturers to pay more attention to the rear IO, and include what the average consumer wants.

This ASUS Z170-AR board has only 5 USB Type A ports, and a Type C. It's cheap board, and has great features, and is not bloated with stuff that is not needed. But, once again it seems that they have completely overlooked the rear IO. Almost every consumer will use more than 5 USB ports, yet no thought has been given. Worst of all, there is a huge space where more ports could be added, but no.

The Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming1 board is a perfect example of how well the rear IO can be organised. Basically every available space has been filled with ports. It doesn't include any unnecessary ports, and has a good balance of everything a consumer would need. They have even be able to fit WIFI and dual Ethernet in, while still having 10 USB Type A ports, and a single Type C port.

It really makes no sense why a good IO layout is seen on more boards these days, considering that more and more people are focusing on expanding their desk setup, and sometimes using more than peripheral of each type. I'd personally prefer to pay an extra few dollars to see some more ports on the rear.

So these are just my thoughts, and I'm getting really annoyed at great boards, overlooking a key part of it's design. I'd love to hear what you guys' thoughts are.

Putting the business side of things aside (I'm sure they can find other things to compromise on, to sell higher quality boards), it would still be good to see better layouts on boards.

If there are GPU overclocks, there should be something like MSI Afterburner installed. As for CPU OC's best way is to either clear the CMOS, or google the default frequency for the chip.

Welp, with a generic sounding PSU, with the reported problem being amplified with the stronger GPU, I'm leaning towards the culprit being the PSU myself.

Any overclocks on the GPU or CPU? If so, try dialing those down. Could also be an overheating issue, but I doubt it. Either way, check the fans are all working (or pump if it is liquid cooled).

FusionDeck reacted to Tech Deals in gtx 950 or gtx 960 2gb
Others in this thread will disagree with me, but my answer is no, not really.

If you turn the detail up enough to pass 2GB, the frame rate on a 960 starts dropping.  This will only get worse over time.

A GTX 960 at medium to high detail (depending on the game) rocks along at 60fps really nicely at 1080p, 2GB or 4GB.

Source: Me - I have both versions in the office and I've messed around with both in various games, there just isn't a difference worth talking about in the use case of that card.

Disclaimer: I haven't dropped either card into a K-series overclocked chip running at 4.5GHz as I feel that is well outside the use case of that card.  The CPUs I've used are the i3-6100, the i5-6400, and the i5-6500 at their default clocks.  H110 board for the first two chips, H170 for the last one.

My current advice right now is that if you want to game at 1080p at medium to high detail, a $180 GTX 960 2GB card will do well.  If you want to game at 1080p with everything at ultra in every game, you need a GTX 970.

To be perfectly honest, we've had as much as 50% of the company out of the office sick at times in the last month or so.

Combine that with this being the time of year when literally nothing comes out (seriously half of our meetings at CES went "yeah we don't really have anything, but just wait for Computex") and it's no wonder we look tired.

I've thought some of the stuff we've done recently has been great, I've thought some of it's been "okay", but not really any different from normal imo.

FusionDeck reacted to LinusTech in I think LTT makes up a majority of Vessel views...
IT's late and I'm both hungry and tired from shooting Scrapyard Wars (which by the way is an LTT series and will be airing ad-supported on YouTube very soon for your viewing pleasure).

But there are a few points to address and you've already been patient enough.

I said LMG content would always be free. This was poor wording on my part. There has always been content produced by me and my team that was not necessarily available on a free platform like YouTube.

These "The Boost" videos that we make on contract as a sales training resource for Intel, for example:

In much the same way, Vessel has contracted LMG the production company to create an original series for their platform. They bankrolled the whole thing, giving us an opportunity to make something that otherwise would have been too costly, and per the licensing agreement they own the right to exploit this content. It's their show until such time as they decide it's not anymore.

We played more of a "production company" role in this than we're accustomed to.

This could, and SHOULD have been communicated better, and for that I'm sorry. The community should have heard about this from us FIRST, and not from a random email newsletter, but I've been (and so has the whole team) absolutely busting ass to not only get Nerd Sports produced, but also make sure that we're keeping up with everything else that we've got going on including not having missed a single day of LTT uploads for something like 5 years..

With that said, quantity isn't everything, and I've noticed that not everyone has appreciated the LTT content as much as usual lately, but it's hard for me to tell if that's because they don't like our new direction (fewer reviews, and more exploratory or experimental videos) or if they just saw a video or two they didn't like and raised hell in the comment section - it wouldn't be the first time.. And I will say, too, that honestly if a couple of the videos felt rushed then it's probably because they were.. HOWEVER, the primary reason for the rushed videos was  the entire week we're taking off this week to film Scrapyard Wars Season 4, which will be premiering on Vessel sometime in the next few weeks or so, followed by a release on YouTube 1 week later, which is the standard agreement for OUR content that is paid for by LMG or our sponsors.

Nerd Sports was shot 40% during evenings and weekends with employees taking time in lieu later on when we hire some more staff or when things slow down a little. We were careful to avoid disrupting any of our other commitments because imo you guys deserve the best we can deliver.

Which is another point that was brought up in this thread - "How will LMG keep its commitment to maintain the pace and quality of the other content if they're making Nerd Sports or other contractual content?"

    We couldn't. We're hiring.

I've never shied away from investing in more staff or better equipment or a better facility to make sure that we're doing our best for ourselves, each other, our sponsors and our viewers. If we play our cards right, absolutely everyone wins.

Nerd Sports has been a fantastic learning experience for us, and whether we continue the series with Vessel, create other completely different web series in the future, or just say "fudge it" and flip burgers from now on, we'll be able to do those things better than we could have without having done this.

So bottom line is this. I screwed up the way I communicated "LMG content", which was meant to be content funded BY Linus Media Group rather than content funded entirely by and licensed to a 3rd party, and I screwed up in a MUCH bigger way the LACK of communication about this project. Sorry guys.

FusionDeck reacted to Rukai in Case Fan mounting issue, please help me, been at it for 3 or 4 hours now
I've checked the manual and as it turns out, NZXT designed the top of the case and only intended for their specific fans to be mounted. The images may not show it but there is a rail that cannot be removed that limits the amount of space for the fan, and only the stock fans or ones supplied by NZXT (A single model) will fit. I've checked via Google and plenty of other people have had this issue. I wish I'd know about it beforehand, I'd have gotten one of the newer Phantom versions...
