  1. I used DDU and installed numerous versions of the drivers, even back to 2016 - no change. With the drivers uninstalled I've had no problems so far, which leads me to believe that in fact the GPU is at fault. However, why would the sound also stop after a crash, if it's a video problem? Even if i'm not watching a movie, just listening to music on Winamp, a crash happens, the monitor goes black and the sound stops. Is there a reasonable explanation? This weekend I will try to borrow another card from a neighbor to see if anything changes.
  2. Here's a screenshot from today's history: https://imgur.com/zVku1e7 Details of the error: Description A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. Problem signature Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1026 Files that help describe the problem WD-20180411-2130.dmp sysdata.xml WERInternalMetadata.xml So it might in fact be the gpu? I ran Unigen Valley as suggested, the benchmark was completed without problems. What should have happened, if it had an issue? And no, no OC. I wanted to try, but postponed it several times and later forgot about doing it.
  3. All of them are Event ID 41, Task Category (63). If I'm not mistaken, this just means that the PC was restarted unexpectedly?
  4. No, first time I hear about it. Here's what I can find: https://imgur.com/tQu9OHM I'm guessing 50 errors and 5 criticals in the past hour is not a good thing? @another random person Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them now.
  5. Hi all! For the past week I've been having the following problem: Mainly while watching a movie (on VLC, Media Player, ACE Player - makes no difference), and rarely while watching YouTube, my monitor turns off, as if I've shut down the PC (it shows a "No signal, going to power saving mode" message), but all the fans are still spinning. All I can do is reset. Sometimes this is accompanied by white noise on the speakers, sometimes there is no noise. Sometimes this happens suddenly, sometimes the screen goes off and I can still hear the sound from the movie for a few seconds. Today this started happening even while browsing. This is even the third time I'm trying to post this topic, the first two times "it" happened. Overall it's happened more than 15 times today. At first I thought it might have something to do with the video card, but today I noticed that the HDD activity LED stops blinking when this happens - so is it possible that the ssd/hdd is faulty somehow? I've thoroughly cleaned the case, re-seated all component and re-connected all cables - nothing has changed. How can I determine if any component is faulty? Here is my configuration: Asus Z97-K I5 4690K 16GB HyperX Radeon R9 390 Kingston 120GB SSD Seagate 1TB HDD Windows 7 64Bit
  6. I'm happy to join the club I got the Redragon Vara: http://redragonusa.com/product/vara/ I've wanted a mechanical keyboard for a while, but the absurd price has always been a strong deterrent. This is probably one of the cheapest options available - found it on sale for $47, which is a reasonable amount for my taste. Obviously, as I have no previous experience, I cannot compare it to other mechs, but I'm thoroughly satisfied. I like its minimalistic look and absolutely love the clickety-clack. The red lighting is not intrusive and allows for perfect readability at night. I'm not a big fan of the font of the letters, but it's not a big deal. My only big complaint at the start was the small Enter key, however I'm adapting to it pretty quickly. Overall, it's a great upgrade from my 6-year-old Logitech. I can only hope it'll last for as long as the old one did.
  7. Have you actually used it? I really like it on paper, much more than the Zalman counterparts, but I'm still not sure if it's worth it.
  8. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/noiseblocker-nb-eloop-fan-b14-1-140mm-fg-059-nb.html I really like the eLoop's concept on paper, but I found several negative opinions concerning weird noises and rattling, which made me cautious. The 140 mm versions came out not long ago and I was wondering if anyone has personal experience with them and if they have the same problems as the 120 mm.
  9. I decided to cheap out and bought two second-hand Noctuas (NF-A14 and NF-S12B). It seems that the previous owner did not take care of them at all, because they were filthy. I mean Miley Cyrus riding a giant pink dildo filthy. The can of compressed air I have was unable to overcome the layers of disgusting stuff, so I used about a dozen alcohol-based wipes to clean each individual blade and the entire body of the fan. However, they still feel "icky". What else can I do besides putting them in the dish washer? Can I remove the propellers and will that void the warranty? On a different note, while I'm not impressed noise-wise (the A14 has a very distinctive "hum" at 70%), I'm blown away by the air flow (pun intended). The S12 pushes significantly more air at 40% than my stock NZXT 140 mm at 100% - color me amazed!
  10. I've been meaning to try that, just to check how the PC would sound with the fans off. However, is it safe for the CPU to operate without cooling? I guess with the radiator still on and only for a short period it would be fine /it's not OCed/.

    PC Noise

Which model do you have and what exactly do you mean by "heats up"? I was expecting temperatures up to 90 degrees, but the highest my Sapphire has gone is 66 (Witcher 3, Ultra settings, 1080p) and the increase in noise is negligible. I'm quite happy with it
  13. That sounds like a good idea. My birthday is in March, i'll put off buying anything else until then and if I still feel enthusiastic, I'll treat myself to some goodies
  14. Hello there! Recently I spent approximately $ 1,200 on upgrading my PC, changing everything but the SSD and HDD. I don't know what this amount means to people in developed countries, but here in Bulgaria it's relatively high (equal to about 5 minimum monthly wages). I decided I would not buy anything else, but then I started reading about silent fans, fan controllers, magnetic dust filters, etc., and the tiny enthusiast in me woke up. Since then I've watched and read over a hundred reviews of different accessories and I want them all! Well, some of them. I'm lucky enough to have a good job that would allow me to afford such purchases without putting an unreasonable strain on my life, but the deep-rooted reasonable part of me outright refuses to justify them. For example, i bought a Phantom 530 for $110 and now I really, really, really want to get a full set of DEMCiflex filters, valued at $60. Since they are not available in my country, including shipping the price would exceed the cost of the case, which is so far beyond unreasonable, I dare say it's preposterous. And yet I sit and look at the case, imagining how it would look with the filters on. Am I going crazy? I presume that most of you are "enthusiasts" - how do you balance/limit your enthusiasm?
  15. That makes a metric ton of sense. Ah, physics, aren't thou a heartless b*tch! Thanks!
  16. Hello! My current setup includes: NZXT Phantom 530 (with the stock 200/140 mm fans), i5-4690k + Hyper T4 (no OC yet), Sapphire R9 390. I keep the fan hub switch to "Low", i.e. 40% fan speed. At this setting, according to HWMonitor and AIDA64, the CPU and GPU idle temperatures are 29 and 44 decrees Celsius, respectively (which I think is perfectly fine). Just out of curiosity I decided to check the temperatures at "High", i.e. 100% fan speed. In the course of 5 minutes there was no change whatsoever. I did not expect any substantial difference, but no change whatsoever??? There is audible and visible difference in fan RPM after the speed change, so I presume all connections are OK. Why would there be no change in temperature?
  17. For the sake of honesty I should say that it was me who was at fault, not the PSU. I clearly saw the 10-pin connector dangling from the 18-pin connector. I clearly saw the 10-pin slot above the 18-pin slot at the back of the PSU. It just never crossed my mind that they need to be joined in holy matrimony, as was explained to me by the kind technician at the store. I feel like an idiot. Hope you have a few laughs at the expense of my shame
  18. Well, I tried it and nothing happened. I'll be returning the unit tomorrow. I guess anything is possible in the tech world, even a faulty piece of "the best 850W PSU out there". Thank you both for the help!
  19. Strange, now it works for me, too. Thank you for the other link, it's exactly what I was looking for. Although, now I'm scared to try - a friend of mine almost yelled at me for even thinking about doing it. What could actually go wrong with this paper clip test, provided that I'm smart enough not to touch it while live?
  20. Hello! I suspect that my brand new PSU (CM V850) is faulty. I'm trying to post outside the case with it, nothing happens. Then I tried with my old PSU (Corsair CX500), the LED on the MB lit up and the fans started turning. I tried once again with the CM, rechecked all connections, but still nothing happens. How can I verify that it is faulty? I don't see a green wire on the 24-pin header, and the link showing how it should look like is not working.
  21. Ah, so that's what the thing in the bottom right corner is... Thanks, Naeaes!
  22. It's from a Bulgarian site like eBay. It's used, without warranty. What exactly should I look for in BIOS?
  23. Hello! Now, I don't know much about CPUs, but I do know that $110 for i7-4770k is a suspiciously low amount. My fake sensors are tingling hard. What are the odds it is real? Is it possible to verify its authenticity within 15 minutes (the time allowed for testing upon delivery)?
  24. Thank you all for the advice. I was rather excited about this change, which goes to show how little I know about these things. Back to the drawing board!
  25. Hello, guys! I am a long-time follower of LTT and first-time poster. Holidays are coming soon and I've been wondering whether to utilize the inevitable discounts to upgrade my current PC, so I came here for some advice. My current setup includes: Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H Athlon X4 750K Sapphire Radeon R9 270 HyperX Beast 8GB, 1600 MHz I checked the list of CPUs supported by the MB and 7850k seems to be the best option right now. CPUBOSS gives it 8.7/10 compared to 5.8/10 for the 750k. Is that a reasonable enough "jump", considering that probably there won't be much more room for upgrade in the future for socket FM2+ (unless I'm mistaken)? Otherwise, I'm thinking about 16GB RAM, 2400 MHz (probably Beast again) and R9 380/390, depending on how much of my wallet I decide to sacrifice. Should I consider changing the MB to something with AM3+, so that I can get a better CPU, and leave the GPU upgrade for a later date?
