Brand new SSHD is slow, but not sure what is causing it.
Voitokas replied to Voitokas's topic in Storage Devices
Well maybe, but if I had the same issues with my previous normal 7200rpm hard drive, how can my brand new drives' performance be as bad? It cannot be the drives' fault, it must be something else. -

I am pretty sure AHCI mode IS enabled, I'll check in a minute. It's an HDD with 8gb cache. So it is essentially a bit faster HDD, but even the most mediocre HDD's shouldn't be as slow as mine. And I greatly appreciate that you replied. Just checked, ACHI mode is enabled. -
Hello, I have some issues with my hard drive. It is really slow, I mean really slow. But it's weird that it isn't slow all the time, only randomly. Sometimes it's fast and sometimes it's slow. I don't know what is causing it, but it is a brand new drive, and even my old drive had the exact same issue so I though it was the drive that had issues, now I'm starting to worry that it is motherboard issue or something. I have tried to search google but I haven't found any solutions. The drive in question is Seagate FireCuda 2tb SSHD, but I had same issues with Seagate BarraCuda 2tb HDD too. I have had the FireCuda drive for a couple of weeks, but the issues I had were present from the start. I have tried to do tests with safe mode ON and antivirus OFF but it is not helping very much. The drives sequential speeds vary greatly, sometimes seq. read is only 6 mb/s but sometimes it's 250 mb/s, seq. writes are a bit higher all the time though. IOPS vary greatly too. I have tried to use different SATA ports and different cables, no effect. I am not currently using the BarraCuda Drive as I don't have any need for it. I keep it as my backup. I have no idea what is causing the issue but my guesses are that it's motherboard issue or operating system (Windows) issue. Here are some random results at different times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try to do the benchmark in safemode in a bit
-
Probably.
-
Mattered every time I have tried. It gets slower and slower over time.
-
It got worse because of the bigger file transfer size, I put it in 2gb

BRB, testing again.

I have not.

My hard drive is really slow for some reason. It's a brand new hard drive and I don't know what is causing the issue. The hard drive I am using is Seagate FireCuda 2Tb SSHD which should be at least equally fast as other mechanical hard drives but my drive is performing very poorly. My old hard drive had the same issues. It is usually at 0% load if I am not doing anything, but "rundll32" windows process is using it a lot, like the 90% of it. And my anti-virus is using it like 5% usually. I have no clue what is the issue or how to fix it, so I am asking the nice community and experts at Linus' forums. I am starting to think that the issue is caused by somewhat old motherboard but I have no clue. I have used many reliable anti-virus and anti-malware applications but I have not detected anything. I am not sure if I still have a Trojan on my PC as my anti-virus detected and supposedly deleted it 3 weeks ago. I have heard that you really cannot see the SSHD's true performance since the SSD portion cannot be accessed, but I can still show the benchmark results which are below. You can ask me anything that would help solving the issue, if it is even possible to solve it. Thanks for you time and effort.

To answer the question on how I feel, I'm a bit salty. I have not had my 980 Ti for long and now a new better cards are coming so I am a little bit pissed. I just might get a GTX 1080 if the benchmarks look good and if I can sell my 980 Ti to my friend.
