Cheapish motherboard for Xeon e3 1231 v3?
SupermanSkillz replied to SupermanSkillz's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I have seen some posts about older motherboards (such as the h81) requiring you to update the bios to be able to use a xeon on them. Which you cant do without the correct cpu in the motherboard.- 7 replies

Cheapish motherboard for Xeon e3 1231 v3?
SupermanSkillz replied to SupermanSkillz's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I just did some more research and they do seem to have most of what I would need. They only support up to 16gb of ram but I don't see myself needing more than that. I do have a 500gb sshd and a 1tb HDD. Would a board like this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/zm6BD3/asus-motherboard-h81mccsm utilize my sshd and my r9 390 and the xeon? Is there any real draw back going for a h81 like that one or these ones over the ASRock? - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/LKW9TW/gigabyte-motherboard-gah81mds2 http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/wQFPxr/msi-motherboard-h81me34- 7 replies

Cheapish motherboard for Xeon e3 1231 v3?
SupermanSkillz replied to SupermanSkillz's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I saw some h81 motherboards for pretty cheap, but they seem very featureless. I will probably get the ASRock B85M Pro, but I will wait a little while and see if anyone else has any suggestions.- 7 replies

The AOC G2460PF has freesync and a good response time but I don't know how much it is for you. Maybe you could get a better one for that much. Also, freesync is only for amd gpu's.

The AOC G2460PF is a good monitor but what is your budget?
-
I don't want to spend too much on a motherboard and I don't really think I need to since the Xeon can't overclock. I am kind of stuck between these two. The ASRock B85M Pro3 and the ASUS B85M-G. I am slightly swaying towards the ASRock. Do you guys think I should go with the ASRock one or do you have any suggestions for around this price range? I don't want to spend more than around 50-60 euro. I'm using http://geizhals.de/ to compare the prices and some other sites. (I live in Ireland) The Asrock is 10 euro cheaper. I have a r9 390 and I am getting a Xeon e3 1231 v3. It doesn't have to be B85 but they seem like the best value for money (features wise). Thanks in advance!

Got a new PSU, everything seems louder and hotter.
SupermanSkillz replied to SupermanSkillz's topic in Power Supplies
It's not too bad now. It seems to only happen for a little while when playing intensive games and then quiet down again. I was worried that something might have gone wrong when I was putting the new psu in but everything seems ok now. Thanks everyone! -

Well it seems a good bit louder at times. Could it have been that my gpu wasnt getting enough power to power the fans at full speed? -
I bought a Seasonic M12II Evo 620W PSU. It arrived yesterday and I swapped it out for my cx600m. I have a r9 390 and was advised by a few people to get a better psu for it. The psu seems a bit louder than my older one, or maybe my pc is running louder. Do I have to do something? I went away from my pc a few minutes ago, and when I came back in to the room it sounded really loud. Usually my pc is quite quiet. I was running GTA V when this happened. I also checked speccy so see my temps and they were all around 60 or a bit higher. I just restarted but I am worried I might have messed something up during install or I have to configure it or something. So pretty much, I got a Seasonic M12II Evo 620W to replace my cx600m and everything is much louder. Do I need to change something to make it quieter or is everything ok? My pc also seems a bit hotter. I also have no OC's.

Quick CPU Question
SupermanSkillz replied to SupermanSkillz's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
If I was to overclock it high enough to see a big difference, I'm pretty sure I would have to get a watercooler. That would be like 150. Which is half of what i would pay to upgrade, so idk... Also, if I upgrade, I can sell my old cpu + motherboard for like 100+. From what I have seen there's a good bit of an fps difference between them and that's before I OC the i5. So... I would be upgrading to an i5 + motherboard for 200 euro. I just wanted to make sure that there would be a good enough fps difference between, I watched some videos and I am pretty sure it's worth it. -

Ya, but I don't think it will make much difference in arma. -

Is the 4690k much of an upgrade though? If I will only get about 5 fps extra in arma with it the there's no point. -

there's only like a 30 euro difference. -
I have a FX6300 Black edt. I am getting pretty bad fps in arma 2 and 3. My gpu is a r9 390. I was think of getting an i5 4690k but I would need a new motherboard aswell. Should I buy a good watercooler instead and OC my FX6300 or would I be better of getting an i5? The watercooler would of course be the cheaper option... but idk if it will make much difference in Arma and GTA V.
