  1. I have a hard floor in my computer room and I always drop my headphones and controllers on the floor by accident when the cords are pulled by my pets or my chair. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a floor mat that will soften the area around my desk that will still allow for me to smoothly move my computer chair?
  2. I'm not sure why I didn't even consider an extension cord. Thanks for the suggestions!
  3. I bought myself a pair of Shure SRH1540s a few months ago and have come to REALLY hate the cables it comes with. It's extremely short and ends up wrapping itself around my computer chair's arm and pulling my amp off the desk when I turn the chair. I saw in the recommended sticky that the recommended cable was the Linum Bax, but they would cost 75 euros, or $85 US. $85 just for some cords to headphones that I already spent $500 on seems like a really steep price. Are they worth the cost, hearing quality wise? If not, is there a cheaper cable I can purchase that is simply longer than the ones that the Shure line comes with? I wouldn't mind the cable getting tangled on my chair, but if it were long enough, it would at least not drag my amp of my desk.
  4. From my experience, headphone mode turns the audio into complete garbage. I don't what it is or how it works, but it makes everything so much more muffled. Same with the default equalizer settings, it sounds horrendous on default. Not sure if that's my sound cards fault or if I've grown so accustomed to the adjusted sounds.
  5. Is there another way to get 7.1 virtual surround on headphones without a soundcard? I want to be able to hear from as many angles as possible when I'm playing FPS games. Also, does anyone have any recommendations on which brand of cables I should buy to connect my amp to my computer? It requires a cord that connects from the green port in my computer to 2 RCA ports on my amp. I believe my current cables are the cause for the sound interference I get when they are touching other cords.
  6. There is noise when I turn my volume up extremely loud, or when my cords are stacked on top of each other. Would a DAC negate both of these? The cord thing can get pretty annoying sometimes because I have to find just the right spot to place my audio cable in order for it to stop making white noise.
  7. So there isn't any quality difference between a up to date motherboard and a external DAC? I plan on getting the Shure SRH1540 headphones ($500), and currently have a $60 ROLLS amp (http://www.amazon.com/rolls-HA43PRO-CH-Headphone-Amp/dp/B00102ZOQC). This amp is about 3 years old now, so I wouldn't mind buying the Magni 2 if it would likely be a good upgrade. So my options are: DAC/AMP combo Magni 2 AMP and a separate DAC Only Magni 2 If an external DAC really isn't necessary for these headphones, I'll just buy the Magni 2. Also, a question about my wiring setup. I currently have a cheap 3.5mm stereo cable that splits into 2 RCA cables that connect to my Amp, which I have my headphones connected to. The RCA cables are necessary for my amp to work. Is this setup fine, or is it creating a bottleneck with the quality? Are there any high dollar cords I should consider purchasing to connect from my sound card to amp/dac?
  8. I actually meant to ask whether or no the amp does anything other than increase the volume range. I don't get any static noise from the amp I currently have, and it gets plenty loud. If it doesn't actually change the quality of sound, than I'll just buy a new DAC. Speaking of DACs, what exactly do they do, and does anyone have recommendations for a good DAC? Nice, I'll take a good look at this.
  9. Does the amp change how much you can turn up the volume? I don't even go past half on my current amp.
  10. I'm conflicted between Those look like they are extremely hard to get. I need a new pair within the next 2 days. Now I'm even more conflicted between open ear and closed ear. I'm considering getting the HiFiMAN 400i. Anyone else for open ear or closed ear?
  11. How do you set your computer to get decibels and what exactly does it to? Increase the sound ranges? Editing in this forum confused me. Mistakenly double posted.
  12. I plan on using them for gaming and watching shows/anime. Music occasionally, but I would prefer quality focused more towards watching shows. I would also like 7.1 for gaming, so equipment recommendations for that would also help. I do have a $60 ROLLS amp, though I honestly couldn't tell the difference when I compared using an amp and not using an amp through my sound card.
  13. I'm looking for over-ear headphones that are within my $600 budget. I've been wearing Sennheiser 380s for the past 3 or so years now, abusing the hell out of them, and they have finally fallen apart on me. I am also interested in your opinions on open-ear vs closed-ear headphones. I generally prefer to have the sound isolated because of the amount of background noise that might occur in my house, but if the open-ear headphones sound that much better, I may consider trying them out for a change.
  14. I don't plan on buying speakers. Anyone else support the Schiit brand for amps? If I'm going to spend $200 on an amp, I want to make sure it's the best in its price range. Do I also need a DAC for my headphones? How much should I reasonably spend on that? I have no idea what you are talking about. Could you elaborate a little for someone who has little knowledge of sound devices?
