  1. Not sure if you saw but Ryzen 2nd iteration is meant to be released in April, might be worth a wait if you're not in a rush
  2. Thanks for the response guys, if I can stretch my budget to get an 8700k I'll end up doing that, if not the ryzen 1700 looks like a pretty great deal for what it is! Cheers for the help
  3. I'd say I'd want to spend like a maximum of 800GBP but it could always be stretched if needs be! Is ryzen really performing? I've been verryyyy out of the loop this last while I had looked at the 8700k, only reason I was looking at the 7800x was because it was cheap-ish bundled with a motherboard. Is the 8700k the one to beat in that case?
  4. Hi there, Title basically says it all, I want to upgrade my rig to handle streaming a bit better. Currently running an i5 4670k and a GTX 970. It's a fine build but I'm forced into using NVENC encoding because my CPU can't handle x264 and games. My issue is I don't know whether it's worth dropping the money on a 7800x, x299 mobo, ddr4 ram and a new cooler for big money or upgrading to the slightly older 7700k for a bit cheaper. Main question is, is the 7800x likely to give me a much better streaming experience because of the 6 cores or is the addition of hyperthreading and a faster clock with the 7700k going to be enough for 1080/30 streaming? Also, is the future proofing that comes with x299 worth it and is there a chance we'll see some black friday/cyber monday deals? Upgrading to a 7700k from the i5 seems like a lot of money for not much performance but maybe i'm wrong Cheers
  5. Not to shill his brand but mod mic is genuinely a great solution if you don't need studio level audio quality, if you're just going to be using it to chat to people on discord you can't go wrong with one I plan on getting one as soon as I scrape some money together (or get a job, whichever comes first) because it removes the hassle of having a boom arm in front of me when I'm just playing games with friends!
  6. If you were considering the blue spark it comes with a popfilter and a shock mount included, a cheap boom arm from amazon would do for a while and a scarlett solo is a good USB only (no mains power) interface with 1 XLR input, 1/4 inch jack for line in/intstrument in and a 1/4 inch jack for headphones (with direct monitoring so you can hear yourself speak with no delay). If I remember correctly I got my mic from Thomann.de as they were the cheapest provider at the time but that was a while ago! Also i've had a truly 100% plug and play experience with the scarlett interfaces across windows, mac and linux so that's always nice
  7. I would suggest staying the heck away from a blue yeti, if it's freestanding it'll pick up any noise that reverbs through the desk and when you've had enough and want to upgrade you're stuck in the yeti ecosystem with the only option being a shock mount as expensive as the mic and the rode boom arm because cheap ones won't hold that hefty weight! When I moved from the blue yeti I went with a blue spark, it came with a shock mount/pop filter and it was light enough to be sturdy on my awful 10 pound boom arm! Stays in front of my mouth and out of the way, it's been pretty great! Although, it forced me to get an audio interface for the XLR in but when shopping for headphones that turned into a blessing because it removed the cost of a preamp! And as for headphones I can say the best closed back ones I've used for all round performance have been Beyerdynamics DT 770s/990s although they felt very tight and got a bit sore after prolonged use. For open backs the best I've heard have been AKG K701/702/7xx and with the self adjusting headband and the massive ear cups they are the comfiest things ever, I wear them 24/7 with no issues. EDIT: Also if mic quality isn't a huge factor for you then maybe just look at getting an antlion mod mic with some even nicer headphones?
  8. Can I ask why you think they have a huge advantage? To me it seems like one of the fairest games (-RNG). There are advantages from learning the map and learning the best hidey holes but there's nothing above that really, a new player can walk around a corner and spray into the back of a rank 1 player and kill him, just because the rank 1 player had bad awareness. When I die in that game 99% of the time I can see what I should have done differently to prevent it.
  9. Seems really damn good but if the filling is big at all the shipping to UK is probably gonna bone you
  10. Yeah it should have no issues working, I've hooked up my phone to it to play annoying tunes over teamspeak (because my friends are just the luckiest :P) along with bass and regular guitars, all I would say is you have the crank the gain and the direct monitor was never really intended to be used that way. Potentially, you might be able to use like virtual aux cable programs to make it play regularly rather than with direct monitor. Also, 2 pairs of headphones in one tiny interface?! MY MAN! EDIT: I have no idea what my cables were but on the understanding it would be a stereo to mono connection I guess that is 90% the reason why
  11. As far as I know the only way this would work through the instrument input is when you turn direct monitoring on, also make sure the switch is on LINE for line in and not instrument. Also if you wish to output to a guitar amp (I think that's what you want?) You can get the 2 phono lead (the red and white circle connectors on the back) to 3.5mm to output and that should allow it to act just like a speaker, outputting both the direct monitor and the PC output. I might be completely wrong here, it is 4am so let me know if i'm wrong!
  12. hehe, yeah I guess it would be. And yeah, something like that but I was specifically talking about if you went to linustechtips.com/amazon it would bring you to amazon with the referral in and all
  13. I think it could be helpful if there was a Linus tech tips redirect to the amazon bookmark. Not sure if it would help or not but it wouldn't take that long to implement and it might help boost amazon referral money. Let me know what you think, I assume I've overlooked something! Was just a quick thought
