  1. With wireless charging, it used to be significantly less efficient than a cable. That problem with efficiency has faded as wireless charging can be nearly as efficient as charging with a cable. So question, how efficient is the reverse charging in new Samsung phones. As well, could we test it to see how efficiently you could transfer power from one phone to another. If you used a 100% 4000mah Samsung S20 to charge another device with a 2000 or 3000mah. Would you be able to get 50% of the 2000mah device with only using 25% of the S20's battery? Or more like 40 or 50% of the S20's battery.
  2. Additionally I guess I should ask if there will be any problems I may run into with running a GTX 2080ti in slot 1 and a GTX 970 in slot 2? It seems obvious that they'd be incompatible for SLI (which I am NOT trying to do anyway), but it shouldn't cause any driver problems or anything?
  3. My title was a little excessive but it says the main question: If I install 2 GPUs into my Windows PC can I set my games to use only 1 of my gpus? I have some code that does deep learning that is easy to set which GPU does the work, and so I'd like to multi-task: Run code in the background using 100% of GPU1 and then play games in the foreground with GPU2. I would REALLY like to do this without doing it in a VM.
  4. On my home PC I do a lot of work with python scripts in Windows PowerShell and I need a way to remotely access my PC. I simply need to be able to run scripts and move files around. I've never set up a VPN before, for myself, and would assume this is what I'd need. How do I start? What tools? What tutorials to teach me how to set it up?
  5. I'm curious to know more about this CPU aspect of this in DL. Since most of the DL I've worked with is image/signal processing, the heavy workload is on my GPU and I've been unaware of any CPU based tools for DL. Specifically the difference in the tools between the AMD and Intel chips. Although I'm not surprised non-Ryzen cpus turned out bad results for you. Considering the horrible track record AMD had up until Ryzen.
  6. Goal: Building a strong workstation PC that I will regularly use for training Deep Learning (DL) models with Pytorch and a decent amount of personal time spent gaming. Scroll to bottom to skip to tech questions. Currently I am running a FX-8350 with a 980ti Hybrid (overclocked) and 16gb of ddr3 ram. This has served me well but has 2 key caveats, the CPU is old and crappy, and I don't have enough RAM. There are many scenarios where I am training a model and since I can't load my entire dataset (20gb, so not that big) into memory then I'm reading from my SSD thousands of times every iteration (which obviously hurts my SSD lifetime), but also means I am spending 80% of my time waiting for a sample to read. My models train about 4-6x faster if I have the dataset in memory. This is a huge bonus for me, and I'm also going to be working with some bigger datasets this year and would love to keep as many as possible in my memory while training. Last note, I am considering getting a new graphics card, now or a little bit later depending on my questions below with PCIE 3.0 vs 4.0 and any upcoming NVIDIA launches. Note on CPU usage: I am using it for games as mentioned. But for DL I typically do computations involving the regular read/writing/preparing the data for the GPU but also sometimes computations like FFTs and other matrix manipulations in NumPy. Morale of the story: I don't believe my cpu usage is that strenuous at the moment, but grabbing a 16 core or above would give me more headroom for future projects. This is my current idea of a build. Is it worth it? I know the 3950x is very powerful and much better at boosting all cores at once, but the intel chip might give me better performance in some games. Opinions? 2) Quad Channel Memory with the I9 Intel Chip would technically have more bandwidth than the Ryzen 9 Dual Channel memory... Correct? 3) PCIE 3.0 vs 4.0. If I choose to get the I9 Intel Chip and limit myself to PCIe 3.0, would I be screwing myself in possible GPU upgrade options in the near to mid future? Any other advice? 4) I was considering getting a GTX 2080TI right now... but instead I was thinking of maybe waiting for NVIDIA announcements later this year. Based on rumors does it seem like the next series of NVIDIA GPUS are gonna be a big bump and worth the money? Worth it for me to maybe wait for a GTX3080ti (If that's a thing)? 5) OPINIONS?!?!?! Thanks so much for your time everyone! Cheers!
  7. Questions: 1) I want to know everyone's opinions about using the new spec for DDR4 Memory, where we can purchase individual sticks of 32gb? Is this reliable? Has anyone else used these yet? Any brands stand out as the leader in RAM? 2) I selected DDR4 - 3200 based on some reading about having the memory clock rate match the infinity fabric clock rate of 1600 mhz. Is this the correct choice for memory speed? I am focusing my build around the Ryzen 9 3900x, and maybe the 3950x. I haven't decided. I do a lot of Python computational work and am seeking the high thread count. I am also seeking high memory and would like to start at 64gb = (2 x 32gb) with the option to expand to 128gb = (4 x 32 gb) in the future. Thus is my question regarding the reliability of this new ram spec. If it doesn't make sense to use 32gb sticks yet then I'll have to bite the bullet and get 64gb = (4 x 16gb).
  8. Yeah people can argue that it helps aiming. I won't disagree either because I feel better with my 144hz monitor. So the answer is definitely "Yes, get 144hz regardless". 144hz has just such a smooth feeling and exquisite sensation that you don't go back. Then you start to sound like the rest of us when we bitch about a difference in like 10 fps drop. Lol
  9. @Sakkura Do you think the Oculus Rift with a ASW and ATW will run well on a GTX 1050TI? I understand that the 1050TI is minimum specs for Oculus, but a friend of mine is very concerned about motion sickness. I can't really give much of an opinion because all of the rigs that I run use higher tiered graphics cards and the Vive's so I haven't tried Rift yet.

    1. Sakkura

      Sakkura

Should run fairly well, enough not to make you sick. Maybe avoid a few of the most demanding games, like Raw Data and The Climb.

I've run an R9 290 before and after they enabled ASW on it, and it's been basically fine all along. It's not that much faster than the 1050 Ti.

  10. Dear People, Recently I did an outdoor event at a carnival using a few Vive Headsets as a VR Arcade. During the event our systems worked REALLY well except for a few specific times of the day. Is there some way on Vive or app to turn on the front camera or some kind of inside the headset that would show you where the headset was picking up IR signals from so we could track down what's causing the tracking problem? Maybe something that looks like the 3D front camera view but showed red colored lines or dots where it was getting interference from? Also, is there very much potential for the HMD for the Vive to overheat sometimes and cause any sort of problems? Extra info on what problems we were having: -Most of the mid day sun didn't cause a problem, but we started noticing tracking problems with some sunlight leaks coming into our tents. In one case it was one headset having a major problem at 2 or 3 specific points in the room scale. We ended up finding out that a car parked about a half a mile away was reflecting sunlight from it's windshield and just enough of it was shining through the trees to go through the front entrance of our tent (Entrance was facing away from the sun too which is why we were so confused for so long). -Another issue we sometimes had was tracking issues because of tiny pin holes in the top of our tent, or sometimes just worn down spots that weren't blocking sun. Cheers, Canto666Hades
  11. @SamStrecker Interesting... So it seems you've thoroughly messed with both platforms, any comments about the games on either platform?
  12. Hello People! My family and I have some interest in getting a VR headset. We are curious about the party games available on either platform. There is discussions all over this forum and other forums about pros vs cons but I have a few specific things I'm interested in, please provide input based on my questions below: **1-) What games are fun Party Games for each platform? Could you recommend one platform over the other based on Party Games (Something we want to be able to hang out together). Are there any Multiplayer games for people with 2 headsets that you could play with each other, are these online based or could you do a LAN gaming session? This is the main thing I am interested about. If you haven't tried both platforms but have some favorite games, then throw out some titles and reasons why you like it. 2-) In terms of quality how do the Rift VS Vive compare on these three things. -Quality of screen/Immersion (FOV?) -Controllers, which ones have people liked more? I've heard GREAT things about the Rift controllers. -Comfort of headset, I have a small form factor PC that I am going to turn into a Backpack PC so the Tether will NOT be an issue, but how about the rest of the feel.
  13. IMHO... Going so thin that you'd need an adapter for typical connectors is brain damage. Especially at that price point. Definitely think that a beefier laptop that had reasonable power, good IO including HDMI/Display Ports, Ethernet, USB 3.0 AND USB Type C, and etc. Extended battery life or even easy swap batteries would be the shit. Cheers, Canto
  14. Dear Awesome People, I am upgrading my parents computer tonight to Windows 10. My Mother's old 500gb HDD has gone far off the deep end so I decided to get her an SSD while I was at it. I plan on using the Windows 10 Free Upgrade and wanted to know what the best way to upgrade it would be. I have 1 old 500gb HDD and a new 250 GB SSD and 250 GB HDD. What would be the best way to upgrade her computer and do the registration? Just do an entirely new windows install on the SSD (Using her old Windows Key) and then transfer over files from the old drive to where I want them on the new SSD and HDD? Or should I select the SSD through the Windows 10 upgrade manager? Suggestions? Questions? Emotional Outbreaks? Thanks, Canto666Hades
  15. I like the idea of the E5-2670, I have always been afraid of touching the server chips because I don't know much about their Hierarchy of best to worst but you have definitely piqued my interest! What motherboard do you use? And may I point out how mind blown I am about the "Kinquin" Never ever heard of that place before!
