JediFragger reacted to Eigenvektor in AMD and Nvidia Will Make Arm-based Processors for PCs
The Snapdragon X Elite sounds very promising, at least on paper. But I think the real obstacle to adoption of Windows for ARM is software support, not just raw CPU performance or power efficiency.

Unless the software people need/want works on an ARM based machines, I'm not sure it'll get much broader uptake than it has right now. Plus the amount of legacy software on Windows is staggering. Apple had a much easier time forcing developers to port their software and for the rest there's Rosetta 2 (though I still run into the occasional issue at work where an M1 effectively prevents me from getting work done easily).

Let's hope Microsoft can pull off something similar. I suppose AMD/Intel would have the advantage of also holding x86 licenses, which might allow them to integrate some form of hardware accelerated emulation. If old software continues to run and new software is also made available for ARM natively, that would certainly be something.

That’s what they should be releasing, and that’s what this should be. A simple USB C update to the Apple Pencil, with two SKUs.

but the marketing and finance department found out about the engineering department trying to improve the product.

I refuse to involve myself with modern automotive tech. When I went to go look at cars I wanted something fairly mechanically simple for easier maintenance, and even the most basic of modern cars, a manual Nissan versa, has a backup camera, lane assist, and automatic pedestrian detection and braking.
It also has zero visibility, since the overall shape of the car and massively thick pillars make it this tiny enclosed box you can’t see shit out of.

So I bought a 30 year old compact station wagon instead. The most complex thing on it is maybe the fuel injection system, it has one airbag and the airbag doesn’t work, i can see everything out of it with almost no obstruction.

If you are concerned with the security of the electronics on modern cars, don’t buy a modern car, they’re all awful.

This is why I straight refuse to buy any car without carplay.

I don't want to pay monthly forever for a worse version of what I already have through carplay, and I don't want the car makers selling me.

Nope. Direct storage is already a thing it doesnt card that its next to it.

Nvidia just saved money and made the 4060 a x8 card and asus just saw that as an opportunity to add a couple more lanes for a ssd since it has 16 pins anyway

Guess I'll be grabbing a 13 Mini when I see a refurb bargain for the small updates so it will last me til nearly 2030...

Yeah who cares about ethics and systematic impacts of something when there are short term finacial gains, and simple linear or design thinking to do.

The people on this team will be fine.  The places for system wide thinkers in business only exist at best at the very top.  Hopefully they'll find a good job either in academia or become consultants in how to cope with the broken AI systems that will be pushed forward in the market.

It is slowly but surely trending down.
Not to mention this is Desktop OS market share only. Mobile is taking over (and MS lost that battle long time ago)...

Remember what Luke always says: ChatGPT will confidently lie and it loves telling stories. (Well, it doesn't actually feel anything, but it's just easier to get the point across with anthropomorphic language.) These articles are written to draw attention from people who don't understand that this isn't a machine with human-level sapience, like so many fictional characters.

Though, I can understand it going bonkers after only a few days of dealing with the public. I probably would too.

This is probably MS's only shot at taking the search engine crown, and all that lovely, gooey, user data, from Google. MS need to get it established before Google does the same, so forced it out before it was ready for prime time. Google, not wanting MS to steal a march on them, has also pushed theirs out the door before it was ready. Both MS and Google now look like clowns, leaving Yahoo! to make a triumphant return!
