  1. Would something like a corsair CX650M be good? It's bronze which is tier 3 iirc.
  2. Is thermaltake really this bad? If so, what 700w psu should I get?
  3. I'm planning on upgrading from a 970 to a 980ti but I'm not sure if my psu will be able to handle it. I've done a bit of research and it seems like I should be ok but I just want to make sure. PSU is a Thermaltake TR2 600w and the 980ti is just a reference card. Will this work?
  4. Well the scan finished and it came up empty so I guess I'm ok. Thanks guys. Sort of odd that this would happen on a site for a professional photo company but whatever.
  5. Alright I might give that a go once the scan is completed.
  6. I was looking at a local photography company's site and instead of getting the normal website, I got a red screen and a pop up saying that my passwords, credit card info, etc were at risk and a very legit looking (sarcasm) ms support phone number. I closed the page and started scanning with my anti virus (kaspersky, don't hurt me) but so far it hasn't found anything. Usually kaspersky freaks out about everything but I am sort of surprised it didn't say anything when I opened this website. I have checked my programs in the control panel and everything seems to be fine. Should I be worried?
  7. I hope so. Is there a way to wipe your ms account?
  8. Well, it managed to spread to my desktop which was also using that same Microsoft account. From what I remember, trovi looked like a basic browser hijacker but in reality it was almost impossible to remove with malewarebytes and some other anti malware programs. Everytime it was removed, it would redownload itself. Also I would create a new ms account, but that xbox live account still has 1.5 years of gold on it.
  9. Around 3 years ago, I used my Microsoft account on a Windows 8 laptop and got a browser hijacker(trovi). This browser hijacker spread to my desktop (both were running windows 8) which also used the same Microsoft account. I had to do a clean reinstall on both PCs and now, I just use 2 separate user accounts instead of linking it to a Microsoft account. However, with Forza Horizon 3 coming to PC, I want to use my old MS account since it is also linked to my xbox live account. By using my old MS account, is there a possibility that the browser hijacker will transfer as well? (I know that it is unlikely that it will transfer from windows 8 to windows 10, but I just want to make sure.)
  10. I've heard a lot about how bad their customer support is. Thankfully I haven't had to use it but I hope I don't have to with this card. Are there any benefits to the ACX cooler vs. the triple fan design on the STRIX? The FTW is $749 so it is out of my price range. I haven't heard much about the MSi version so I guess I might go for the STRIX. I am planning to do some overclocking so I guess I will go for a card with the 6+8pin.
  11. My ASUS 970 never gave me any trouble in the past, but I am wondering if I should consider any of the other brands like MSi or EVGA before purchasing the STRIX 1080. Also is the EVGA SC 1080 at a disadvantage because it only uses 1 8 pin connector instead of an 8+6 pin design?
  12. Alright and just to make sure, the STRIX 1080 requires both one 8 pin and one 6 pin right?
  13. I am looking to upgrade from a STRIX 970 to a STRIX 1080 and I've got a few questions. First off, will a 600W power supply be sufficient for this card? Asus recommends a PSU of 550W but they also say that the card can use up to 300W. Second, does anyone know what pin configuration the STRIX 970 uses? I am currently out of town so I can't check and it is not listed on Asus's website. I am asking this since I'm not sure if I have the correct configuration (8+6pin) required for the 1080. Third, can anyone with this card shed some light on how good or bad the temps are? My case is a bit cramped and doesn't have great airflow. My 970 reaches 67C at the hottest and idles at 28C-45C. Also, with two fans and a shorter length, would the MSi variant perform better in a case with bad airflow? Thanks.
  14. @HPWebcamAbleI don't actually have the 1080 yet so I can't test it. However, it is looking like I will be buying a Z97. Which brand is the best? @App4thatI'm probably going to go with a Z97 since the price difference isn't that huge. @BhavConsidering that I paid much less for the PC than the parts cost separately, I think buying Dell was a good decision. Even if I get a Z97, I would have still spent less than if I bought all the components and assembled it myself.
  15. @HPWebcamAble Will disabling safe boot do anything? When I upgraded to my 970, people on the Dell forums said that safe boot had to be disabled if the bios was not updated. Also, the BIOS version is from last year (they released it around Feb 2015). Is this too old for these cards to work? @App4that I have the 64bit Win 8.1 key that came with my PC so I think I will be fine if I have to upgrade the mobo. Also, a 500GB Samsung SSD will also be ordered with the 1080. I'm planning to get a 1080 instead of a 1070 but there is no way in hell I am going back to AMD. (its a very long story) Here is Dell's statement on the 10xx cards which is total bullshit: "The GTX 1070/1080 will not be validated by Dell on the XPS 8900 due to its 460w power supply. This also means that we will not be writing a bios update to address those video cards. If validated by Dell, it will only happen on the Alienware Area 51-R2 which has the 850w and 1500w power supplies."
