Cy-Fy reacted to Speedbird in Is Linux recommended even for a medium-performance PC? or just for OLD robocops?
Well, yes. It all depends on your needs. I can't switch to Linux because I need Microsoft Flight Simulator. And, AFAIK, you can't really play triple A titles on Linux.

Nope Linux is awesome I would recommend mint or Debian, there is a trade off a lot of programs aren't available and not so much games.

Cy-Fy reacted to Volbet in Advice on how to SPEAK English
I don't really care what people think about my speech. I know I might be hard to understand, but it's not impossible to understand. The people you talk will, most likely, don't mind if you have a hard time pronouncing words and will most likely don't mind you mispronunciations.
Of course I always work on getting better, and eventually I'll get there.

Cy-Fy reacted to xox in Does it REALLY matter what university you go to?
Well, after consulting various people, I have decided that indeed, it does in fact matter.
Good Universities have good links to industry, for example, Newcastle has a good link to GlaxoSmithKline Research and Liverpool John Moores has a very healthy link with the NHS and teaching hospitals in the surrounding area. Good universities will give you prestigious and worthwhile degrees. You are spending £27000 on it, so why not have a good one? Good universities look nice to an employer. Even if you didn't get a full degree there, if you get a place in Oxbridge, there is a large amount of prestige which comes with that. Although, even if you go to a mediocre one like Oxford Brookes or Liverpool John Moores, and achieve a masters, it is still a very worthy degree to have.
So maybe if you work your arse off, it doesn't matter so much.

Cy-Fy reacted to Opcode in Anything I should do before installing Linux Mint?
Actually it is as simple as "just install Linux and it works". Unlike Windows where drivers come from 3rd party installations Linux bakes it's drivers directly into the kernel. You may face some regressions where hardware is not supported out of the box but for the most part a majority of hardware is. Per example my signature rig works 100% out of the box with Ubuntu. Not one single driver needed to be installed.

Cy-Fy reacted to Speedbird in My mom's laptop is DYING slowly
The Cinnamon desktop is quite similar to Windows, but Xfce isn't that bad either. Don't worry, most of the stuff is just like in Windows until you open the terminal.

Cy-Fy reacted to Speedbird in My mom's laptop is DYING slowly
I agree on the Linux part. Your CPU is 64-bit but Win7 Starter is only 32-bit.
