Upgrade for FREE in the first year of windows 10 being released and you get it free forever.

After that first year if you have not upgraded, you will have to pay to upgrade.

You have to upgrade in the first 12 months in order to get the upgrade for free, after 12 months people will have to pay to upgrade

If you upgrade in the free period, you never have to pay and its free forever

Its more of the operating system than anything. Hey if you can load OS X on a windows laptop, go for it. But it will probably not work well.

"Most graphic designers automatically veer towards the Mac OS X platform as a matter of course. Partly this is a result of Apple's graphic design heritage. (Apple pretty much created the desktop publishing market back in 1985 with the original Apple Macintosh computer, combined with PageMaker and the first LaserWriter printer.)
These days most designers work in a purely digital format, and will be using very different software to that created back in the 1980s. However, Apple is still the choice for designers thanks to its more comfortable Mac OS X operating system, wide software support and lots of industry love."

Edit: I'm also serious on this: You DO NOT Need a huge graphics card at all. Like, for example, people who buy a GTX 980 on a desktop, will have VERY LITTLE difference to people on a laptop with integrated graphics. I recommend putting more money to the processor or display than the GPU. So to the post on top: a GTX 960M is overkill for graphic design unless HEAVY 3D work needs to be taken into consideration.

xubuntu and lubuntu are similar, lubuntu is much more lightweight. but xubuntu is lightweight while still not making many compromises to do so

Cy-Fy reacted to ManOfDisguise in Is Mechatronics a good career?
What I study a lot in Mechatronics is the different types of materials used(so something similar to metalurgy), technical norms/tolerances, different kinds of calculations like  how much stress a material/object can withstand, transverse stress, torsional stress(i don't know if these are the right terms in english), what material to use where, because Mechatronics aren't the type of Engineers who do a lot of hands on things in their work like they arent the guys who are working on the machines really, but they either program them, control them, examine them if they are functioning right, they maybe design them like which material to use, work in Autocad to make some 3d rendering of some idea or something like that. We have 2 groups of engineers in my school, the mechatronics and the other group are the ones who are the more hands on, who learn more about the machinery I guess and will probably be the ones working on the machines.

In Mechatronics you learn a bit of everything as the term mechatronics is a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering. This is also why these peopel are very valuable and needed. I heard from my principal that a lot of the srtudents who graduated from my school went on to do all kinds of interesting stuff, get paid really good, do things like design interiors of planes and all kinds of interesting stuff.

I didn't really know what school to choose to go to so I chose Mechatronics and it's a really interesting thing to learn and if you are into it it will be fun too. You will learn exactly how to draw a component/part in different views, give it dimensions, draw the insdie and outside, what materials to use, how much pressure it can withstand, etc.

For example now in class "Mechatronics" we are learning about different sensors and how they work. We make and connect an electrical circuit so it can power the hydraulic part and for now we are doing simple stuff like making a "piston"(if thats how i can call it) move(with the use of hydraulics or pneumatics) and of course the electrical part(the brain that gives information) and the piston moves, hits a sensor and that makes it move back to its original position. You can do cool stuff like change speed of how fast the piston moves in or out or even make it manual without a sensor(press one button - piston moves out, pres another button piston moves back in)

Sorry if I can't explain these terms well if you have more questions just ask I'll try to answer them

You'll be just fine OP, I had the same thoughts as you when I was around you age. I didn't know what I wanted to do as a profession. I thought about Graphic Design and Web Design so I took those classes in High School, I excelled in them and my teacher actually found me a job because he though I could handle it. I worked for a realtor during high school, managed his website and did photoshoping stuff for his property images(stop working for him after the contracted finished). But upon graduating I gave up web design and graphic design because I felt like I didn't have the creativity to compete with others in those fields.

I didn't go to college because of various credential and potential financial issues holding me back so I decided to go work at a IT support/computer repair shop because I was a computer enthusiast, I eventually quit because I felt like I wasn't being paid enough for the work I did(I kinda basically ran the guys shop). After that I went to work as a salesman for retail, and I learn a lot about business and attracting customers through that. I still didn't know what I wanted to do with my life until a couple of interesting events peaked my interest in stocks/economics and I made the decision to quit my retail job(which surprised my manager because I was doing well and was about to receive a early raise since I knew my tech well ^.^) to take on stock trading. And now I know what I want to do with my life, sometimes it takes a while for you to figure out what you want to do but when you find out everything will work out just fine as long as you progressively works toward it.

Don't know what you want to do with your life? Well go dabble, try out different things, and never settle for something you don't like doing! It'll help you obtain valuable experience in various different things and who knows you might like what you end up doing and decide to stick with it for the rest of your life. Now I'm a self employed Day Trader and I absolutely love my job!

Who knows where the future may take us; maybe we'll switch forums again but at least we've got eachother

I've been dual booting Linux since about 2004 on all of my desktops. If you're just browsing the internet or are able to use the open source alternatives for stuff its great.. You will run into issues getting things like Netflix and Amazon Prime video streaming working. It can be done bit it isn't always straight forward to get these things working in Linux yet. I always kept an install of Windows on my machine for gaming and for Netflix though.

Well, the only tradeoffs are the lack of game support for the most part and it doesn't really work well with Microsoft services (no OneDrive desktop program, minimal Skype). You'll also have to learn to get applications from the software centre instead of their sites and the Windows compatibility layer doesn't always work.

Lack of game support? Steam has 1600 games that work on linux. Sure it's not the 30000( probably more ) available on windows, but it's certainly a good amount. As for microsoft, ha screw their crap.
