they should perform about the same in games so I would go with the 7700K since it will be just a cpu upgrade while the 8600k would be a CPU and motherboard upgrade

There's thermal paste included in the stock cooler so there isn't a need to buy 1. And get a bigger capacity SSD, 120GB is only enough for a few programs + Windows. Plus get a copy of windows from Reddit since it's cheaper
