  1. Just found out that the motherboard does not support SATA hot-plugging.
  2. Can we please stick to the conditions? Windows only PLEASE. I want to squeeze every drop of juice out of this thing, running WINDOWS. So, which Windows OS, from 7 to 10, would give me the snappiest performance overall?
  3. Before 10, what OS was that rig running?
  4. Sorry, no. All the programs and PCs that we use in school are Windows-based.
  5. Wouldn't Windows 10 run faster on this machine?
  6. Dad recently lent me his rotting PC because my main rig broke. It currently doesn't have a hard drive installed. What Windows OS would be the fastest on this aged hardware? Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 2GB DDR2 RAM, will be upgrading to 4 soon
  7. This is my dad's old PC, btw. The mobo is an ASUS P5KPL-AM EPU, which I think doesn't support SATA Hot Plugging.
  8. When I had Windows 7, this little nusiance never showed up. I have no external drives connected whatsover.
  9. Anything cheaper? Like, seriously dirt cheap? $40 ( I know this sounds funny, but I'm broke atm. Just built my rig)
  10. He does play CS:GO once a while (lmao). At least something that will run it on 1024x768 on low-medium at 100 or more fps.
  11. Title says it all. This is my dad's old PC and I thought I'd do a favor and upgrade the GPU. The CPU is a Core 2 Duo E7400 and the PSU is a 500W sketchy Powerlogic thing. What GPU that's powerful enough yet super power efficient would fit this situation? Pls don't bring your first-world PC problems here and suggest to upgrade the whole rig. Dad doesn't want to spend money on a PC that he uses once a week.
  12. Finally convinced my dad to upgrade his RAM. Unfortunately, the mobo's limit is 4GB, so we're stuck with that. So I'm going for 64-bit now. Thanks!
  13. Thanks guys! Gonna reinstall Windows 7 32-bit since I love the classic UI. I did try 64-bit and it used 30% more memory in idle than 32-bit. so, 32-bit it is.
  14. 32-bit or 64-bit on 2 GB of RAM, personally?
  15. 32-bit or 64-bit on 2 GB of RAM? I have read a lot of posts saying that 64-bit on 2 GB hogs the memory.
  16. They say it isn't advisable to run 64-bit on systems with lower than 4GB of RAM. 64-bit uses more resources, about 300-500MB more RAM.
  17. Dad's shitty PC. He doesn't want to upgrade it, since it'll be a waste of money for him. I'm gonna do a clean install on it tomorrow. What OS would give me the best performance? P.S. Only Windows OS'es. From 7-10.
  18. Even if the CPU supports 64-bit? Would the performace hit really be noticeable?
  19. Is there a noticeable hit in performance between the 32 and 64-bit W7 on low RAM? I'm not even sure if I can upgrade the RAM.
