That is actually a legitimate legal strategy, without grounds to start litigation you cannot do it so if you need to create the situation to do so to try and get the legal ruling for or against then you do it. You may not like it but needs must sometimes.

Bottom line is if you feel something in or all of the ToS is not legal then you don't have to follow it. ToS is not the law. If the ToS is not legal then you are not breaking it, it was never valid to begin with.

Apple's ToS cannot prevent me from scratching my ass, that is not allowed. I can do it regardless of it being in their ToS 😉

Otherwise, hard agree.  Utility apps can look like Windows 95 for all I care as long as it actually works as advertised.

The engineering company I was doing work for during covid used this product and they largely pushed everyone but the engineers to use the free PDF Xchange. (Basically anyone who was using the adobe reader, but not editing things.)

The thing that annoys me about proprietary PDF products, is that they extremely mislead the reason for any kind of update. Bluebeams selling point is the collab server product. Hence you're paying for access to this server... and everyone decided to put this crap in the cloud in 2019.

    Summary
BlueBeam is a industry focused PDF viewer that many who deal with cad or archictectual design utilize as it allows for a lot of work to be done with existing PDF drawings. Previosuly BlueBeam had a perpetual license once purchased. Yet they were not as forver as implied.

These were set to expire 9/29/2023. Those who used to only pay a Maintence Fee (Active support) are now finding that they are being forced to upgrade to  the latest version of bluebeam, which is now an annual subscription, in order to continue recieving support.

The Current update is that as of now you can no longer be activate existing licenses on new machines, even if your old machine died.

This affects my company directly. At this point only two of the services we utilize as business critical do not have a subscription model, and only one of those two would be unable to remove that ability from us, though they could deny us future updates. The world is continuously getting greedier, and thus more expensive.

goodtofufriday reacted to leadeater in Intel Making a HEDT Comeback??? W790 Sapphire Rapids Workstation & HEDT CPU Platform Detailed
I just want to say Xeon W is not HEDT and X299 is not in this family of product announcement. HEDT still does not exist from Intel on the HEDT family product line.

Xeon W and Core X (HEDT) have always co-exited and are different platforms. Note realistically we don't use the same naming Intel does so I'm intentionally using community names for these things.

LGA2066 had two chipsets, X299 and Intel C422
    C422 = Xeon W X299 = Core X
From what I see here is that Intel is removing the split socket of Xeon W and going with a single socket and pulling the lower product tier up in to the larger socket. That means there isn't a new X299 coming and while you can buy in to this new platform it's going to cost a lot more than an equivalent X299 would have. Sadly because they have Xeon naming I don't think we'll get any RIP GN/Jay OC wars with them and I doubt they will get review samples or bother buying them, argh.

    TL;DR HEDT is still dead.

More cash grabs by MS. Been a slope ever since the Xbox ONE tried to do always online for ALL games. This will lock out a lot of third party accesibility controllers, especially if the creators cant afford to pay what ever license MS is going to look to get for this.
I see Nintendo following suit, but pretty surprised that sony didnt do this first. They may stay away to be competative, especially after the MS/Activision merger.

Yes, also contactless payment is very rare and often 3rd party non stand apps as well so no Apple Pay or Google Pay (limited places do support it but generally no). Also getting money in and out of the country is very hard, to your own bank account. Japan uses last name first and they reject so many transfer requests because "name does not match your ID", all sorts of stupid stuff.

They still widely use fax, floppy discs, miniDiscs, CDs, print literally every damn thing.

Corporate and bureaucratic Japan is literally stuck in the 90's, with elements of the 80's. Visiting Japan and living in Japan are different worlds.

Yeah I use Google Messages with RCS when I can, it's great.

At this point in time, there is 0 reason for SMS holdouts to convert to a "universal" service like Whatsapp, as most people realistically already have their preferred communication apps and don't want to have yet another app to check.

Also whatsapp is hideous and owned by Facebook

goodtofufriday reacted to Eigenvektor in Nothing announces iMessage for Android ... somehow
Yes but RCS only works between (supported) Android devices. Just as iMessage only works between iOS devices. So neither solution works across both Android and iOS. That's why some people want iMessage for Android, while others simply use alternative apps.

The fallback to SMS/MMS can be costly and doesn't necessarily support everything those alternative apps do (like voice calls over Internet or sending many large photos or even videos)
