Me and my mate went into CEX today to sell his HD7770 video card.

after about 10mins she said that the card was faulty and they couldnt buy it

as we spotted before, they had not connected the 6 pin power connection to the card so the fan spun up but no video.

so we told them did they connect power

    she said yes,

    we said show me

after she placed the card back in the test rig she went there it doesnt work

me and my mate looked at each other and smiled and said now connect the power

she looked at us puzzled so we pointed the power cable out

she then connected the card (with help from one of her work mates)

and what did you know the card worked first time lol

she then said that she thought the card was powered up because the fan was spinning

so a electronics shop that buys and sells computer parts doesnt know how to test video cards, im a little nervous of buying any other video cards from them in the future.

nope never heard of it. lets say your PSU is 400W and is 80% efficient. it would mean the toltal out put of your PSU is 320W, but most PSU's lose about 5% of there efficiency every year so your actual output might be a little under 300W, having a more powerful card might work but the PSU might not be able to run it for a long time.

it might be worth buying a PSU from a known brand like corsair, 500W should be more enough just make sure it says its at least 80+ bronze rated (mine is gold rated meaning its 90% efficient)

the real question is what wattage is the power supply and who makes it.

i have done that mistake of running a powerful card (9600GTX at the time) with a cheap power supply thats provided with these pre-built systems and the PSU just went bang when i was playing BF3, im lucky it didnt take anything with it.

now i use a Corsair CS550M which is a 550W Gold rated PSU which i bought a few years ago for £50 from ebuyer, im still using it today with my phenom II 1055T and GTX970

ok managed to get it to work

also port forwarded it just to be safe

didnt realise this was a thing lol, most i have come across are just fake virus ones so the necessary (be careful and make sure your antivirus is up to date) applies here.

i do however know that there is a ps3 emulator out there, still very hit "n" miss but its progress

your looking to the short term cost, yes pc gaming costs more to set up but you end up saving at least £2000 over the life time of a console. not to mention if something breaks on a pc you can usually replace the part very cheaply, if a console dies you have to fork out another £300 and if the 360 is anything to go by you might end up buying 3 or 4 in the consoles life time.

with pc gaming you dont have to pay a monthly subscription fee saving you £35 a year not only that games on the pc are cheaper than consoles (titanfall xbox one - £35 pc - £15 inc season pass)

you have to remember that consoles are not built for gaming (according to microsoft) and if you want the best gaming experience then a pc is the way to go. atm i can build a gaming pc that can do 4K gaming at 60fps for about £600 - £700 something that the "next-gen" consoles will never do and i doubt that they will be able to do for the next 10 years which by then pc gaming would prob of moved onto 8 or even 12k gaming.

what most people dont know (or should i say console players) is that when the "next-gen" consoles came out they where already 2-3 years behind pc, take my rig the gtx460 i am using is 2 years older than the xbox one (gtx460 came out in 2011 if i remember rightly) and its already on par with the new consoles but the best thing is i am still able to play the games the xbox plays at higher resolutions (1080p and 1440p) and still have higher fps.

take a look at this site, it shows that most games are either 720p 60fps or 1080p 30fps

hardline was ok but its not actually a battlefield game more of a spin off

in my eyes bf3 was the best as far as multiplayer goes (and lets be honest no one cares about the single player in battlefield)

i do have both bf3 and bf4 and the multiplayer on bf4 i didnt like as much as battlefield 3

i have the same cpu as you (just mine is overclocked to 3.50ghz)

payday 2 - you should get at least 120fps with everything on max

arma 3 - might be a problem since its a very demanding game and i havent ran arma 3 foor a while so i cant remember what fps you will get (also last time i tried to run it it was with a geforce 8800gts)

your build is very similar to mine (as you can see in my sig)

bf hardline 1680x1050 medium at 3.50ghz

    battlefield 4 high 1680x1050

    world of tanks 1680x1050 high

dont take it as an offence mate but you sound like nvidia fan boy, its not driver related because there is no drivers installed, hence the post.
nvidia also have there own share of problems, like scaling issues, refusing to work if you have a dvi to vga adaptor (gtx480 and gtx760 to name a few)

in regards to your suggestion i will try that and see if it changes anything

    hey guys

after my gtx460 died i am now forced to use my onboard gpu.

the problem is that it used to be picked up as amd radeon hd3000 but now just gets picked as amd 760G which is my chipset name.

i have tried installing the latest drivers via amd set-up and it just fails

i have also tried force installing via device manager and it still refused to install the drivers.

so i used older drivers and yet again it still refused to install.

now this is the first time ever that i have had problems installing the drivers for my on board and i have a feeling that it has something to do with my onboard picked up as the amd 760G and not radeon hd3000

is there anyway to get the drivers installed because at the moment games like minecraft refuse to work because theres no drivers (and yes the ones supplied with windows dont work with games either)

    cheers
