RedWulf got a reaction from coollll068 in FreeNAS requirements ?
I run it on 2gb, I only use it for movies and the memory is my limiting factor but it still runs and works.

RedWulf got a reaction from Dubesta11 in Windows will not reinstall
The obvious is probably all that you can worry about, and thats simply there was an error in the reinstall or reset.
Not questioning your reasons, but if you plan to reinstall or mess with the OS much you should invest in an install thumb drive.
You could try cloning the functioning laptop os to the ssd, at least for a temporary fix.
Sadly with no working operating system for the computer you are pretty much stuck reinstalling with a boot media. If you have a thumb drive you could us it or a cd.
You could try partition the ssd into one 16gb part and the another parition, using the 16gb as a boot media and installing to the other. Or for a temporary patch you could use wintousb and make the ssd a working windows.
Either way you'll need to download a windows iso (llegitimately or from getintopc.com) and either Rufus(for install) or wintousb(for a temporary fix).
The iso will be l=about 3gb which will take awhile and the other programs are about half a gig
You can try the cloning option but that has alot of troubles and without internet you won't be able to correct them and it may not even work.

RedWulf got a reaction from Tech_Dreamer in What stickers do You have on Your Laptop & on Your Desktop chassis ?
Design and a personalized cover are juvenile?
Plastering one's case in random stickers is childish, but some degree of tasteful aesthetic enhancement works for kids 9-90. People add vinyl to cars and ink to their bodies at all ages.
none the less, here my peace, simply my primary handle

RedWulf reacted to Ophidio in What's a good media editing keyboard
Honestly any keyboard that allows you to setup macro keys or shortcuts. Possibly the Corsair k90 would be one of the best since it has so many extra macro keys that you can use to set up things.

RedWulf got a reaction from Terrifis in Internet Issues!
Can you access other network devices/locations? Do you use static ips? can you connect other devices to the wifi?
a common issue is an ip address conflict
Check adapter settings in the ipv4 and set it to automatic or change it to something static, there are some youtube how-tos on this another option is to manually enter the ip and mac addresses into the router if it allows

clone dont just copy but yes, though it can have some issues. try it and if it fails do a fresh install as fixing it would be all but impossible.

RedWulf got a reaction from steezemageeze in Anyone else update to Ubuntu 16.04 yet?
I tried it live, doesn't seem bad though I had some issues with hostapd, I'm back on my installed 15 until 16.04 gets some bugs fixed and the community shifts

RedWulf got a reaction from messenger1316 in Best parts for a cheap NAS
It will work, 2gb of ram for the OS to work in + 1gb per tb of storage is a safe practice. If you plan to have more than like 4tb you need a better cpu to keep up though. As for the mobo, just get the factor that suits you and has 10/100/1000 ethernet you probably want more than 3 sata ports. The case depends on the MoBo factor but as long as it has the right number of drive bays it will work. If you use freenas you need a 16+gb drive just for the OS but you can use usb3.0 for that. PSU get atleast bronze rated for this.

RedWulf got a reaction from CostcoSamples in Custom Desk Ideas?
If you do alot of hardware work, a catch tray is always helpful to hold screws, small parts, screw drivers etc
I'd say a nice long power strip to charge devices and plug in various things without crawling under the desk. A ups as well
headphone holders, cup holder, the list goes on; pinterest and life hacker are great for these things

RedWulf got a reaction from LightCode Gaming in Unable to boot to USB?
ah, well if you're sure the usb is good then you may have to just replace the bios
It can vary with motherboards, you may want a new thread and include your mobo but here's a general starter
http://www.wikihow.com/Reflash-BIOS
Just hook the hdd to another pc and make it bootable with windows(wintousb) or the bios

RedWulf reacted to Oshino Shinobu in I need help!!
You can. You need at least one router that has a wireless bridge mode, which allows it to connect to the wireless signal from the primary router, then other devices can connect to it (normally through a wire) to also be connected to the primary router.
EDIT: If the router you want as the bridge support DD-WRT firmware, this a good guide: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/reuse-an-old-router-to-bridge-devices-to-your-wireless-network/
Also, have a look around both routers' settings to see if either has a wireless bridge mode on the stock firmware.

Either way, I'm not even that disappointed in a cheap router, but you can still have decent security with crap routers. This is full on 10 year old son of the manager needed a job
