    Laptop Ram Replacement

Normally there's no need to. If it won't boot up after you upgrade, remove the ram and the battery for a few minutes and try again. It's basically like turning the subsystem off and back on to kind of force the computer to refresh itself and accept the new memory.

    Laptop Ram Replacement

Normally its safe to replaace it, as long as everything is compatible of course, sometimes you do end up having to the the cmos, I'd look into the process for doing it on your laptop(popping the internall/cmos/coin battery for a couple minutes and make sure you're comfortable doing so first just in case
  4. I ran lubuntu and mint from a 2.0 cruzer USB on school computers just fine, wasn't a great option and it wasnt as snappy as I'd like but it was usable With a 3.0 with good rates you should be fine to use spotify, though I would say just get an HDD
  5. From here theres Assuming you know the basic format of the files as well as the structure of the files/folders then you should be able to use a bash/sh script to work through the txts and convert them using the command line tool or which ever language you prefer. My bash is too rusty to even attempt the code right now, but just a script to recursively check the folder system for the text files, run the program/tool on it as called for, and save it with the appropriate name. In windows, something like this

    HDD enclosure

Do you need 8? But either way with needing that many drives, and wanting specifically plex, I'd just build a relatively cheap server for like 350. Since you'd possibly need trans coding and whatever else that the router would not handle

    HDD enclosure

If that's just a usb hdd enclosure on steroids e, I'd say spend the same amount an actual NAS

    Building a Server

What currency? 15k USD or Euro...professionals
  9. If by fully support your gbps, you mean used nearly the full gpbs, I doubt you'll see that, I doubt you have any legitmate need or use to either. If you just mean use more than 100mpbs, I'd say it could see that. Your drives also take power, not much though just wanted to point out the power demand(also the board and the fans and the controller), but the real issue is getting an appropriate power supply since using the commonly available 300w+ supple isnt very good for the supply and isnt very power effecient. FreeNAS is another issue, 8gb is the minimum memory and it takes abit of computational power from what ive seen...try just ubuntu server with samba and nfs You could just buy an old mother board with 6 sata ports on ebay 10/100/1000, a corresponding cpu, etc rather than a controller...that also lets you get more processing power, explicit support for your ram, and tthere are plenty of lower power cpus that are better for the job and still pretty cheap to run As for building your own case: Fractal Design Define Mini or the Rosewill I5-397-BK ATX Mini There are serveral cases that support many drives and are under 20inches...theres also the option of just buying an external cage or rack to hold the drives and router the cables through the expansion slots

GTA V Media Pack Install Error

I haven't seen windows media player in 10

    500 us $ build

I'd try to convince him to go used parts, or buy a PS4 The others are solid builds(for the budget, since at these prices theres no use in scrapping over minor details) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CD4MgL

GTA V Media Pack Install Error

So, not much of a gamer, I may be missing the simple solution. Recently bought GTA V, downloaded the setup from Rockstar....and error As soon as the install starts, theres an error about the missiing the Media Feature Pack. I went through the common solutions on Rockstar and MS of installing the media pack(the latest and the linked versions) I also tried updating windows, and running the setup in compatibility modes....same error I do have windows on a separate drive from my primary storage, but I tried moving the set up to the OS drive. -Wiindows 10 Enterprise N -i7 7700k -Asus 1060 Any other solutions? Thanks

    Because RGB

Finally got to build a modern computer for myself rather than for others. I had originally planned on just going as black as possible and adding a strip of RGB LEDs for lighting(i7 6700, 8gb, msi procarbon)...but, I got into a pissing contest of specs with my friend having to one up him and I ended up with a a rather "lit" appearance in doing so. Its nothing spectacular, though I was previously using a core duo with 2gb ram and 250gb hdd. It took me a few months to get everything and get it running, but I have about $1500 or so in it counting additonal fans, cables, and led strips https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Mztrnn And yes I'm aware the CPU power cable running overtop of the board is abit cringe worthy, but the case is large and the cable wouldn't reach when routed around the back. I have ordered an extension, but it hasnt cause any issues and its secure, so I may not even bother correcting it until I have additonal reason to tear back into it.

    Dropping connection on Lan cable

Is it completely disconnecting or is the download just interrupted? If its just interrupted, I would be willing to bet its dropping the connection often and you simply don't notice because it reconnects. Either way, I think its likely your adapter causing the issue. I haven't seen any thing like this caused by a computer itself and if the other devices work I doubt its your ISP or router. If you can try another means of connection, do so first to be sure, but I'd start looking at other adapters...or just another solution since internet over power has a bad reputation.

Help me build a backup server

Might want to spend abit more on the xeon, but yes you don't need anything modern or high end for this. I would say just get a small HDD for the OS and then a few NAS/Server HDDs for raid 1(mirrors) or 10(strips and mirror). SInce the 2tb is already backing up to the 4tb, I would shoot for maybe 8 tb of storage min, thats a backup of all your drives+phone and OS. I would say just go with linux, either ubuntu or freenas, either will work fine, light weight, and free; and both have ample community support. You are pretty much looking for an NAS, which is why I suggest freenas. I believe freenas actually comes loaded for wake on lan and for backing up remote drives. As for parts, just go to ebay or server monkey and fine a used case, xeon, mobo with in budget, if you need help with compatibility just ask...I would however get new HDDs
