  1. It's been 4 years since the Threadripper and 1080ti, so it's time for new stuff. Space is limited so I got IKEA's tiniest desk with a drawer. The speakers wil be mounted to the wall within a few weeks. The Wacom as a second screen was a gamble but I'm loving it. My new rig has the 7950x3d, because of black friday it was cheaper than the 7800 The cooler isn't the best, but I did have to score a bit of wife approval points The GPU is the 4090 so it should be more than enough for the coming 4 years. And the fractal north... What a beautiful case. Very build friendly also. I can't control the RGB on the DDR5-6400 modules which is weird because aura sync does detect them. Got the rt100 mechanical keyboard with the silent switches because of the review on the channel. It's lovely. The monitor is some LG 4k which I got with my previous rig. Don't know the type but it supports 4k 60hz which is enough for me. I do audio and video production, CAD, 3D modelling and like to play Cyberpunk, GTA V, Skylines and the occasional JRPG. Hope the setup can get some love from you guys
  2. Been rewatching the AMD cpu videos on the channel and I'm a bit confused which is the best option for productivity. If I understood correctly, the 7800 is the best for gaming. But I'm doing 30% gaming and 70% Solidworks, Unreal Engine, Blender and rendering. Solidworks, for previews in photoview, still uses CPU only so more cores is better. And Threadripper is way more expensive than a 7000 series and not within my budget (was very pleased with my 1950x though). So which is the best pick at this moment?
  3. No, it's layers and layers of sub assemblies
  4. Yes, thousands of files. I did a test by having all files on my local SSD, didn't make a difference. So maybe a faster GPU may help, but the solidworks folks said it wont.
  5. Budget (including currency): € 10.000,- Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Solidworks Other details Upgrading from a HP Z4 G5, Xeon W 3,1, 64gb DDR5-4800, RTX4000 Hi people, We're getting bigger and bigger Solidworks projects. Essentially big factories with everything in it down to the nuts and bolts, 32.000+ Parts. Our solidworks supplier said my workstation is sufficient, but I (and my boss) was wondering if there is any way to make things quicker (don't bother with the 'large assembly mode'). Opening a drawing of a factory part can take up to 20 minutes. That's not the case with smaller assemblies and parts of course . Doing a quality review of a complete plant is impossible to do in solidworks. Our workaround now is to export the entire thing to HTML which we do at the end of the day so it's done the next morning. Hope any of you have some ideas what we can do.
  6. Hate to say this but OMG. Haven't seen them in real life so, because my Air 540 is so chunky I would have never that the 4080 can't fit in there. Thanks!!
  7. Could be a QC. Could be a card used for testing.
  8. Budget (including currency): € 3250,- Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Solidworks, Blender, Unreal Engine, casual gaming (but I do like pretty graphics). Other details: Corsair Air 540, blu ray drive, Samsung Evo 970 1Tb and some WD 8TB (7200rpm) Upgrading from a AMD Threadripper 1950x with a 1080ti. No screen and such stuff needed, just the system. It's time to upgrade. What I'm expecting is faster renders and a much smoother Cyberpunk experience. Also want to try one of the PS4/5 ports. Maybe Final Fantasy or God of War. I also hope that the new system will cut loading times in Unreal Engine 5. Going from AMD to intel because the new Threadripper is soooooo expensive and intel seems to be the most bang for the buck with this budget. Will appreciate to hear if my thinking is right or wrong. Always keep learning My choices so far: CPU: Intel Core i9 13900KF Cooler: Be Quiet Dark Rock 4 RAM: 32Gb G.Skill DDR5-6000 (2x 16Gb) <<Maybe I'll get 64Gb) Motherboad: MSI MAG B760 TOMAHAWK GPU: Zotac 4080 16Gb PSU: 1000w Be Quiet Straight power If the consensus is to spend a bit more to get a lot more power with a Threadripper, I have no problem to wait and save up a bit more.
  9. a fresh windows install will do. If not, then it's time to upgrade your hardware.
  10. Seems like your monitor doesn't support 75hrz. Just boot in to safe mode (pressing F8 a lot during boot). Then uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot.
  11. Hi people, A few years ago I built a rig with a Ryzen 5 2600 and a RX550 with 16Gb's of ram. Would a steamdeck be an upgrade to this system? I have no idea how powerful it is. It's just for the kids who play a bit of overwatch, roblocks, sims, etc. (I know about the workaround to get fortnite working on a steamdeck.)
  12. Hi guys and gals, I have a 8tb WD MyCloud Home and I put all my movies on it to share locally. I had a Plex server running in my PC, but I don't like to have to keep the computer running just to watch a movie somewhere else in the house. The computer, a Google TV and the WD drive are connected to the same switch. I installed Plex on it and made a library. From my computer, it works just fine. My Google TV says the Plex server is offline. My phone shows the same. Weirdly, when using VLC (both phone and Google TV) it can find the Plex server and play everything just fine. On the PC the drive is a mapped Networkdrive but when browsing the network is doesn't show up. My network is fully wired and I'm using Google Wifi for the phones and tablets. Why can't I see it in the network and why is Plex showing the server as offline but VLC has no problems.
  13. Had a similar problem. Simply placed the GPU in a lower slot to increase the distance to the CPU. BIG improvement. Also have a front fan blowing over the GPU and an exhaust fan above the GPU.
  14. Hi Guys and Girls, I build the occasional PC for friend, family and colleague. Been doing this for over 15 years or so. Had very bad experiences with Gigabyte motherboards in the past, unlisted compatibility issues, doa's and boards simply failing within a year. After a long time of buying any other brand than Gigabyte, last year, I thought: 'how bad can it still be'. So I ordered one (a B450 aorus m) for my uncle. Everything went great untill it failed last week. Also last week I received an B550 aorus pro, because I had no problems with the last gigabyte board right?... The new one seems to have a problem with the memory, I have 2 different DDR4 sets, listed as compatible. But they just don't work. Is this just bad luck, two times in a row? Or is this a Gigabyte thing? Seeing mixed opinions on Google. Was just wondering how things are seen here at LTT.
