A (more expensive) alternative to the 4690 is the Xeon 1231 v3 which has hyperthreading. It's basically an i7 without the integrated graphics unit. Otherwise you should, like the others said take a lower i5 wfor less money.

Chrome uses more RAM and although feels faster with one or two tabs open, once you open many tabs it definitely starts to slow down more then IE, especially on 2GB of RAM.
 
Same usage scenario with Chrome instead of IE, that 300MB or so might not seem like much but it's definitely noticeable in usage:

Windows works best at around 100-120ppi without scaling. Everything else needs scaling, which sucks.

There's a battlescreen up top that shows all of the map you're playing on. It's kind of cheating because in hardcore your minimap is turned of, but to my knowledge the battlescreen is not.

I wouldn't really recommend Blender for video editing. (well, 3D modelling/SFX maybe, but not bog standard edits)

I agree to a certain point.. but there can be a balance too. with $600 not including the case and such it can leave an upgrade path available on the cheap and with very similar performance.
 
But as the OP said, he will be looking for a new build in 2 -3 years so it's a moot point.. What suits 1 doesn't always suit others.. thats the great thing about custom builds.. you go for whats right for you.
