  1. So far chkdsk is running but seems to be hung up. gonna let it run for a bit
  2. I just swapped to a fractal torrent compact and now my 970pro that's been flawless for the last few years just decides to not show up. During the case swap I didn't even touch the m.2, it stayed covered with the mobo heat spreader/cover. The m.2 boot doesn't show up in bios but my hard drive with steam games on it does show up in bios I switched m.2 slots and turned on csm and can get the m.2 to show up, but when I exit bios it asks for boot media. Any ideas? It's a Ryzen 3900x Asus x570-e I tried making a windows 10 bootable usb and use the repair tool (when i had csm on) and it didn't work. I installed windows on another intel 660p and plugged the 970pro into windows and ran Samsung Magician on it, everything looks fine on it. So i'm guessiny the boot partition was currupted? I had my unraid server to backup my windows machine, but after the 6.12 update i think the permissioin got nuked. Hopefully i'll be able to backup from a few months ago. I'm going to try chkdsk this morning and see if it finds anything.
  3. I have a feeling what i did was lifted too much while twisting. I'm not sure why it glued itself to the cooler. I think i used artic silver, but not 100% sure.
  4. Normally asus takes a day to respond, but they just came back within an hour and said they will give me a 20% discount and it'll be $216 out the door. Since it looks like a cheap B550 board is going to run around 125-150 and the x570-e is going for more than what i paid for it now, and with the new ryzen coming out i doubt prices will go down, i think i'll take them up on it. We'll hopefully someone (including myself) will learn something from this.
  5. I pulled the wraith cooler off my asus x570-e to install a aio, and you guessed it.....cpu came off with it. I did give it some twist force when i was removing it like the instructions say, but it came out as one. Luckily only a few pins were barely tweaked, and i was able to realign them with a small screwdriver and used the retention plate to make sure they are aligned. i sent the board to asus (its only 6mo old) and they are saying its physicals damage and can not be repaired and needs to be replace and is not under warranty. I told them i followed the manufacturers instructions on removing the cpu cooler and the plastic was brittle, but they are saying its going to be $250+tax to replace it (i paid $299+tax for it). They said i can reject the quote and they will send it back. I asked for a discount on a replacement, we'll see. Does anyone know if i could source a new retention plate with the metal arm, if they just snap into place. I'm already in about $15 to ship the board to them, and not sure if they will charge me to ship it back if i reject the quote. I think i can get a lesser B450/B550 board i for around $150 so i'm a little conflicted.
  6. i didn't go crazy on tightening down the noctua cooler, maybe i should revisit it with the screwdriver.....or maybe just leave it.
  7. Looks like its a debug pin. Maybe i should go buy a lottery ticket. Any idea why my pcie port wasn't working?
  8. I believe you are correct. This is from a 6th gen data sheet (couldn't find this table for the 7th gen
  9. Thanks! Here's a different pinout. It looks like the one you highlighted in red say " PROC. TRIGIN" or "PROC. TRICIN" (cant tell if its a G or C)
  10. It looks like there should be 4 pins diagonally along that corner. Wouldn't that mean that its the black square in the diagram? I'm assuming that the grey squares are unused, but what are the black squares? Extreeeeeemmmlllllyyyyyy lucky if it continues to work. Its doing a parity rebuild right now, and speed wise its going as fast as my i5 7600k, if not a little faster. I'll see if it stays stable.
  11. I may have spoke too soon. I'm noticing that my cache drive and second parity drive that are plugged into an lsi card are missing. Makes me think that its dead. edit: an lsi pci card wasn't being recognized...i put the card in another pci slot, and it showed up. (fingers crossed)
  12. So i just threw it in my unraid server. It shows up in bios and looks like its working in unraid. I'll keep an eye on it, but it seems like that pin isn't used. (fingers crosed)
  13. So that pin that is bent down, is that black square on the diagram? edit: better picture for reference
  14. Thanks. I didn't catch that. So on the diagram i the top right is the damaged side?
  15. I dropped a 7700k right on the corner where the little alignment triangle sits. part of one pin is bent down. I've straightened the pcb as much as i feel comfortable. I'm looking at the kaby lake pinout and i'm not quite sure how to read it. Is it oriented looking from the IHS looking down, or if you were looking at it from the pin side? I believe that either way, the pinout shows its not being used (either gray or black). Anyone confirm?
