Aluminum or Steel Rivets, help please
ClockSoicy084 replied to ClockSoicy084's topic in Cases and Mods
By chance, do you know what is originally used in the original rivets of a case? I'm thinking it might be steel for the Nano S for it's made out of steel, but it's probably aluminum to cut down on costs.- 5 replies

As the title says guys and gals. I plan on taking apart a Define Nano S to paint it all white and rivet it back together. Aluminum or Steel Rivets?

Hello! About over a year ago a heatsink was pulled off my ram module as I was taking it out of its slot. Fast forward about a week before today and I rma'ed my ram set to Corsair. Silly me (and silly them as well) to accept the RMA when DDR3 isn't really widely available anymore. So hopefully they didn't recycle my sticks yet and they'll be heading back my way safe and sound. Now I want to reattach my heatspreader to my ram. Can I just use plain ol' Arctic Silver 5, or do I need to buy something like Arctic Silver thermal adhesive or some thermal pads instead.

I was hoping to upgrade with just the funds I get from me selling my old parts and old phones, but with inflated memory prices I might just do what I said I wasn't going to do and buy a z77 mitx motherboard. I did want to get 16gb of 3200 ram, but that's $180 right there. This is my pcpartpicker.com list. Perhaps I should wait for the very future to enjoy some fun major computer building.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm jumping platforms to support AMD, and at the same time to upgrade as well as downsizing to m-itx. I don't want to spend money on a m-itx board for an older platform. I'm planning on selling my i5-3570k, z77 mobo and ram in order to purchase a smaller case, itx case, and a b350 mobo with a 6 core ryzen cpu. I don't really need a 6 core cpu, but it's something I'd like.

As the title says, 1600 to save money, or is it really worth it to spend a little extra for 2600? I plan on upgrading from my current i5-3570k. According to passmark the i5 will beat the 1600 and 2600 in single threaded performance. The 2600x on the other hand will beat the i5 in single threaded performance, so that feels more like a true upgrade. I'm joining the Ryzen train to support AMD and to also transition to a m-itx form factor. There's no reason for getting an old itx mobo if I could even find one. Upgrade instead From what I understand it matters more with 1080p gaming. If I had money I would get a 1440p panel and this choice wouldn't matter as much because the gpu (my gtx 680) is the prevailing factor. This question also doesn't seem to matter too much because I don't play any modern AAA titles atm. If that's the case the 1600 would be a better choice, unless 2600 for more future proofing. Many many factors contribute to the overall outcome.

Am I weird for wanting the rgb stock cooler? Lol

I know my Steam password, but not my LTT password. Thanks though.

Thank you

What if I don't know my password, I don't have access to my old email, and I log onto the forums through my Steam account?

That is true, thanks for the advice! I currently have a Sabertooth Z77, with an i5-3570k and an Evga gtx 680 4gb. I'm planning on selling some old phones along with my mobo, cpu, and ram in order to downsize and upgrade my build. I'll go with a Ryzen 5 1600 (not 2600x to save some denaros), 8gb instead of 16gb of ram (to again save some denaros), and a Asus Rog B350-I itx mobo ti fit into the Define Nano S. If I do get a buyer for the 680 I may get an affordable Rx 570 or something (or just wait for gpu prices to go down before doing anything). Eventually I shall water cool the whole setup in the Nano S. I love technology, but the only downside is something better will come out seconds after you buy something. That's okay though, because newer better tech for the future!

The Define R5 was (estimates) released late 2014, and updated to R6 late 2017 so 3 years in between. Nano S about late 2016, so 3 years means 2019. That's my reasoning I also really want a rework to it, because I plan on doing an mitx build soon. I don't want to build in it and then find out that a rework is done months later lol.

How much radiator do you need?
ClockSoicy084 replied to WhyAlwaysMe's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Shouldn't you stress test for an hour at least for the temps to "equalize/ stabilize"?
