    Hey guys,
This is the first build that I have done a build log for. I have done quite a few builds in the past but I felt as if this one deserved a log. My inspiration for this build came from my love of watercooling and cable sleeving.

This was my second rig that I have custom water cooled and my first power supply that I have sleeved. I started planning for this build in March and started ordering parts in April. I put the last finishing touches on the build on June 25th. This originated as a Haswell build but turned into a 2011/X79 build very quickly.
I do plan on taking this to Quakecon and I will say now that it weighs 80lb completely finished.
    Time for pics!!

Just for the TL;DR guys, I will start with some finished pictures, and then continue with the ‘build log’ pics.

First box of goodies arrives! Followed by more..

After reading about these fans for years, I finally bought some.. (just to have them release a new fan this month)

Testing out a fan and LED strip on a 9v battery.

Shipment from Lutro0 Customs came in:

About to make my 24 pin extension.

    My toolbox after a while..

    First set of parts bought:

    Tearing down the PSU.

    Oh no, double wires!

    All sleeved up.

I can’t leave these two alone for a second..

    More parts!

Running the system on air to check everything.. Check out that clearance.

Temporary case until I had the 900D..

    Finally got my 900D!

All the parts for mine and a friend’s build.

    Assembling the rig:

My cat’s perch during the build:

    About ready to tear down:

    Motherboard stripped of heatsinks/fan:

    Motherboard blocks installed:

Allen head screws I bought for the board:

7870s stripped of stock fan/heatsink and waterblocked up:

    All waterblocks installed..

Bottom 480mm UT60 and top 360mm UT60 rads mounted with gentle typhoons:

Testing fans out at 5v/7v/12v for noise levels:

Stock 900D front setup compared to now w/ 480 UT60 installed + provision for drain valve:

Making the distilled water + Mayhem dye mix:

Running some tubes.  Too many angles!

Ready to fill.. or so we thought.

    All going well..

Until I saw this.. And I don’t know how I caught it mid-picture. This must have been the instant it started.

Turns out that the o-rings I received with my FC-Bridge from EK were defective. And no, I did not mix them up with the o-rings that came with the video card blocks. I talked back and forth with EK and did not want to wait for replacements to be shipped so I sourced my own. The green matches absolutely nothing but at least no leaks!!

After leak issue fixed, real leak testing begins.. and we’re all good!

    Drain Valve added.

    Some tubing runs..

Some LEDs added, which cannot be seen with side panel on, only the light they give off. I also wired the LED strips into a 12v remote to be able to control them.

Cable management in process.. 840 Pro mounted in top left, under the pcb that powers the fans at 5v.

    Drives before Raid..

    After Raid 5 configured..

Getting ready to cut, extend, re-crimp, and sleeve the 12v remote wires..

    How she sits now:

    Thanks for checking it out!
More to come in the following posts!

kreotis reacted to Eric1024 in Asus' ROG RAIDR PCIe SSD
Sorry but there's a lot of misinformation here. Each device connected to a SATA 3 port gets a dedicated 6Gb/s "pipe" if you will, so two drives in raid 0 on SATA 3 ports gets you an aggregate theoretical bandwidth of 12Gb/s. People have achieved over 1GB/s on a 2 ssd raid 0 array plenty of times.

Also, 6Gb/s is signaling rate, not actual device bandwidth. The SATA interface uses 8b/10b encoding, meaning you only get 8/10 of the actual signaling rate as usable bandwidth, or 4.8Gb/s (which, when devided by 8 is .6GB/s or 600MB/s, not .75GB/s as you stated) If you don't believe me, read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8b/10b_encoding and note that serial ATA is listed under technologies that use 8b/10b encoding.

So in reality, the maximum bandwidth of two SSDs in raid 0, both connected to SATA 3 ports, is 9.6Gb/s, 1200MB/s, or 1.2GB/s. Granted there is still a bit of overhead that is involved in sending SATA commands which will cause you a slight loss of of usable bandwidth, but the usable bandwidth will still be over 1GB/s.

This is a misconception. PCIe only warrants you more bandwidth and slightly less latency, but ultimately it depends on the implementation. Most PCIe SSDs, (including the raidr) simply use a PCIe sata raid controller that then connects to several ssd controllers, which basically amounts to several sata SSDs in raid 0 connected to a hardware raid controller. This is no different whatsoever than chipset raid, since each ssd controller on the card is still limited to a sata 3 connection to the raid card.

The *only* advantage to this type of implementation is that it allows a drive to have more than 2 SSDs in raid 0, but the more controllers you have on there, the greater chance that one of them fails and kills your entire drive.

The better alternative is a custom controller that interfaces directly between the flash and the PCIe bus, however these are few and far between and are almost always exorbitantly priced, and they tend to be aimed at the enterprise market.

This is very true. However. The ROG RADR, the device in question does not come even close to those speeds. (it has been reviewed by a few sites:
    http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4263/asus-raidr-express-240gb-pci-express-ssd-review-is-this-the-future
    http://chinese.vr-zone.com/62325/asus-pcie-ssd-rog-raidr-express-240gb-hand-on-review-05072013/ )

The raidr is honestly an overpriced, underperforming, and undersized device that I see no reason for anyone to buy unless they want to waste money.

The key word here is capable. Yes, the PCIe 3.0 16x bus is capable of 160Gb/s bidirectional bandwidth (well a bit less when you factor in 128b/130b encoding that PCIe 3.0 uses), but is there any drive that can leverage that? Nope. And the price of any drive that gets anywhere near that will be well over 10,000$

It wont SLI because its a completely different card in every aspect except for the fact that the "core" is the same die. Its like trying to pair an i7 with a Xeon for a dual CPU system.

The 1100T is no slouch. Once clocked to 4 Ghz it starts becoming an animal and farther than that it just devours everything you throw at it. Remember that Phenom II's have a lot more IPC than FX processors its just that the newer ones are clocked higher to make up for it. Personally I would just stick with your current proc and grab a new beefy graphics card instead (but that's just me).

kreotis reacted to Opsilon in Overclocked i7 3770k vs overclocked i7 4770k?
Would like to see that result mate because in almost every test i saw, once you OC the 4770k it beats the 3770k, TTL even did a cinebench 4.6 ghz Haswell and a 4.8 ivy bridge and ivy lost by 0.5 points, that is a huge margin in cinebench test he did...

dude don't go rushing already, a lot of people here understand that heat is a problem, but understand that the 4770k is same as 3770k but up to 10% extra performance.
The new chipset finally gives intel all sata 3 ports instead of just 2 of the intel controller, there is more to a CPU than overclocking... the platform in general is improved, would not suggest to go to the old stuff, since it offers less
